Having someone stop to talk about the Rolleiflex is a major part of the Rolleiflex experience. Almost always when I'm out and about with mine, someone will ask about it, but seldom with other cameras.

Get a camera strap and one can lower your perspective even more when needed. I remember shooting my Mamiya TLR cameras 30 years ago on vacation (I used it for part time portrait work) and no one at that time was shooting TLR on the street or for landscapes. I figured each picture cost me 1 dollar back than. After scanning thousands of pictures this past winter I don't miss film.

Duuuuuuude!!! I can't believe you thrifted that for $30 when I watched the video when you found that! That camera is pristine and with the hood too! I bought a Rolleiflex Automat earlier this year and it was a good price but definitely not for $30. You're always finding those gems at literally a steal! Rolleiflex is such a fun camera. Keep using it!

I owned and used one of those in 1972-74 while working for wedding photographer / teacher Monte Zucker except mine was equipped with an eye level pentaprism which cost nearly as much as the camera. Fortunately I got a good deal because Rolleiflex was one of Monte’s sponsors. The advantage of using the twin-lens reflex when using flash was being able to see if a person in the photo blinked. The f/2.8 speed of the lens allowed shooting portraits by the light of north facing windows, which was part of Monte’s “Old Master” style for shooting weddings back in the day.

Although this camera has excellent build quality, if you drop it, it will be a goner, the chimney and lens board are weak. Always wear a strap and never throw it in your bag before you get the lens board all the way in (infinity), a small bump will put it out of alignment and may jam the mechanism. Great find!
