The world lost a lot when he died, musically and as a human being. He was probably one of the most inspired and talented singer/composer/writer of his generation. He was also kind and generous, fighting against injustice, racism and poverty, especially in Africa (he helped and paid for bringing water in villages). We missed him a lot in France. Thanks for that lovely and sincere reaction.

Written with air To tell you that I feel alone I draw in empty ink A desert And i run I'm hanging on to life I get drunk with the noise Bodies that surround me Like lianas tied in braids Without understanding the distress Of the words that I send Difficult to call for help When so many dramas oppress us And the tears tied with stress The cries of love suffocate a little more Of those who are in weakness And in a last hope Disappear And i run I'm hanging on to life I get drunk with the noise Bodies that surround me Like lianas tied in braids Without understanding the distress Of the words that I send All the cries of the S.O.S. Go in the air In the water leave a mark Whose scum makes beauty Caught in their glass vessel Messages struggle But the waves bring them back Starstones on the rocks And I picked up the bits of glass I put all the pieces back together Everything was clear as water Against the past there is nothing to do We should change the heroes In a world where the most beautiful Remains to be done And i run I'm hanging on to life I get drunk with the noise Bodies that surround me Like lianas tied in braids Without understanding the distress Of the words that I send All the cries of the S.O.S. Daniel Balavoine was one of the only French singer of his generation to know how to convey emotion through his songs, and his voice was so powerful and intoxicating that he was able to make you cry. his texts have always been of great finesse, that's why in the 80s, he was always at the top of the charts!!

Hello Sandra, All the music is composed with the idea of the sea in motion (the whole first part is made up of samples of surrounding noises, a technique still little used at the time. D. Balavoine was a pioneer in this area) the waves crashing on the rocks in a spray of foam. And the tide that tirelessly brings that bottle back to its sender before it breaks itself on those same rocks, destroying any hope that this message will ever be discovered by anyone. It's a song about the isolation of the human being, his loneliness in a time of progress, on the incommunicability that the latter ends up creating between men. It's a song written before the internet and social media era. If D. Balavoine saw what is happening today, I think it would drive him crazy! :)

Every cry, each SOS Like a mad man goes to throw at sea Empty bottles, hoping maybe Somebody can read through them The SOS written with some air, To tell you that I feel alone, I am drawing, in blank ink, a desert. And I run, I'm hanging on to life, I'm getting drunk on the noise Of the bodies around me, Just like creepers tied in braids, Oblivious to the distress Of the words that I throw. It's not easy to call for help, Drowned in so many tragedies, And the teardrops tangled with stress Smother a bit more the cries of love Of the ones who live in weakness And, in a final hope, dissolve. And I run, I'm hanging on to life, I'm getting drunk on the noise Of the bodies around me, Just like creepers tied in braids, Oblivious to the distress Of the words that I throw. Chorus: Every cry, each SOS Vanishes in the air, Leaving, in the water, a trace Made so beautiful by its foams. Caught in their vessel of glass, The messages struggle But the waves do bring them back As stardust upon the rocks. And I picked up the splinters, Put the pieces back together. Everything was clear as water, There's no winning against the past. The heroes ought to be replaced In a world where the best is Yet to be done. And I run, I'm hanging on to life, I'm getting drunk on the noise Of the bodies around me, Just like creepers tied in braids, Oblivious to the distress Of the words that I throw. Chorus: (x2) Every cry, each SOS Vanishes in the air, Leaving, in the water, a trace Made so beautiful by its foams. For me, also encountering this artist for the first time, it was similar, when the intro started I was like "uh, well, hm..." and nearly about to pause and maybe watch later, just coming from listening to classical music I felt I was not in the mood for this type of electronic, synthetic sound, but just in time his voice hit in and from that moment on I was captivated... still think I would like it even better with another instrumentation...
