I just wanted to say how awesome it is that you write your opinions and feelings about the content your watching, and not blab over it every two seconds like so many reactors do. So much is lost, and missed when they do that, Your comments are deep, inteligent and relevant to the song. ... You're doing a great job, keep it up! 👍👍👍👍👍

Raphael Ravenscroft was a British musician, composer and author. He is best known for playing the saxophone riff on Gerry Rafferty's song "Baker Street".

" Baker Street " is from his second solo album "City To City " and the song is named after a street in London . His old band before he went solo was called "Stealers Wheel ". You are so right Mia , his voice is so soothing and relaxing , then that Saxophone wakes you up a little Lol . Beautiful reaction as always and yes , you definitely said his name right!

Gerry Rafferty wrote the song and the brilliant sax is by Raphael Ravenscroft who did it for a standard session fee of £27. No royalties even though this became one of the most memorable sax breaks of all time

Same thing happened to the guitarist who played the James Bond theme. Although he didn't get any royalties I'm sure Raphael Ravenscroft got a lot of work as a result of his playing on Baker Street.

"You used to think that it was so easy, but you're tryin, you're tryin now!" Those lyrics are about as universally prescient and haunting as they come. It forces regret infused nostalgia from the time when we were young and saw adult wankers doing quite well so we assumed we would sail blithely through life with one resounding success after another. How naive! We're tryin now!

As many have said, his previous band was "Steelers Wheel", Before that he was in another band called "The Humblebums", a folk/rock set with his Great friend and fellow Glasgow native, Billy Connolly. Try and see an interview of the two together, believe me his singing voice is so different from his speaking voice, especially with a fellow Glaswegian !!

Funny thing about this song, Mia..Sherlock Holmes lived on Baker street. And like the lyrics, he was a night roamer, womanizer, drinker and opium user, always restless without a case, often talked to Watson of "Giving up this sordid life and buying a country farm house somewhere". May be coincidental on Rafferty's part, but who knows. Either way, killer sax, guitar and cool groove --we loved it, all over the radio pop and rock stations, Big number 1.

Hi Mia! Nice to see you again! That was an awesome reaction to an awesome song! I've always liked this song since I was a kid. I'm not familiar with his other solo songs, but if you react to them, I will listen to them! I do know that before he went solo, he was in a band called Stealer's Wheel, which had a hit song called "Stuck In The Middle With You", which has been in different movies. It would be cool if you could react to that.

On the radio a lot in '77, it had a singular uniqueness that made it possibly the most original and meaningful hit of the era. Man, can I relate to the character.

to me it speaks of how some are lucky enough to find the one path in life that they are happy with, and they stick with it, but others are always moving from one job to the next, one relationship to the next, always restless and never staying in one place. the character in the lyrics is one of those people who just can't put down roots or commit to anything, although he yearns to do so.

Great reaction! I think of 9/11 when I hear "Baker Street." The haunting, huge sax solo reminds me of the planes hitting the Twin Towers in those giant explosions. Or a nuclear apocalypse. This music and lyrics is the sound of tragedy. This music is the sound of fear, pain and suffering. Especially fear.

I think this goes back to 1977. Man the 70s had so much good music. It was everywhere. Those were great days. In the town I lived, there was a Baker Street 2 blocks from where I worked. Baker street is one of those songs that grabs ya and never lets go. Simple song, with perfect vocals, and instrumentation that created magic. 500 years from now people will listen and say WOW. I see others have mentioned "Right Down the Line" as another great Rafferty song - yeah it is.

'City to City' should have broke Gerry in America, but he's total reluctance to be a star scuppered it. He was about the music first. But he was a legendary songwriter far beyond this. In later years disputes arose about who exactly penned the notes in that saxophone solo - but it is present in Gerry's demo. As his old collaborator, Billy Connolly, later said 'I bet he wrote every note of that song...'
