I have only found your youtube channel a month ago and have been fascinated by your creativity!! After just warching this program, I learned a lot since I am interested in trying sculpting out. I started painting about a yr and a half ago and really love it! Like you, I have a hard times letting my pcs go. They ARE trophies. I was thinking maybe you might add a class for beginning sculptures with smaller/ less complicated pcs that wouldn;t frustrate beginners too much. Lastly, the comment about your voice IGNORE. Your calm demeanor is great...one of the reasons I love to watch and listen. Keep up the great work. Thank you again

I would love a "trying to work with cheap clay" like from walmart or wish or something
@mercedesmarton3768
@mercedesmarton3768 5 жыл бұрын
Walmart has only Sculpey kid clay and no tools (at least not in the store itself). The Wish clay is OK, a bit too soft for my liking, but what I do is roll it out med thick and put it between two sheet of paper. Let it set for a while to get the extra oil out of it. If you want to make Kawaii charms or mini food etc. you need a big color palette, but if you want to make sculptures like him, I would use single color clay and paint it when it's done. Much more cost effective. Also you can get 40-50 % off coupons on the craft store apps ( Michael's, JoAnn and Hobby Lobby). Price wise Hobby Lobby is your best bet. Also Michael's have a cheap line of clay for about 1.99$ if I remember correctly (at least here in Mid-West). They are quite hard and needs lots of conditioning to make it usable. (I guess combining with the Wish clay would even it out ☺)

Great Q and A….concise and to the point. I heard that polymer clay gets stronger and more fully cured with the additional baking, that’s why you can sculpt and bake in stages and layers. I am guessing that not everyone pays attention to the 20 minute baking time per 1/4” thickness, most people just see that time and use it but if your clay is thicker than 1/4” you should bake longer.

Love your work! So inspiring! A tip I want to share: to create wrinkle lines or hair lines in a smoother way or effect, I use a piece of thin plastic (like the one the laundries use for your clothes) and put it on top of the face or hair area, then in make the wrinkles marks on top of it. This helps to prevent to tear or scrape the clay. When you remove the plastic you will see it generates smoother lines. Thank you for sharing your talent!

One thing you have probably already learned with your graphic arts background --- you can't make everybody happy. There will always be the few who whine about some minuscule little detail others don't notice, and never with the intent of being helpful. They just want to pick (This is where the insurable anal-retentives live). Fortunately, your stats prove you are already inspiring and entertaining a LOT of people in the short time you've been on here, so just keep on keeping on -- you're very talented, witty and can work magic with a camera and an Ott light. Best of luck, and please hurry with more videos.

Michigan accent! I grew up in Warren but moved to Tennessee 20 years ago. People either love or hate my accent here. Question on baking: What do you bake on? I know if my clay is baked on a glazed ceramic tile then the clay touching the tile comes out glossy. Since many of your pieces are large I suppose you must lay them on their side to fit into your toaster oven.

About the time lapse going too fast, if you consider that youtube promotes videos that are longer watch time, it can help your channel to slow them down a bit and make them a bit longer. Those viewers not specifically interested in details, can speed them up if they want. If not so speedy time lapses, we have more frames to see what you are actually doing. I know this video is from 5 yrs ago, 😉 , but I just found your channel and I've just started sculpting, from scratch. Thank you for all the amazing work you put into all sculptures and videos! 🤩Love it!

Very useful videos. Don't change what you are doing. You are obviously doing something right, or we wouldn't be here. The cameras and lighting comments, trash bin them. I've had no problems with them, and they are fine as is. Keep your videos time lapsed, or slow them further; whatever works for you because I'll watch them anyway. These are supremely useful to noobs like me, and fun to watch.

I'm a new subscriber, I subscribed about 3-4 days ago ... I actually prefer longer videos 😊 I love working alongside a voice an it helps to not have to stop every 5-15 minutes in the middle of a project an pick out a different video ... Yes autoplay helps BUT what's next on autoplay doesn't always have ANYTHING to do with what i want to watch or doesn't always match the mood I'm in ... And YES I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND NOT WANTING TO SCULPT IN PURE SILENCE, I HATE silent work and work where I'm alone isn't ever my favorite .... Keep up the good work soooo many people wanna see more ... I can't wait to see your new upcoming content

