Queen is a British rock group created in 1971 consisting of: Freddie Mercury - lead vocals and piano Brian May - lead guitar and vocals John Deacon - bass guitar Roger Taylor - Drummer and vocals Queen produced 15 studio albums and numerous gold and platinum singles. They were one of, if the most, influential groups in the 20th century. Not only were all 4 members extremely talented musicians, all 4 members composed the songs that they performed and each of the 4 members wrote hit singles (that's something no other group can claim). Queen's stage concerts were amazing. Long before anyone else thought of it, Queen used lights, smoke, and sound effects to enhance their concerts from merely a show to a performance. Freddie Mercury is considered by most as the best frontman in rock history and his control of the audience is legendary. Their 20-minute performance at the legendary Live Aid concert in 1985 is considered the greatest live performance in rock history (yes, there is a youtube video of Queen's Live Aid performance). You need to remember that Queen was performing live without any of the enhancements that the performer use today like autotune. They performed just with their talent. Most of us consider the Queen live version of their music even better than their studio version. There are 100's of amazing Queen songs. Their catalog consist of not just classical rock, but hard rock, rockabilly, jazz, disco, funk, blues, gospel, ballads, opera, show tunes, thrash metal, folk-rock, alternative rock, r & b, glam rock, etc. They could perform anything and Freddie could sing anything with passion. Welcome to the world of Queen.

Loving your reaction, but Number 1 rule: NEVER pause during a Brian May guitar solo. Never ever! But it’s your first time so you’re forgiven. ☺️ This song is a masterpiece, written in 5 parts. Intro, ballad, operatic section, hard rock and reflective coda. It is still one of the most well known songs ever, 45 years after its release. You only have to watch the crowd at a Green Day concert in 2017 singing this song when it came on the loudspeakers before the concert. 60,000 people who weren’t even born yet when this song was written, but they all know every word. It’s hard to believe you’ve never seen it, but I’m realising that there are actually people still around who haven’t. Thank you 🙏 for reacting to it. It cannot be allowed to be forgotten.

Amazing fact about Queens' lead guitarist Brian May. He was actually working on getting his Ph.D in astrophysics when Queen was formed. Music meant so much to him so he put his doctorate on the back burner. After Freddie Mercury died, Queen disbanded. Even while still part of the group Brian and his father designed and built a new kind of guitar. Brian's IQ has been measured in the 160's. That's even beyond Big Bang Theory smart. So he was a real genius on top of being a musical genius. after Queen disbanded, Brian went back to working toward his doctorate. He finally got it in 2006 or 7. He's now Dr. Brian May Ph.D. He's also written about 6 books on the subject of astrophysics. He's even worked with NASA periodically.

"Bohemian Rhapsody" is the most streamed song of 20th century, recenlty became the only classic rock song to be certified Diamond by RIAA, also the oldest song to do so and the only song by a british band to do so. The video is considered to be the first music video in history (1975), and it's the oldest music video on youtube to get 1 billion views. The song is considered by many the best rock song ever. Queen is a legendary British rock band, they are in Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, have a star on Hollywood Walk of Fame and the only band ever to have all four members in Songwriters Hall of Fame (all four wrote at least one №1 hit). "Bohemian Rhapsody" topped the charts 3 times - in 1975 (after its release), in 1992 and in 2018.

@@billlindley2735 Freddie Mercury's long-time partner said that he was told BY FREDDIE MERCURY that this is what the song was about. I think that is pretty authoritative. The first part is talking about killing his straight persona and not wanting to make his mother sad, the operatic part is going to gay clubs, bars, etc. and how exciting/scary it was, and the final rock part is coming to terms with being gay and living proud ("so you think you can stone me and spit in my eye.")

Especially since I’ve seen an interview with an old school friend or former band mate - can’t recall which - but according to them, Freddie started writing part of this song (Mama, just killed a man ...) before he joined Brian and Roger in Smile (to later be named Queen), met Mary Austin and perhaps realized he was bisexual/gay. This guy (I wish I could recall his name) spoke about it as Freddie’s “Cowboy song.” Freddie was such a private person and he never talked about the meaning of his songs - not even with the the rest of Queen. There may be some meaning behind it, but he also made up jibberish words for songs (Mustafa for the Jazz album) and I think that enigmatic part of Freddie is why people find him so fascinating 30 years after he died - that plus the talent, of course. As Sigmund Freud is quoted as having said, “Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.” There doesn’t have to be a meaning behind every song lyric - just enjoy the music. (My other pet peeve is people ascribing meaning to all Queen songs as being about Freddie when he just sang them and they were written by the other band members.)

Definitely agree with you. I also hate when folks are so sure about what it means. Maybe he just wanted to write a tragic opera, nothing about himself. Oops..did I just try telling what it was about...lol

You are so right because Freddie had been writing this song for years. And Freddie said in an interview it was 3 songs he put together.

I've watched a number of reactors see this for the first time, your reaction is very much typical - amazement. Imagine if you will that it is just before Christmas 1975 and I am watching Top of the Pops (a very popular music programme of the time) with friends when this song came on. We were gobsmacked, we couldn't pause it or listen again, just sit there entranced then go and buy it next day so that we could hear it again. I still have my original 7 inch vinyl single. Enjoy Queen, so many great songs.

Haha thanks Dave i love the imagery of how you explained that

You DON'T have to pause so often, you know, right? BTW, there's a movie about the band by the same name as this song. They are legendary! 🤗👍

I got the Night at the Opera LP when I was 11 and listened to this song over and over in my little record player. I love seeing people experience it for the first time. I'm teaching it to my grandson now, who is 11. I told him knowing Bohemian Rhapsody is a necessary life skill.

And that’s really what a musical Rhapsody is, a piece of music of indeterminate length and with no formal structure, comprised of a number of different musical ideas. A Rhapsody is all about dynamics: light and shade, high and low, loud and soft, happy and sad… It’s a story, a journey and usually quite the musical ride.

Freddie never explained what the lyrics were about, even to the band members, that was usual practice if you watch their interviews. Roger at one point said he thought it was obvious. He's never explained what he meant by that. With that said I find it appalling how casually Freddie's private life is bandied about. He would hate it, it's exactly what the press did to him and the rest of Queen through-out the years.

I just love that I have another Queen Reactor. I get to play my Queen Reactor drinking game. You have to drink whenever one of the following gets said. 1. WTF happened there, or something similar (when the genre suddenly changes). 2. That voice (Freddie) is amazing. 3. That guitar player (Brian) is awesome. 4. How big is that crowd (just for Live performances). 5. I've heard that somewhere. 6. how does the drummer (Roger) sing that high. 7. anytime john deacon is mentioned. and for a double shot (I did not know Queen wrote that). It is a great way to get really drunk on your own without feeling bad about it.

This was the first ever rock opera, unleashed on acompletely unsuspecting public in the seventies. Longer than anything before, mesmerising, this is an experience, not just a song. He never actually killed anybody, left the meaning up to people's imaginations. All 4 band members finished their uni degrees and had careers outside of music.
