Girl, don't ever feel bad for prioritizing your safety! It's an important and real issue that needs to be talked about. People who are socialized as women need to be reminded that they aren't responsible for other people's feelings or expectations. They need to be empowered to take control of their own comfort and safety. Trust your gut! If something feels wrong, it probably is. ❤
@LOUISE__97 Жыл бұрын
Yep. We're taught from a young age that asserting our boundaries makes us a "bitch". How many women have gotten into a dangerous situation just because they didn't want to a seem mean? I feel like we've all been in positions where we've prioritized people's perception of us over our own gut feelings/safety!

Aww, I feel you with crying on holiday. Sometimes it's just not how you expected. I went to a wedding in Morocco and was the only English speaker there. Everyone was so welcoming and included me in everything but not being able to understand what anyone was saying made me want to burst into tears on the first night. I felt much better a couple of days into the trip, seems like you did too 💖

Having a solo trip to another country was brave. Enjoyed you walking the streets and explaining how things made you feel. That's a great tip saying you don't speak a language to someone who makes you feel uncomfortable. Excellent tip. I especially enjoyed the open areas and the view from the plane. Thank you!😊😊

Im sorry you got sad about traveling alone for a moment. I traveled a lot alone when I was your age and what I liked the most was to do whatever I like, spend hours in a museum, going into to little shops and to walk for hours listen to my favorite song pretending that was the king of the world LOL. Now 10 years latter with a husband and a child I don’t know when I will be able to experience that again, so enjoy!!!

Ty for being so honest about how you were feeling. I also get moody right before my period & gotta cry it out lol. I can also relate to seeing ppl together & feeling so lonely, especially in a beautiful place you wish you could share the moment. I think you did great & it was so cute knowing the awkward moments you experienced but just pushing thru it 😅 your Spanish pronunciation is also very good! The green parrot thing was funny bc they are also invasive here in San Diego, they are sooo loud 😂 also really loved the vintage film filter that you used!

I’m so glad you talked honestly about your experience as a solo traveler, especially as a young female. Solo travel always seems like such a fun and independent thing to do (and it totally can be!) but it can be really lonely and sometimes not very fun. Always prioritize your safety. Wholeheartedly agree that sometimes being rude (or at least not polite like girls and women are taught that they always should be) will keep you safer!

Traveling solo as a woman is an adventure for sure. It can be equal parts scary, empowering and restorative. I also love finding nature, seeing animals and learning the local natural history wherever I go (biology and archaeology part of my background). I do love to explore a bit of the history, food and culture, too. It was fun to see your little adventure. Good on ya for going and sharing it. About the creeper dudes: OMG, they are everywhere. I'm sorry you had to deal with that. I'm a bit older than you, and I will say as I've gotten older, I get approached way less by them, which is a blessing. However, it's never zero. So you do have to keep your wits about you. I'm glad you did keep yours and that you were able to get away from them and stay safe. I'm also glad you're back, so I can continue to follow your adventures in zoology. Best wishes and take care of yourself always, especially when life and school have you stressed out. Thanks.

I loved this Vlog so much! Now I want to go to Spain! 🎉 Definitely be safe on your travels! I love talking to and helping people - but when I went to Paris my friend was constantly telling me not to talk to people because they didn’t realized she was French Canadian (since I am American and was talking) and she could understand them. You never know what people’s intentions are especially if it’s obviously you’re a tourist! 💕

I’ve been on two solo trips and blending in is key! I was in London partly for one of my trips and can relate in how a busy city like that can feel unsafe, I think everywhere you go you will find creeps in tourist spots or downtown areas. Growing up in California I’m just super good at ignoring creeps and walking right past them when they try to stop or talk to me 🤣 I feel like they mostly look for people that look a bit lost or that are too nice to say no. In the end just remember that your safety is priority and I rather come off as rude to stranger than to put myself in danger in a foreign place. It’s definitely a lot better whe you visit the smaller tourist towns. It’s kind of what Toledo looks like.

Have you considered going for a contiki? That could be a great way for you to travel 'alone' while getting to meet other people who are also travelling 'alone', plus could feel safer (a lot of solo female travellers take that route). There are contikis that focus on particular things like the more nature/wildlife attractions while still giving you free time to do what you want, and you do have the option of getting your own private room too so you don't have to share with others

Hi Mrgan! I'm only at 24:14 in the video where you're talking about the man who approached you. I wanted to give you huge kudos for removing yourself from the situation as quickly as you could. You trusted your gut feeling and I am guessing you were correct to feel that way. Never doubt your instincts! You felt violated. Your personal safety was violated. I often feel men do not understand this because they are physically stronger/faster than we are as women. I love this video and think you're the bravest person! I would LOVE to take a trip like this but I am chicken and hate going to new places alone. New viewer but I'm so glad you're back! ❤

I think it is so important to be extremely aware and cautious when you are anywhere! You would never expect for creeps to be watching but they are. Which is one reason why I tell my little nieces that when they walk to NOT be on their phones or looking down. Even if u get scared assert yourself so you do not seem approachable. Sad we have to live like this, but we are women and it is scary out there. Better safe than sorry!

Hey Megan, I get what you're saying. Something to consider, as I have travelled a few times by myself, I have always stayed in female only hostel dorms with 4 people and have met some amazing people that way. People are there travelling alone and you can find people with the same mind set and want for adventure in traveling alone. So, if you ever do travel alone again, which I hope you do! it has added such value to my life, consider staying in a hostel. I can imagine coming back to a hotel room that only you are staying in would feel abit lonesome - for myself I am not the most extroverted person, so being in a hostel environement it is easier to have a conversation with people rather than trying to start one up in a restaurant/on the street where people probably are with others. Anyway
