best Metal Birthday Ever!!
@Grington3004 жыл бұрын
Legend 1997 was December 2013, the day after Su-metal's 16th birthday. BABYMETAL Death is the opening song on their debut album because (as has already been explained) all they are doing is introducing themselves first spelling out B-A-B-Y-M-E-T-A-L and then saying who they are. Most often it was used as the opening number in their shows (without the theatrics), every now and then they would play it later in the show - at Legend 1997 it was the finale and yes the piece you read at the start was what was being explained in the introduction video that they also played at the show. They had been singing about chocolate and playing hide & seek earlier in the show. They only crucify Su on special occasions (5 or 6 times in total so far). The last time was at Legend S which was for her 20th birthday ... they didn't use a cross that time, it was on a big circle with an XX motif in it as the Roman numerals for 20 ... and they had extra flames for that one. So the metal elitists and gatekeepers think three teenage Japanese girls can't be 'Trve Metal' ... how many of their favourite bands crucified their lead singer on stage on their 16th birthday while 9 or 10,000 people chanted "Death Death Death" and a statue that looked a bit like the Virgin Mary was decapitated and crumbled. These three girls are more metal than any of those elitist gatekeepers can ever dream of being - but they still had time to make sure Su's hair looked right. Oh yeah #NotACult ... no really, honest.

Yui and Moa were both still in their home group, the very J-Pop IDOL Sakura Gakuin, for the early years of Babymetal, including this concert. [They "graduated" (aged out) of Sakura Gakuin in March 2015.] I loved to imagine a similar conversation between Yui, Moa, and one of their classmates (say Hanna). After a long day of shooting and recording the vocals for one of SG's cute J-Pop videos, Hanna approaches Yui and Moa. Hanna: "Wow, that was exhausting! You guys wanna hang out at my place , eat way too much, then sleep over?" Yui: "Sorry, we can't." Moa: "Yeah, we gotta get to bed early. The Babymetal tour bus is going to leave at 4AM." Yui: "We're gonna crucify Su at the end of the concert this time, while everybody shouts, 'DEATH!! DEATH!! DEATH!!', so she can transform into the Goddess of Metal!" Hanna: "Again?! Didn't you guys do that last year?" Moa: "Yeah. Last year we burned her on the cross, too." Hanna: "Right. Well, see you Friday when we start rehearsal for the next Sakura Gakuin performance!" Or something like that. I am just in awe of their talent. In two groups simultaneously - in opposing genre, you might say - and they nail both. Just...incredible.

the intro beat are homage to Metallica song "One". the statue was also homage to Metallica "And Justice For All" album and live concert, where the Lady of Justice statue breaks, just like the Goddes Statue breaks at the end of this performance. the neck brace is a tribute to Yoshiki (drummer-pianist) X-Japan who break his neck because too much headbanging while drumming. so he must wear neck brace to avoid more damage. BM Live Legend 1997 Apocalypse is for Su-Metal birthday show. the concert was held on dec. 21, 2013 just one day after she's turns 16 yo and this are the present from YuiMetal & MoaMetal. but this not the first time nor the last time they perform the crucifixtion. and this is not a cult,.. @chrisharris15224 жыл бұрын
Yay I get to explain, ok, so this song was normally used to intro the concert, you guessed right. Babymetal Desu, pronounced Des, sounds a bit like Death, means We are Babymetal. Thats why the girls were pointing to the crowd and each other, meaning we are all Babymetal. So they are basically saying I am Su-Metal, I am Yuimetal, I am Moametal, we are Babymetal. They like the way Desu sounds like Death and have some fun with that. Japanese commonly have trouble pronouncing the "th" sound so their producer encouraged them to put their tongues between their teeth to try to get them to make that sound when they say Moametal Death, but just ended up making them look like they are sticking out their tongues, Kawaii!!! and they rolled with that lol. This performance was done at the end of this show which was named Legend 1997 for Su's 16th birthday. The opening riff and the statue collapsing at the end were nods to Metallica the girls favourite metal band and also good friends of theirs, and the neck brace is a nod to X Japan.

