Even after returning home from the war in Iraq, Chris Kyle, a SEAL sniper, cannot let go of the horrors he has experienced. This begins to affect his marriage and his life.
U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle (Bradley Cooper) takes his sole mission -- protect his comrades -- to heart and becomes one of the most lethal snipers in American history. His pinpoint accuracy not only saves countless lives but also makes him a prime target of insurgents. Despite grave danger and his struggle to be a good husband and father to his family back in the States, Kyle serves four tours of duty in Iraq. However, when he finally returns home, he finds that he cannot leave the war behind.

My nephew was a sniper in the marines and met Chris in 2004 in Fallujah. Being a native Texans and living just one town over they hit it right off the bat. But the crazy thing is I played in a band in the early 90’s and one of the guitarist had a nephew we called “Little Eddie”. It was he who shot Chris & Chad at the gun range. He was a weird little kid.

I was 11 when 9/11 happened and remember it like it was yesterday. Was in history class. Lived 20 minutes south of DC at the time so we got put on lock down the entire day and could only leave if our parents came to sign us out of school. Drove by the Pentagon two days later. Surreal moments. Always loved this movie and book. Great reaction.

I am halfway through reading the book Chris wrote that the movie was based on. As a veteran myself, I think the book is much better than the movie. You get a deeper understanding of who Chris was both as a person and as a warrior. His loss is still felt, 10 years later. He really was a legend: both during and after his service. RIP Chris

When I was a VA contactor, I was working on developing a program to better assess, address and treat CSR or what's more commonly identified as PTSD - I prefer to coin it as CSR (Combat Stress Reaction) as a means to differentiate the source of the PTSD or the catalyst opposed to other incidents that can cause PTSD. This program was going to examine cases of those U.S service personnel who were in combat operations in with combat arms roles (conventional and SOF) to better understand the symptoms and triggers but also better treat them - not just with medications but with various therapeutic treatments and integration efforts along with doing a much better job of reaching out to these individuals. During my tenor, I got to hear some of the stories of different veterans and really actually listen to them, some of them really just want people to listen to them absent of judgment and that's something I try to provide even to this day. The burden of trying to hold it all together while holding it all in is so damn difficult and damaging, it's imperative to understand that most of the general population will NEVER have to take a life or witness the worst of what man can do to each other. I'm still hoping to get this program lifted off the ground as it would be far more efficient, personalized and advanced than the current standard of VA care. This next part is specifically for those of you in the community (U.S, UK, CA, AUS etc) Please understand that you are not alone, it's perfectly ok to not feel ok. There are so many people like you and have walked through the gauntlet and experienced loss of life, self and have been broken down by the horrors of war. You're human by existence and part of that means seeking help when you're not ok. The nightmares, sensory overload and hyper vigilance, changes in personality along with burst of anger are all hard to deal with in addition to the depression that all compounds. Reach out to your buddies who been there before or served with you, but also please seek help when you start to struggle. There are Veteran communities out there that can offer you so much support but also connect you with people who know what it's like to go to those places and bring the war back home with them.

A few years back I was reading Chris Kyle's book. I remember reading about his friend who died during surgery. When he was wounded, he refused help getting to medics, cause he knew if he needed any help it would take other soldiers out of the fight. Then later, he said he just returned to the middle east and found out his friend died during surgery, and it hit me so hard, I had to put the book down for awhile. Went to see this one in the theater, and at the end everyone sat in silence through the entire credits and then quietly left. No one spoke till they were out of the theater. Never experienced that in a theater before.

"I was just protecting my guys, they were trying to kill... our soldiers and I... I'm willing to meet my Creator and answer for every shot that I took. The thing that... haunts me are all the guys that I couldn't save. Now I'm willing and able to... be there but I'm not, I'm here I quit." "You can walk down any hall in this hospital. Looks like plenty soldiers need saving." Fun Fact: Early in the movie, Clint Eastwood is seen with his back turned entering the church. Location Location Fact: With the exception of two weeks filming in Morocco for exterior Iraq scenes, this movie was filmed entirely in California. That Doll Fact: According to Jason Hall, two babies were supposed to portray Chris and Taya Kyle's (Sienna Miller) child. A doll was used after one baby was sick and the other did not show up. Bradley Cooper admitted that he thought it was silly using an unconvincing plastic doll for Kyle's infant child during a serious, emotional scene. With Honors Fact: Bradley Cooper only spoke to Chris Kyle one time on the phone, just a couple of weeks before Chris Kyle's tragic death. It was a two-minute conversation according to Cooper. Since Kyle's death, Cooper dedicated eight months to bring Chris back to life and to honor the Kyle family. Cooper did such a great job, that the Navy SEALs who had known Kyle, and trained Cooper, said they felt the presence of Chris when Bradley was around. Historical Fact: Chris Kyle is depicted in the movie as shooting the child with the grenade and then the mother when she picked it up to throw it. In the real incident, she was the only one shot when she attempted to attack U.S. forces. In the autobiography, Chris Kyle stated that he never engaged the Mustafa sniper and believes that he was killed somewhere else. The real Chris Kyle was murdered on February 2, 2013 at a shooting range while trying to help a veteran who was reported to have psychiatric problems, including PTSD.

