My FIRST time ever playing FALLOUT - 1997 Gaming at its finest

Hey folks, please enjoy part 1 of me playing the original Fallout. I recently watched the Amazon Fallout show and was inspired to check out the series. No idea if I'll play all of the games yet, but for now here's Fallout 1. I've also recently started up Fallout 2 and I'm still playing that currently on my Twitch channel.

Non-spoiler: Just old fashioned know-how: 1) F1-key to bring up a 'Quick Help'-page. 2) Hold shift to highlight loot. 3) You can adjust battle speed in menus. 4) You can view the game manual online for further tips, search for players handbook or survival guide. For anyone planning to playing F1, I highly recommend installing "1in2" mod! It's free, but requires fallout 2. For F2 there's an mod called Restoration Project. Also free. Vanilla options recommended for first play through.

setting, combat, ui, all extremely different. just roping them into the same genre doesn't make them almost the same

@jesselynds5411 not very, but as far as genre specifics go theyre close enough. Especially the earlier bsldurs gate games. The story telling is really close and the decisions and branching 0aths are pretty similar. If you're comparing to bf3 theyre almost nothing alike, but bg1 and 2 are much much closer.

@@YeetForTheStars im comparing it to bg1+2, fallout1+2 and bg1+2 are some of my very favorite games. they are both classic rpgs, but that's where the similarities end. every rpg has branching paths and good story telling, you can't use that as a metric for symmetry. BG1+2 and Pillars of Eternity are 'very similar'. fallout is just 'similar'. even planescape: torment isn't 'very' similar to baldur's gate, or fallout. just similar. that's why they're in the same genre.

Funny how influential this game with B tier budget became over the decades. Those talking heads were actual real life clay figures btw. Most of the face textures were added digitally though.

i've gone back to playing this because of barb bringing it back into my life. sure it's rough around the edges, but the core elements are there. and as long as you're willing to be patient with the systems which are not perfect, it is an excellent game!

also you have to be patient with the WILDLY RANDOM difficulty spikes. oh im level 1 and im getting attacked by 6 radscorpions. hmmmm.

@@Vyleea i just found out they took out the 500 day timer on fallout 1, so im happy about that, i can actually explore everything this time. now you get 13 years after delivering the water chip, just like you got 13 years in fallout 2

on the topic of colorblindness I remember someone asking barb if he had tried those "colorblind glasses". I know a little bit about vision and how it works because I read a lot of blurbusters articles. I knew immediately that it had to be a scam since the colorblindness occurs within the eyes receptors or a neurological problem and glasses cannot fix it. They can only shift the colors to a different contrast making your vision objectively worse. I hope nobody ever tried those scam glasses and got disappointed...

Things that you wish to know in your first playthrough... 1 - When dark use flare to illuminate and raise you odds 2 - Pick pocket everyone you can before enter in combat(if possible) 3 - Use dynamite to blow up things on the way 4 - Search for the panel in the entrance of vault 15 5 - Allies serves as carriages too... 6 - Don't leave loot in the corpses, get the goods and put in shelves, desks and locks. Return to the place when you get the chance 7 - Give the SMG to Ian

1 - no 2 - yes 3 - no (shitty live timer in roundbased combat system) ^^ 4 - haha (I got so furious seeing Barb runnig around not opening shelves and stuff) 5 - never live long enough 6 - yes 7 - nah, rob Ian first moment you are alone in the desert and gain XP from him ^^ 8 - 9 agility always 9 - you can unload weapons for extra ammo from picked up weapons 10 - repair for the energy shields 11 - save all the money for the doctor at the brotherhood

Black Isle, god-tier gamemakers. This game and its sequel are the only true Fallout, and they both have a ton of great fan-made content...highly recommend installing the mods after a couple playthroughs

I might not be into the type of game that fallout 1 and 2 are, anymore, but I agree that they are what fallout should be. Fallout 3 and on are just not the same. They are like oblivion or skyrim with a fallout cover.

fun fact: colorblindness is not a disability, and in some edge cases is actually an evolutionary advantage. there's a reason why it's so much more common in men than women.

And I would still argue Fallout looks better than either of those / any NES game, especially the cool claymation NPC's that talk
