I just finished first Marathon today, I finished in 6 hours which is slow, but it was one of the most difficult thing that I have ever done. 3 hours and 34 minutes is awesome. @@Swiftfilmsuk You're too kind! You should be extremely proud! I did have a question however - when watching your Vlog. Did you buy any specific running shoe during your journey? or did you use the one you had since the very beginning? I have heard so many things from so many people, but as you ran your first one, what are your thoughts?
@Swiftfilmsuk
@Swiftfilmsuk 3 жыл бұрын
@@gianmanp Good question! During marathon training I bought a pair of On cloud (cloud racers I think?). However, these were quite heavy. Three weeks before the marathon I went against everything that I had read and bought a new pair of running shoes - the Nike 4% vaporfly. These were so much lighter and felt really fast. No idea if this was a silly move or not, but the Nike shoes did feel like they made a big difference. Very expensive though!

The one marathon I did I set out w/ a piece of paper where I should be at each mile at a 10min/mile pace. I focused on keeping that pace, and not getting an adrenaline drop, and it worked. The 20 mile sign, where bonking occurs, was at a cemetery, which I thought ironic.

It reassures me that everyone who runs a marathon for the first time has a really enthusiastic phase, then a sad phase, the a long run to shore up confidence, and then does great. I ran my first marathon a little over two months ago and I had done very little training, only 4 runs over 10 miles, 2 tens, a 13.1, and a 20. I was prepared enough, though, and I crossed the finish line, which was the only important thing in my head at that point. Great work man, keep on running.

That was epic, man. You giving yourself those positive affirmations, dedicating those miles to your family, and then those last couple hundred yards. I was rooting for you all throughout. Awesome accomplishment, and as a short film it was really relatable and well documented. Also, 3:34 in your first marathon after 4 months of training is impressive! I'm going to be in the 2022 NYC marathon and this video was inspirational!

I know you released this a few years ago, but I’m set to run my very first marathon in a little under 2 weeks. This is one year in the making for me and just like you I’m aiming for a sub 3:30. I am very fortunate to watch your vlog. I am going to run my first marathon in Tokyo next 3 weeks. I watched many successful stories but never watch like yours. Even though I am a slow runner. But I definitely will learn from you not skip any gels and hydrate well as planned. Thank you.

Very best of luck to you in Tokyo! Yes, the biggest takeaway from my first marathon was that you will reach a point where it’s very difficult to consume gels and take on more water, but it’s so important that you do! I hope it goes really well for you! 👍

I love how honest you were about how training doesn’t always go to plan. Sometimes we get sick or injured and we can just do the best we can to get out there. I’m training for my first marathon right now and I frequently come back to your video to give me motivation. Congratulations!

Oh yes, training schedules are notoriously difficult to stick to! When I got a sickness bug five weeks before my first marathon, I thought that was the end of my chances of completing the marathon. But you just have do your best and not beat yourself up if it doesn’t go to plan. Thank you so much for your kind comment! That means a lot and I wish you the very best of luck with your marathon training and the day itself 👍

@@Swiftfilmsuk thank you so much! My marathon is just under 7 weeks out now, and I find myself here again for motivation. The interesting thing is that I know from training that my body can do it, but the mental battle is completely uphill. Did you find in your experience that running it/crossing the finish line was emotional? Because I anticipate crying hahaha
@Swiftfilmsuk
@Swiftfilmsuk 2 жыл бұрын
@@kaylabelle5427 Definitely! The thought of crossing the finish line would get me emotional many weeks before the marathon. I also used that feeling as inspiration when I didn't want to do the training. Once you have crossed that finish line though, you will forever be a marathon runner! At that point you can let all your emotions come flooding out. Not long to go for you now. Very best of luck and do let me now how you get on 👍

That’s an amazing time for a first marathon! I’m 8 months into running myself and ran 2 marathons so far, one was 4:15, the second 3:59, the first one was a sh!tshow after mile 13 because I went out way too fast, hit the wall full force. the second one was cramps-galore because I messed my taper up (walked way too much, did not fuel properly the days before the race) and had a non-running related injury that almost knocked me out at mile 16. So overall, I’m checking all beginners mistakes there are. lol contrary to me, you’re doing amazing , seriously, hats off!!