@athlonen4 жыл бұрын
@@Singulitarian Actually, it is the other way around. Since desu means "I am", they are introducing who they are, not screaming "death". They aren't going to say "Su-Metal DEATH", they are saying "Su Metal Desu". You can prominently hear the S sound, even in the growling behind them. The word is "desu", which sounds like death, which is why they named it "BabyMetal DEATH" in English. They are saying this in Japanese, which the western world is immediately thinking the word "Death", because they named it that, and we are thinking that that is what they are saying. The word is "desu", which sounds like "death". It's a pun.

⚡ 💀 💕 / 💀 💀 💀 That was from 'Legend 1997', the same concert that the video for 'Gimme Chocolate!!' comes from. This song 'BABYMETAL Death' is usually an opener. And it usually doesn't include a crucifixion. In this case it was the last song of a five song encore with the live Kami Band. I've told this story many times, but I saw BABYMETAL open for Korn & Stone Sour in Chula Vista, CA back in 2017. The concert was on Yui's Birthday (June 20th). There were dedicated Korn fans on either side of me, who were expecting something called BABYMETAL to be pretty mellow. They opened with 'BABYMETAL Death'. The expressions were priceless.

the lyrics are a wordplay between Japanese and English. The "japanised" pronunciation of death sounds much like japanese word "desu", and desu can be translated to I'm, we're, it's, etc, so when they say "Su-metal desu" it can be either "I'm Su-metal" or "Su-metal death".

@ANDOR-4 жыл бұрын
Strange how nobody commented what the crucification meant (even though you read the lore part of it). It was a metaphor for her being an Idol the whole time and coming out as Metal Godess. They started the concert with a heavy techno or whatever version of Headbanger (Night of 15-mix) to show what she was, sang the ending song of the "rebirth" segment of the Neon Genesis Evangelion movie Death & Rebirth (death, rebirth and sacrifice are a few of the main themes in the tv show and the movies) and ended it with "her idol persona being crucified to be reborn as a Metal Godess" in this performance here. The rest is probably explained a lot of times already in other comments.

Also an interesting thing to notice in this song is that the lyrics and title are a japanese/english play on words: In the song you hear them say "Babymetal death" or also "Su-Metal death", "Yui-Metal death", "Moa-Metal death". To the ear used to english at least. Su-Metal, Yui-Metal and Moa-Metal being the stage names of the 3 girls. Now in japanese when you introduce yourself you'd say for example "Su-metal desu" ("I am Su-metal") with the last "u" being silent so the word "desu" spoken sounds almost like the englisch word "death". The song is basically just an introduction of the band and it's members.

The metaphor of death and rebirth is also the beginning of Babymetal to be a separate band from their origin: Sakura Gakuin The singer Suzuka enters in the idol program "Sakura Gakuin" as another girl, and in this group one of the producer hearing her voice make the idea of Babymetal, and Babymetal starts like a subunit of the program Sakura Gakuin. But because of the nature of this program, only very young girls can be inside. Any girl who ends secondary education (about 16 years in Japan) got "graduated", a nice way to say "oh, you´re fired, bye bye you are to old for this program" But Babymetal without Suzuka can not exist so she got "retired" from Sakura Gakuin (with a graduation and all those things) and got a new contract with AMUSE in Babymetal, now as a new group from this record label. She is no longer the "Nakamoto Suzuka" from Sakura Gakuin, now she is "Sue-Metal". Maybe a strange way to do things but Japan is different. Oh and the neck protector it´s an obvious reference to Yoshiki. The producer of Babymetal is a fan of this group. Well, almost anyone in Japan was a fan of X-Japan. Never hear of X-Japan?... just check something like this kzbin.info/www/bejne/lZ7IY6ych5x9nM0 Modern music in Japan can be dated as "Before and after X-Japan". This band was huge, really huge. True legend

I flew from Toronto to Tokyo to see them on January 25th and 26th back to back. The two concerts had a Sun & Moon theme. Tracks list was totally different both nights. “Sun” was lighter and more poppy tracks, “Moon” was the heavier satanic stuff. Then the beer virus came. I was lucky AF to be there and experience that crowd before the world got the plague. The concerts were in the same venue you saw in this video. For future reacts i have 2 suggestions: “Headbanger (makuhari messe)” | back to back special with this: “Headbanger Night of 15 Mix” Its either a two-fer or a two part special, you decide. Aaaaaand: “BxMxC” ...because BabyMetal is an icecream of many flavours.

