That is why TOOL and Pink Floyd are mentioned together , Their albums are like one long song and should be listened to in order from beginning to end and both bands have long songs and never radio friendly lengths of around 3 minutes or so and neither of these bands care about that..

That entire stanza , “When I was a child, I caught a fleeting glimpse, out of the corner of my eye. I turned to look, but it was gone. I cannot put my finger on it now, the child is grown, the dream is gone.“ resonates hard with me, more than any other Floyd lyric, including Time, which is pretty powerful in itself for an ageing boomer.

David Gilmour is one of the best guitarists of all time, period. Pink Floyd were half a century ahead of their time, imo. Listen to Time or Money and remember that, when these songs were recorded, technology was such that looping sounds meant literally splicing bits of physical tape over and over, and some of the looping sounds in those songs took months to create. Musical genius comes close to describing Pink Floyd.

If you look at all the great musical artists, in any genre really, what is clear, to me at least, in their finest works, is that they put not only raw talent, polished skills and their heart and soul into it, but they also took the time to methodically and systematically craft their opus the way an architect designs a structure or an engineer designs an aircraft. There was a tremendous amount of just plain thinking that went on here with much editing and reediting along the way. I don't mean editing in terms of what sound and recording engineers do, but in terms of the music itself before it was ever recorded, on paper and inside the composers' heads, no different essentially from how classical and jazz composers crafted their works. Such works seems perfect and fully formed because a massive amount of work went into crafting them before a single track was even laid down. The composers kept looking at and challenging their composition and altering until it just felt right and nothing more needed to be changed. This was a fully conscious creation that only seems merely inspired to some.

Pink Floyd doesn’t come close because nobody comes close to their genius. This is the greatest band to ever grace the planet. Comfortably Numb is iconic and one of their best but you haven’t even begun to scratch the surface. Masters of the conceptual album, you should certainly listen to each album in its entirety during one sit down play through. Best albums: meddle, dark side of the moon, wish you were here and animals. So much brilliance in those four masterpieces

Yeah....there are guitar players, and then there’s David Gilmour. His tone and feel is unmatched. The TOOL comparison in my opinion is in getting ideas across and unconventional song structures with deep lyrics.

I think the similarities to Tool are mostly in the way the music makes you feel. Tool unquestionably has a harder edge to their music, but both bands have produced lush, sonic landscapes that, when you give in to them, can take you out of your head, out of your body. Both bands have a deeply satisfying hypnotic quality to their songs.

@@Calicarver The Pot is a great introductory song for many people with diverse musical tastes. It's fairly heavy, but showcases a little bit of everything that makes them the special band they are. If you want to try something less heavy, I would suggest Reflection, which I think would be viewed favorably by most Floyd fans. Having lyrics handy is good for any TOOL song because they tend to be very thought-provoking.

I don't think Pink Floyd and Tool sounds similar, however they are similar in the fact that they are unique and they are so good. Whenever you get done listening to all the tool albums and all the Pink Floyd albums, you go out and you look for something similar to either tool or Pink Floyd and you can't find it. Nobody else sounds like them, they're each their own genre. And each so good.

Tool had 25 years of progressive rock/rock to draw from when they started up in 1990, including Pink Floyd who were formed in England in 1965. Pink Floyd created their own unique sound from precisely nothing, and amongst other great albums, in 1973 they made the fourth best-selling album of all time - Dark Side of the Moon. You can't really put the two bands on a par with each other.

@@Stars-and-Stripes- You can put Tool on a par with Beethoven if you choose, but that doesn't mean they are outside of your own wishful thinking. @@nomdaploom That is simply YOUR opinion, "You can put Pink Floyd on par with Beethoven" if YOU choose, but that doesn't mean they are outside of your own wishful thinking... So I guess music did not exist before Pink Floyd became really popular in 1973 (Dark side of the moon) and they didn't have other bands before them throughout the 60's and prior that influenced them in any way... So please tell me who TOOL is copying their sound from? Just because you are a huge fan of Pink Floyd and prefer them ,you revert to thinking and saying that Floyd was 100% original, Yet TOOL is not some how because Pink Floyd came before them? So there for TOOL could not be Just as original in their own right?...🤣 You are being silly, as all this is of your "opinion", Just as "I personally" put TOOL on PAR with Pink Floyd and in fact I personally put TOOL above Pink Floyd.. This is all a matter of personal opinion... One persons favorite bands of all time are not the favorites for others obviously... For example, while I recognize the Greatness of Beethoven as a composer, I personally do not listen to his scores as it is just not my cup of tea to be honest as Classical music is not for me. “One man's trash is another man's treasure” - Philippians 89:50” circa 800BC...

Watching someone else experiencing their soul touching music intensifies the my experience too. I am 68 now and this is my fav band of all time since first hearing them at around age 20. Their pace of slow starts to the build up and the full blown still sends shivers down my spine. Their lyrics are so poignant and the best thing you can distinguish every word that is sung.
