44:40 Conan grew up poor and struggled with money (he said that his family had to move a lot and there were times where it was hard to buy food) he said that he wrote this song bc when he moved to LA that he met many rich people (like you'd think money solves all problems and then he realised their struggles) so Conan wrote it from the perspective of the rich people

there's actually a really interesting (and infuriating) story behind the word affluenza, and it happened in a city close to Conan's hometown. There was this extremely welthy 16 year old who one day decided to go steal some beers with his friends and then drove inebriated much above the speed limit at a residential area, which resulted in him killing 4 people and injuring many more (some lost the ability to walk). You'd think he'd get a really harsh sentence since he literally killed multiple people, right? But his lawyer coined the term affluenza, and said he suffered from it, meaning he was too rich to realize that his actions had consequences, so he just got probation and mandatory therapy 💀. As some other people mentioned, Conan grew up poor, so I think the song is about him realizing that rich people can be very unhappy and too much privilege can make you inconsequential and without a sense of purpose, after spending most of his life fantasizing about having a lot of money. I've been a fan of Conan since 2020, but I really started listening to his music at the end of 2021/early 2022. I LOVE him and his music so much. I'm currently trying to score tickets to see him in concert. He used to be a small artist (with the exception of Heather being popular before Superache released) but I'm SOOOO happy he's getting the love he deserves with his music. I cannot wait for your reaction to Found Heaven! I've listened to the few songs that have been released already and I SOBBED at Alley Rose. Yay! I'm so happy to see this!! So looking forward to your raction to Superache and just for Found Heaven to come out. So soon! SO For the Story Conan has said that mostly they're stories that he's heard from his friends. Because being the one in the friend group that has been through things (as we hear in Family Line) you tend to be the friend that when friends are going through shit they come to to talk to for comfort and empathy. So, I believe that's where The Story came from.

I love what you said about the specificity in Conan's lyrics because it really is true. A rule of writing is "show don't tell," and that's what Conan does with his lyrics. He doesn't need to say what he feels, but as listeners we know from him showing us what they did.

The Story is my fav song of his cause its SO relatable like.... the world works in mysterious and cruel ways, you may think you are made for someone but then the future is not as bright as your dreams, and sometimes everything is going wrong for you but eventually when you grow older and more experienced youll realize everything you went through makes you who you are. And people ARE mean; if they weren't, life would be a piece of cake, but when you have someone to rely on it definitely doesnt automatically solve all your problems, but now you're carrying your burden with someone and maturing is understanding the people in your life are there to help you with this burden but, eventually, when you get used to the weight and they finish playing their role in your life, they'll have to leave; but the fact they were there once makes it all worth it. anyways, love your reactions, your thoughts and... your voice?! its so pretty !! i could spend an entire day talking to you!!

Conan said that The Story is about real people he’s known through his life and stories that have affected his life and how he sees things. He said "I wrote this song about me and my friends' childhoods. There were times growing up that I thought life would never get better. That life would always be that painful. But I promise, it's never the end of the story" Also about Affluenza, if you watch his draw my life video from like 7 years ago he talked about how after his parents got divorced, his dad came into a lot of money which made them happy for a while but ended up turning out to be a bad thing, so it might be in reference to that or just talking about rich people in general.
