I knew I wanted a motorcycle, and have no regrets making this my first one. For just over two grand, this thing looks great and is a blast to drive.

Beautiful bike! I honestly think that the Ninja 250 may well be one of the most beautiful bikes ever made. I used to ride motorcycles many years ago and over time owned 4 of them from a 175 cc Bridgestone thru a 600cc BMW touring bike that I rode across country. The bike I most enjoyed riding was a 250 cc Kawasaki 2 stroke I bought used and rode for a year in New Mexico. That bike's weak point was warm starts as it tended to flood very easily. As far as your cold start problem you may find it's not that big of a thing because riding in cold weather gets tired pretty quickly for most folks. I'll never forget a Thanksgiving Day ride I did on my Kawasaki while living in New Mexico. It was about 40F and I was wearing a winter coat, some gloves, and Levis. Managed to get lost on some backcountry roads and a planned 1/2 hr ride turned into a 1 1/2 hr ordeal! By the time I got back to my house I'd lost all feeling in both legs and literally couldn't stop the bike without tipping over. Finally drove to a friend's house and circled around beeping the horn until he came out and caught the bike so I could get off. He then carried me into the house to warm up and when the feeling came back to my knees I literally howled in pain!!!!! So if you plan on any cold weather rides you might want to get some warm, windproof, riding gear.

250 sports bikes are the best bikes you can ever have - get any Japanese 250 sportbike and you will truly know what "fun and dangerous" means. They rev high, loud, super light, and fast - yet so controllable, and tamed, and when in need, brutally fast. Thy are NOT beginner bikes - you need more skills and experiences to ride 250 than 600. In 600 or above, you will NEVER fully utilize its upper range of power unless you are on a closed-track (Not even on a empty highways at 3AM). But in 250, you will be at its 70~90% of power band range pretty much all he time - with 10~14+k RPM range. There is reason why MotoGP 250 was brutally competitive - and just as big as 5/99ers.

The behavior of having to turn the idle up and then back down again on cold starts is not normal the "choke" (it's actually an enrichment circuit) should increase the idle for you. With how few miles are on there the bike could almost certainly benefit from having the carburetors cleaned.
@defaultdaniel3 жыл бұрын
After putting some b12 chemtool in the tank, running it hard, changing plugs, basic maintenance, etc., its been running much better. When its above 45 degrees, it fires right up without choke or any adjustments. I would only have to gently turn the idle knob when very cold.

I'm thinking about getting a 2009 Ninja 250R, but it has a carburetor engine. One of my cycle gurus told me to stay away from carberator engines, and to get a fuel injection bike instead. What do you all think? There seems to be a big debate about them.

@@vwjet357 i actually bought one about four months ago, and so far it hasn't given me any problems, thank God. @@vwjet357 Dont be a lazy goof. Carbs are easy to figure out and they give far better throttle response.
@vwjet3572 жыл бұрын
@@fredrickneitzche6748 I can do carbs, again, it’s easier not to have to do them at all. Or spend the time or money. The time spent doing the carbs myself instead of my other projects is actually pretty costly. My time costs more than paying a shop to do the labor in fact. The logic remains the same. There’s nothing wrong with carbs, I still have my 250. I’m just being honest about the difference and troubles. It IS a hassle to deal with an issue that’s avoidable on the first place. 250r is still a great beginner bike. I’d still recommend fuel injection, but I live in WA and the weather is finicky. It’s not about laziness, it’s about cost and practicality, avoiding problems before they start, etc. it’s proper coordination and planning which is the opposite of laziness.
