Fantastic video!! so cool to be able to watch the altitude and speed! that was AMAZING!!! insane altitude gains!! with no engine. WOW!

Great finally a good thermal soaring trike video. Once us x hangies get power we have to remember to become birds again.

Great video, thank you for posting. I just purchased a used North Wing Horizon ET with a trike made for thermaling. Can't wait to train. I'm a bit confused. On one hand you show altitude in feet. On the other the speed is in KPH. What gives?
@hangflyer2 жыл бұрын
Hi Les, As a commercial pilot of course I measure speed in knots and altitude in feet, runway length in meters and visibility in kilometers. However flying slower aircraft like hang gliders and paragliders kph is widely used. And try and get a paraglider pilot to talk altitude in feet, they only understand meters! I've become good at doing the conversions in my head...

Mate what’s your opinion stick with that or save up for a 2 seater, amazing the thermals that you were catching looked pretty cool 😎✌️
@hangflyer3 жыл бұрын
They are different aircraft. You can't thermal in a 2 seater, but you can fly faster, further and in more turbulence. You also can't fold up a 2 seater and put it in the back of your car!
@binsel3 жыл бұрын
@@hangflyer I'm confused. If 2 seaters are better for turbulence, why they don't usually fly mid-day, and why nanolights are supposed to be flown in mid-day turbulence (thermals)?
@hangflyer3 жыл бұрын
@@binsel The lighter your aircraft the more you are thrown around in turbulence. If you want to be thrown around and to be able to climb in the thermals then you want a light aircraft. If you want a smoother ride you need a heavier aircraft but then you can't climb in thermals. There are plenty of people that do fly mid day in microlights, but you need strong arms and good skills. Most passengers would not enjoy it though.

this is just free energy for traveling. how far could one go on one tank of gas by just thermaling?

Nice to see..WW Sport 2 is your wing? How you strengths ore reinforced them? Cause max. MTOW with Trike and yourself is not inclined with specs. of that wing. Same problem i have..Seedwings Spyder 15 ...I changed the kiel tube and the steel whire from 2,5mm to 3,5mm...You also strengths??? BR from Germany.. fly safe
@hangflyer3 жыл бұрын
The wing is part of the certified aircraft I am flying, it is made by Airborne Windsports and is a nano light trike. I would never attach any kind of trike to a wing that was not designed to cope with the additional load and the stress created by the engine vibrations! The Sport would be like flying a fighter jet as I would be almost doubling the recommended clip in weight!

Always wanted a trike. These look great, for a beginner though?
@hangflyer3 жыл бұрын
You need training and a license to fly one in Australia. As the whole thing weighs around 80kg it is much easier to transport and fly than a heavier 2 seat trike. It can take off and land in a smaller space and you can soar it with the engine off. You would need training in a 2 seat trike with an instructor to obtain your license whatever trike you decide to fly. If you have hang gliding experience you will find it faster to learn.

Watching the flight and the thermal activity was very good once I turned the sound off. The music does not match the The ambience of flying and thermaling.

glide ratio?
@hangflyer4 жыл бұрын
Maybe 8:1, the wing would be about 12:1 but the base adds a lot of drag.
@nerome6193 жыл бұрын
@@hangflyer One reason I gave up HG was it was too hard to be sure of flight - wind not on shore + no flying and when you work FT then you don't fly that often. A soaring trike might be a solution.