I remember watching 9/11 When I was 12. Not even 30 seconds after leaving my house to walk to school, my mom ran outside and dragged me back into the house and we watched the events happen on T.V. live. I wasn't completely aware how significant it was at that very moment but I grew up hearing about all the small details and learning more about it and it burned me up inside. When I was 18 I joined the U.S. Marines, served for 8 years. I learned a lot over that time and had brothers in arms from Afghanistan who joined the U.S. Marines to gain their citizenship and to make a positive difference in their country of origin. Whether you deployed or not, it was a rough time for everyone, because at least a handful of guys you knew in the armed forces had been there or not come back.

Anyone old enough to remember will be able to tell you exactly where they were and what they were doing on September 11 - I was in maths class, we all just stopped and TVs were wheeled in, half the school went home. After school I went to the shopping mall to wait for a bus home and nobody was really shopping, everyone was just standing in crowds around every available TV. Its not an exaggeration to say the entire world stood still. As for Chris Kyle - imagine surviving all that then coming home and being killed by a fellow veteran you were trying to help.

I’ll give ya 3 recommendations. I would highly recommend Band of Brothers. It is my absolute favorite show of all time. Another one that goes with that would be The Pacific, but I would take a break in between watching those 2 due to how emotional it will feel. My third recommendation would be the Chernobyl short series. It is only 5 episodes long but they did an amazing job with the storytelling and scenery of the show. Definitely worth a watch if you havnt seen it

You are absolutely gorgeous and I am your number one supporter. I know that I've recommended the Bad Batch surrounding the likes of Clone Force 99 and Full Metal Jacket, other recommendations are The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi and The Rise Of Skywalker. P.S., the world needs more beautiful people such as you

I enjoyed the movie at first when it first came out until I did a bit of digging. Theres a dark back story to this movie that even Bradley Walsh and Clint Eastwood distanced themselves from the film. Turned out after multiple lawsuits with the Kyle estate after his death and the production that he was a notorious liar. He lied in his book about certain accounts while in the military and claimed he was shooting looters during Hurricane Katrina. He also lied about beating Seal veteran Jesse Ventura in a bar during seal reunion, which lead to Ventura winning a defamation law suit. Even the US military and other seals went after his claims such as the Syrian Olympic guy who Kyle claimed he was hunting never existed. One Seal who served with Kyle said that guy was just wrong upstairs. He did three tours because he loved it, he couldnt wait to go back, he went out there looking for trouble. He got PTSD not from Iraq, but from civilian life. He craved it and the attention back home. If the guy wasnt in military he would be jail. That was a powerful statement and an eye opener. After that I put this movie down to basic US propaganda fiction glorifying their horrific invasion of Iraq. Take it with a big pinch of salt.

@1:51 it’s interesting that you brought up the “correct” metric system but ask yourself: what’s the system used in the only country who has landed people on the moon, and multiple times at that? It not the “correct” metric system. What’s the system of measurement used by the country that’s done a ton to help to protect its ally Australia in the pacific theater of wwii? Some could argue the point it’s the reason the Japanese didn’t take it over or at least inflict a great deal more damage to Australia’s infrastructure. It not the “correct” metric system. For a system of measurement that gets s*** on a lot it’s certainly done a hell of a lot of damn good work towards progressing mankind. It’s always fascinated me how people love to talk about being considerate of other peoples’ customs and culture(which btw would include their own system of measurements and standards) but are so quick to chide and deride their system of measurement when the timing is convenient and comical.

They picked the wrong actor in Jake Gyllenhaal to portray Chris Kyle. A lot of veterans and special forces were upset when they found out Jake Gyllenhaal is an anti-gun celebrity and they chose him to play as Chris Kyle who is very pro gun, just like any other veteran and special forces.

I haven't found any other channels react to the movie "Thank you for your service" yet maybe it would set your channel sway from the rest. Also it's based around the same time period of this however it delves more into the psychological impact of the recent wars in the Middle East has had on soldiers back home.

Love the movie but I hate the way they showed Marc Lee die, because that’s not at all how he died. He died when he stepped into the line of fire to provide cover for his fellow Seals with his M240 (it was either an m240 or an M249 I’m unsure which)

We must remember, that in the 2nd WORLD WAR, 1938 TO 1945, SUICIDE bombings/Kamakazi/Kitons/ & even Anphedamine crazed German SS army soldiers were purposed as a lethal weapon. This was used in the Korean War, and in the Vietnam War too!

I feel like a lot of people are like “I wanna be the sniper” and they don’t really take into consideration, unlike a rifleman or, gunner or anything like that, they spend their time shooting in a direction they were shot at from, snipers are, actively shooting at someone, they are looking at the person or, at least an identifying feature someone’s there and they will likely know their targets deceased. I was a GM in the navy and then my last bit I was doing recruiter things and I remember, such a large amount of dudes wanting to be like Chris Kyle and Marcus Luttrell, as, that was when I was doing recruiting was right between these two films and it’s, I don’t know, I guess, funny, because, you know that guys likely not even going to show up for the recruit meetups let alone rack up a couple hundred kills or fight a village worth of Taliban. Romanticized ideals are a wild thing. Not the best to base your career plan on, realistically speaking.