The name of the song is Babymetal Death, the band name is part of the title. It's a play on words. The verb "to be" is "desu" in Japanese. But you don't pronounce the "u", so it sounds like "des". Which is exactly how a Japanese person pronounces the English word "death". Babymetal Des - We are Babymetal. Or Babymetal Death in English. Throw in how inappropriate it is for the crowd to chant death at young ladies, and you have a concert experience. Su once said in an interview she wanted to play across the world and have people come and say "what the heck was that?" They are more metal than people give them credit for.

Just so you know, they aren't really saying "death". Desu is part of an introduction. Basically "BabyMetal desu" means "we are baby metal" or "Sui Metal desu" means "I am Sui Metal". It DOES add a lot to the reaction and I thank you whole heartedly for this. I really commend you for it and hope you keep this trend for any future reaction, be it BABYMETAL or anything else. Well, BABYMETAL has won several awards for "Best Live Act", beating Nightwish to a few of the top 1's. That should tell you a lot. When you go to a BABYMETAL show, you really do get a show. Also, you're right, they used that song to introduce themselves a lot in the past. There is more to this a whole lot more then most people realize who aren't into babymetal know. Read into Sakura Gakuin (Cherry Blossom Academy) it was (now disbanded) a Japanese idol group created in April of 2010 with 8 members. Comprised of female elementary school students and middle school students selected from Amuse (record label) Kids with a theme of school life A boarding school for young girls to learn acting and singing with different themes babymetal started as the metal club in there. At 16 girls 'gratuate' and leave the school. But they obviously got very popular so people where afraid Babymetal would end when Su reached 16. Obviously they went mental when she was reborn a day after she was 16 here back in 2013.

Mate try "In The Name Off" next time :))) "I didn't expect exactly that from them" is the most commonly used phrase for Babymetal. :)) And mate don`t forget to react to Batmetal with your friends :))

It would have to be from Legend S and that would have to be link & sync, no way it will stay up on KZbin otherwise.

You forget that Babymetal isn't a band, it's a show. A lot of western people keep forgetting that part.

As big a fan I am of this band, I definitely don't like some of their imagery and lore including in this video. I do love the song itself though. This track, "BABYMETAL DEATH", is the first song on their first album. It's an introduction to Babymetal, and one of their heaviest tracks. I think only "Sis. Anger" is heavier instrumentally (it's basically a deathcore song with pop vocals). There's the "death" chants in this song, then the 3 girls say Su-metal desu, Yui-metal desu, Moa-metal desu and Babymetal desu. Don't quote me on this, but I think it's a play on the fact that Japanese people have a hard time pronouncing the "th" sound, and "desu" means "I am" in Japanese. So they're basically saying "-metal death/I am -metal". Btw, nice call back to your horrific experience watching Immaculate Misconception by Motionless In White 😂😂😂😂. I don't think I've laughed harder than when I watched that reaction. Also, MEGITSUNE!!

> "The song is called DEATH LEGEND 1997" Not quite right. The song's title is "BABYMETAL DEATH". "Legend 1997" was the show this footage is from. "BABYMETAL DEATH", by the way, is the intro song from their self-titled debut album. > "This is quite a fucking show right now!" Well... It's BABYMETAL. They live for the show! > "You would feel like you're in a cult or something!" #NotACult
@OhrionReacts4 жыл бұрын
Lol #notacult BUT!!! if they used proper grammar in the video I reacted to... If probably get that it's called "death" and legend 1997 🤷🏻♂️ just sayin lol. But I get it now 100%
