He was on his death bed at the time of recording. He died 2 months later. Though, nobody knew this back then apart from the band. That is why the video is a montage of other videos and band moments. The lyrics, as you probably know, also reflect his state of mind. "I'm about to turn the corner now' is the one that gets me. Amazing that a man so sick can still belt out such amazing vocals. Guy is a legend!

The song was recorded in 1990 during the Innuendo sessions...the song was released on the 14 of october 1991 in the UK, one month before Freddie's death.

Brian wrote this song about Freddie when he was very sick and quite close to the end. Brian never intended for Freddie to sing it but Freddie kept coming into the studio asking for songs to sing so Brian gave it to him and he totally smashed it. It is not an easy song to sing so Brian wasn't sure that Freddie could actually hit the high notes but, never underestimate the talent of Freddie Mercury. This is why he is a true legend.

? who was going to sing it then? Brian couldn't he could only manage it in falsetto it was written for Innuendo for Freddie to sing Brian used the chord sequence Roger and John did in a jam session but composed most of it Brian and Freddie came up with the theme together and wrote it together as said by Brian in many interviews including TV Freddie wasn't well so the entire song wasn't a finished article. most of it was. This truly fantastic Queen song was recorded while Freddie was battling his symptoms from HIV/AIDS. “The Show Must Go On” is a compellingly powerful final coda to Freddie’s legacy. The song closes Queen’s final studio album released during Freddie’s lifetime. While “The Show Must Go On” was mainly written by lead guitarist Brian May, the song’s theme is driven by the probability it would be Freddie Mercury’s “finale”. His severe symptoms made recording Innuendo difficult. Freddie’s struggles with HIV/AIDS were kept secret from the public-at-large until his official 1991, November 23rd, press-release divulging that he was, in fact, dying from AIDS-related complications. Previously the British paparazzi had speculated, cruelly, and reported, that Freddie was diagnosed with the disease (from the time his diagnosis was “leaked”), and proceeded to stalk him, adding insult to injury. During these last recording sessions sometimes Mercury was so ill he could barely walk, making the recording process erratic, emotionally wrought, and logistically difficult for the band, especially for guitarist Brian May, a studio perfectionist. Brian told a feeble Freddie not to over-exert himself during a session for the final track’s vocals, intimating he wasn’t up to the challenge. According to Queen lore, a frustrated Freddie responded by slamming a shot, or two, of vodka, saying, “I’ll fucking do it, darling”. May recalled Mercury’s performance, "He went in and killed it, completely lacerated that vocal" Intentionally or not, Freddie’s announcing his illness on November 23rd was prescient. Approximately 24 hours after the press release, Freddie Mercury died. And the show has very much gone on …

„That track was strange - recalls Brian. I did the most of the lyrics for Freddie to sing and you can imagine what that felt like. I did ask him at one point if he was okay about it and he said, Yeah, totally okay about it. I will give it my all. And he did. He sang, I think, some of the best vocals of his life on that track, and most of the tracks on that album are incredible. He really was getting very weak by that time, but he could still summon up that strength to sing.” Freddie was very sick at recording this song, but he didn't stop and singing and making music kept him alive a little longer. I am always impressed by his strength, determination and perserverance, Freddie Mercury was a musician and performer from top to toe.

This song is unbelievably inspiring!! Brian said, “I sat down with Freddie and we decided what the theme should be and wrote the first verse. It’s a long story, that song, but I always felt it would be important because we were dealing with things that were hard to talk about..” Brian was convinced the song’s title was too predictable and offered to change it, but Freddie refused. 🌈☀️🌷🦋

I still remember the day Freddy died as if it was yesterday. I was and still am a huge Queen fan and the earth stopped rotating when the announcement came about his passing such was the impact. It was such a shock and it made HIV and AIDS for as far as we didn't already knew a real thing and that it could happened to anybody. The tribute concert for Freddie Mercury in my personal opinion didn't do much justice and though the gesture was heartfelt you simply can't see Queen without Freddy. Although the soul of Freddy never left Queen and the huge legacy he left behind it is only small comfort to his early passing.

Amazing reaction my friend!!....In 2017, the music world was shocked by the bursting onto the scene of a 22-year-old singer named Dimash Kudaibergen, who performed on the famous Chinese competition show for professional singers called “The Singer”... It was just It was necessary for this young man to make his first appearance, making a cover of one of the most difficult songs in the world, a famous French composition called "S.O.S. D'un Terrien En Détresse", to be considered from that moment on as the best singer in the entire planet....No one in the musical field had ever seen a human being, being able to reach vocal ranges above 7 octaves and several semitones, that is, all 88 keys of a digital piano, which reaches a little more than 7 octaves and as if that weren't enough, sing the more than 12 languages...Since then all kinds of experts (Vocal coach, analysts, singing teachers, youtubers, reactors, etc.) have dedicated themselves to reviewing their presentations to try to understand how someone can sing this way...The incredible thing is that that presentation in China was in 2017 and 5 years have passed since then, but what Dimash has done in these 5 years is to further improve his wide vocal range, which is currently practically above of the 8 octaves... The Covid pandemic stopped his concerts worldwide, all with tickets sold in just seconds, via the internet, but at the same time it ended up catapulting him to the top of popularity worldwide...Anyway, since I think you are one of those reactors who have not yet met this impressive singer, here is the link of that presentation in China in 2017, with the song S.O.S. and I would like you to mention my name as the person who recommended him to you...You have to be prepared because you ar going to receive an avalanche of views, comments and new subscribers....I leave you one more recent video than the others, so it does not have the same number of views as the previous ones, which have millions of views, but it is a more complete video, with an intro, subtitles in several languages and with the improved quality of audio and sound....kzbin.info/www/bejne/mHW7ZHmeot6Bl8U
