I had been enjoying UV resin, however developed an allergic reaction to it. If anyone is interested in an alternative, Sophie & Toffee has a really nice glaze, it's called "Sophie & Toffee Sealer Super Gloss". I've found that to give the most beautiful, consistent results, since stepping away from UV resin. I'd love to hear about your experiences with this glaze, as well if anyone else has tried it. I also love how it's not as costly, compared to UV resin.

Very useful to know! However, I would say that the UV resin will also discolour over time if it's left in bright light or sunlight. Some of the more expensive crystal UV resins are more slowly affected, but it's worth knowing. I think it just isn't cured fully. Because it relies on UV to cure it can take a lot longer if the layer is too thick (and it doesn't always look like it's that thick). I'd suggest leaving any that are still a bit tacky to cure a bit longer and to work with multiple thin layers rather than a single layer. Hope this helps!

Thank you for this review. Does the UV Resin have to be used with a mask? I’m not sure if I’m getting it mixed up. There was some kind of Resin where people say where a mask it’s dangerous if you don’t. The UV Resin looks so shiny like glass.
@saintnikz6 ай бұрын
Yes. You should wear a respirator (not a surgical mask like people wear for covid), goggles for eye protection, and gloves. Make sure you are using in a very well ventilated area (open windows AND a fan) and understand that even doing all that, you are taking a risk. We do not yet know the long term effects of UV resin, but we do know it is toxic in its liquid form pre-curing. That is a fact. It can become an allergy for individuals very quickly, and once you're allergic, you can't use it anymore. And that is not just if it touches skin; you can develop an allergy to it from breathing the fumes. Also, even if it doesn't smell to you, the fumes are still dangerous. There are companies that will claim non-toxic and no VOCs (volatile organic compounds) but they are lying and can get away with that as resin is not regulated well. Just be sure to be informed in your decision and please don't apply UV resin the way it is shown here; you *need* gloves. Resin on skin will cause irritation and can lead to eczema. It is hard to find solid, evidence-based information on resin because it hasn't been studied much, but please look into it if you are considering using it especially in a home you share with others or for big objects. I've done my own research, but I like to always double check info I get from people on the internet and encourage others to do so too! 😊

@creativerachy Жыл бұрын
All the products are completely fine of my brushes! I always wash them off under water or wipe them dry with some paper towel, depending on the product. Generally I wear gloves when I have large batches of resin or I'm glazing a lot of charms, however they are very difficult to wear when filming and I end up getting resin on my camera (which is not ideal!). I am alway very careful when using UV resin without gloves by making sure I'm not brushing it anywhere near my fingers. I have never had a reaction because I make sure I don't touch it with my bare skin.

I tried it once for glazing and it was awful. Not the epoxy resin itself, but the drips it created from hanging. I had to sit by the charm all day so I wouldn’t recommend it!

I used to use mod podge back in middle school (over 10 years ago now) and live in a fairly humid environment and much like clear nail polish it gets sticky after awhile. Definitely don't recommend it if you live somewhere humid. Theyre practically glued into the box I keep them in now and theyre very white and cloudy.

What would you recommend for a mat or satin glazed please? I like the idea of resin but you can only get that as a gloss can't you?

I have been trying to use UV resin and I find it such a pain to spread and makes a mess so easy and popping bubbles not easy. My hands shake so that might be why it’s messy but and yeah it does pull away from edges a lot for me. ☹️
