The way Eddie Van Halen put it into words is best way I've heard David Gilmour explained. "David Gilmour is the benchmark of less being more. He has proved that shredding and fast playing is not the benchmark of mastery level. Gilmour never wastes a note; he builds his solos like a painter; every note, every bend, every tonal inflection has merit...David's solos paint a picture in the minds of his listeners. Something that really is a testament of his talent as a guitar player"

Dude, it's really the truth. It's a lot easier to play things fast although it seems contradictory. Both are amongst my favorites but Gilmore never wastes a note. It's crazy. But neither did SVG. It's all about the soul of the player.

It was May 1994 in Raleigh, NC. David was playing this solo and then the lights hit that crystal ball that is as big as a house. The whole stadium was in a trance. All 60,000 plus people were slowly spinning into euphoria. This was the penultimate song that is only rivaled by High Hopes. I will never forget the experience.

It was May 1994 in SC that the same thing happened to me. It was surreal to see the 'stars' spinning around the stadium. I remember the security guards near the concourse all pointing at the mirror ball before it lit up. They were yelling "WHAT IS THAT?!" No one knew.. then BAM, it lit up, and everyone went nuts. Amazing. 😁

I got May and September 1994 in Atlanta. The first show I was way up in the nosebleeds and you could see the mirrored ball raise up from the center console but we didn't really know what it was until the lights hit it. One of those experiences that you have trouble explaining to someone who didn't see it too. The second show in September I had 8th-row dead center and some excellent LSD. That was the greatest concert experience of my life.

Your reaction has all of it. First of all, the reason I watch reaction videos is to see someone else feel what I felt the first time I heard that song. It is such a good feeling. That usually is good enough for me, but King KTF, you also have great analysis. Until you pointed out the impact that having no human voices in big chunks of this song, I don't think I would have ever realized how tightly packed, sonically, music is today. You also grabbed the best lines. Those were the most profound, in my opinion. Great video. Thank you.

Even though I have seen this video 2-3 times before I always look at it again when I do my 6 month CN reaction binge. It's one of the best genuine ones.

David Gilmour shows us that for a good solo, you don't have to play an insane amount of notes... just the right ones! One of the best soloist from one of the greatest band of all time.

wish you could have seen them live, sat straight out from the stage and their music did lift you out of your chair. Actuall seen them 3 times and the one concert that lifted me up, i’ll never forget