Plus the first vid I saw was the awesome duck/fish/alien and it was just amazing LOVE the creativity and I LOVE LOVE LOVE that some materials you use aren't "professional" ALL THE TIME because some people aren't able to get ALLLL of the basics and it's great to have tutorials and videos showing people that you DON'T necessarily HAVE TO HAVE EVERYTHING that everyone else does an show more alternatives that STILL gets the job done so more people can see that sculpting isn't always about the tools you have or the best techniques to use it's about creativity, fun and imagination and nobody should ever think " I'm not good enough to sculpt because i don't have the right tools or techniques or talent" because ypu don't NEED ANYYY OF THAT ... ALL ANYONE WILL EVER NEED TO SCULPT IS AN IMAGINATION

Yes please slow down a little. I enjoyed sculpture in high school and in college as well haven't in quite some time your videos inspired me to start back up again. the only reason I asked to slow that video down a little bit is because some of the techniques I learned many many years ago I have forgotten and need a refresher. The way you explain things in the video is perfect. Unfortunately the speed is so fast the explanation is lost. I find myself watching the video many times just to pick up a little extra of a few second clip.

You said you use super sculpey as your goto clay. I have seen many of your other videos and you have used a couple of other types. Could you discuss in a video segment which clays you use and for what purpose. For instance, you use a white clay sometimes in place of tin foil and you use another clay for it’s bending property. Thank you. I really love your method of teaching; you make it seem simple and easy to do. We shall see.

I love your channel, and this was a very informative Q&A. Personally I use a Chrome Extension called Video Speed Controller and watch most videos at faster speed. Also, one can slow down below 1x. It's very easy to bounce between speeds w/keyboard shortcuts, much better than YT's built-in speed controls. Also can go in tenth increments, e.g. 1.2x. If you slow your time-lapses for longer videos, you can mention to your audience to use the Speed Controls as desired. Also, I'd like to hear more about your drawing class experience and your college experience, since I have to help my kids decide on how best to grow as artists. Finally, since I'm thinking about my daughter's upcoming 8-year old party, I was wondering if you've ever thought about offering ready-made party packages, where someone can order all the supplies needed to make a sculpture that you guide them through? You could include a follow-along DVD or even do a private live-stream for the party.

Hey man. You probably get lots of messages all the time but just wanted to say thanks. I have never thought about any kind of sculpting. I enjoy drawing but get sick of it quickly. I am doing my first sculpture ever for my 9 month daughter a Humpty Dumpty. I am going off a cartoon reference image but had adjusted it a lot like a distressed jacket with stitching and patches seems opening with dovetail at back, even creases in the material. 7 hours so far. Absolutely love it thought. Thanks again for your guidance and videos bro 🔥👍🏻 Belts with buckle working, on boots next then the face. Only problem I’m having is smoothing the egg head properly, thinking of maybe a staff for him. My pasta machine is coming today and and the same clay you use, wanted to try it out. Terrified of baking though Incase I ruin it 😂

I realize I'm commenting on a few months old video...but I'm just curious.... You discuss paint a bit in this vid, which is part of why I wanted to watch. I know that you like using the Folk Art and Americana, which are great paints for crafting. Just curious to know if you have ever checked out, or tried using any of the Citadel paint line, meant for models and figures and such. The reason I ask is because they have a whole textured line that I think would add some really nice dimension and texture to some spots in your amazing projects. As far as the subject figures, themselves...some of these paints are great for clothing/fur/skin...but particularly if you do something that has an environmental base...the textured paints can really add some life to those. I know that since you're working with polymer clay, most of your texturizing comes from the sculpting itself...but maybe you could try some of the paints out and see if you enjoy them, sometime. Not that everything you're doing isn't already awesome...it definitely is...keep up the great work!

You're destined for greatness on KZbin. I'm starting a new channel and I'm wondering if you did anything to promote yours or did you just let people find you? Best of luck. I look forward to seeing your future vids.

I’m New to polymer clay and I see artists assembling multiple pieces, let’s say to attach body parts or tree limbs, my question is. To you Re-bake your entire piece as you make it? Example I’ve sculpted and baked a torso, now I want to sculpt arms or clothing, do I sculpt the fresh clay on the baked piece, then re-bake for the new clay? Can I bake a sculpt several times as I add to it?

Love this video. Just watching. I don't watch long videos but I would watch your longer videos because some parts I want to see you go through too fast. I have sculpted in paper clay. Will try more with polymer clay. Tfs

I do not think you sound bored recording. Longer videos would be difficult to watch in some parts. You just have to do what you think works. You are doing great and I see the improvement in your videos and style.

Great job on your first q&a! I love watching your videos. It inspires me to get back into sculpting. My favorite was the owl and rocket...so creative with the base and the colors were beautiful. Can't wait to see more. :)
