I train fasted* all the time, except for leg day I have to have some sugar haha yet fasting is a great way to reset people's relationships with food

I’ve been following you on/off for years and this is the first KZbin video of yours I’ve caught as I have experience/ heavy interest in fasting. Gotta say, you seem way more personable than your IG makes ya out to be. Will be watching some more vids & paying more attention to the IG! Thanks for all the info sharing

I watched this few days ago and thought “no way I could fat that long” Now I’m nearly 48 hours into a fast because I have appendicitis in the hospital and can’t eat lol.

The water weight loss happens right at the start, when your glycogen stores are getting empty and you loose the water than is held with it. Everything afterwards is mainly fat loss. First 24 hours of not eating is fine, the big problem for most people is probably the first night with hunger. Also basic stuff like putting a bit of salt into your water to mitigate electrolyte losses and the headache that can come with it. I found one 24h fast per week when I want to loose a bit of weight the easiest way.

I always train fasted! I always found I'd get so bogged down and groggy if I eat before training. The pumps are much better whilst training fed, and I get warm quicker, but overall I just prefer the feeling of training with an empty stomach then to be all bloated and whatnot. I also have hit all of my PR's fasted for what it counts. I used to experiment a lot with multi day fasts when I wasn't experienced as a lifter, but I'd be interested in trying those out once more to hit some different weighted chin-up/dip goals.

Exactly. It is hard to time your meals before to feel energized and not lethargic.

Did my first 3.5 day fast this summer. Was easier than I thought. No trouble sleeping and little hunger. But I did lose a lot of strength, even in the days after refeeding.
@freehatespeech68044 ай бұрын
It takes 1 to 3 days to recover from such fasts in my experience. Glycogen isn't replenished immediately.
@PlutoTheGod4 ай бұрын
You can’t lose a lot of strength within 3 days of fasting, more than likely you were just dehydrated during your fast and undercarbed / lethargic going into your next few workouts

@@atlaspowershrugged longest I’ve gone is a little over a week and while there is a decline in performance it comes back with the glycogen replenishing and refeeds fairly quickly similar to if you do something cardio intensive like a marathon or a full day of swimming or whatever your numbers go down it’s definitely not like you’re gonna lose a full program cycle over not eating for a couple days

You know, people think you can't perform on carnivore, or low carb either. You can if you've adapted to it. They don't have studies on people who've adapted to it, they have studies on people who changed their diet immediately for the study, and screwed themselves up. The real pit fall that you have to deal with on low carb, or carnivore is not wanting to eat enough. Without carbs, you are not hungry enough, and that's what makes training hard in my experience. It's easier to eat rice to get glucose than it is to eat an extra beef. It's not really optional for me. I have too many chipped teeth, mental health issues, and too many intestinal problems that occur when I eat carbs. So until I stop making progress, I'm not gonna look at fucking with it.

The other day I ended my first multi day fast, I didn't lose strenght but cardio felt worse, I had some troubles with sleep quality but always managed to fall asleep. That said I am quite fat so that may be the reason. I also started taking creatine and while fasting I took salt and a multi vitamin/mineral pill marketed to 50 year old women so I don't know how much it helped.

THe salt definitely helps, I didn't try that my first time.

It amazes me how much time I save during the day when I do longer fasts. So much time is spent in the kitchen cooking for me. Sometimes I’ll find myself just standing in the kitchen leaning on the counter bored. I also always struggle with breaking the fast and not going off the deep end. Two weeks ago I fasted for 3.5 days and then decided to try keto for a few days after, but it wasn’t long until I broke and started binging on everything in sight. Seems like the best thing for me is to do a longer fast and then start tracking calories every day and allowing myself to eat more carbs later in the day.

Definitely interested in more info on multi-day fast. Did IF for a while and, like you said, would basically go sicko mode during the eating window. Wondering if you did anything to make the fast easier? I’ve heard of people consuming salt in various forms, chugging water, etc.

@@atlaspowershrugged Look for "low sodium salt" in supermarkets marketed for people trying to reduce sodium intake - the sodium is "cut" with potassium. Dirt cheap - the one I get has the RDA for Na and K in 2 teaspoon - so will last for years. Magnesium I still have to buy supplements and is more expensive, though.
@flusterclick4 ай бұрын
@@atlaspowershrugged In the supermarket there many "low sodium" salts with potassium replacing some of the sodium. Dirt cheap, one shaker will probably last for a lifetime of fasts (just calculate the RDA of potassium or 20mEq/day and get the rest from regular table salt). Still need to buy magnesium - but magnesium supplementation is better at higher doses than what is found in LMNT anyway.

Been doing 3 day fasts per week for the last couple months, just about to finish my first 7 day fast. I was very overweight at 115kgs and am 101kgs currently… I was also worried about muscle loss but I’m not that jacked and knew I just had to lose fat quick cos I could never stick to 1000 calorie a day diets ect. Glad to hear your experience on this. My goal weight is 90-92kgs before I start lean bulking. A couple questions. 1) You’re very lean now, how often do you implement fasts per month and for how many days does it last? 2) (this will probably sound dumb) Why is gyming still worth it while fasting? I’ve been doing a lot of slow cardio in the morning as I have heard that’s great while fasting however I feel so weak at the gym even while using electrolytes and being hydrated. Is this still the beginning phase you talked about? Because my limited understanding was I needed protein to maintain muscle, how effective is gyming when on a 72 hour plus fast? Does it just keep strength? This has been where I’m most confused; the effectiveness of gyming while on multi day fasts. Sorry for the long ass comment, thanks for the video
