I use to produce 25,000 sections a year. Set-up: A single-basin kitchen sink with the drain basket out sits nicely in a standard drum, with a 5 gallon bucket underneath the sink. Secure a metal queen excluder on the sink, ribs down. Use a serrated steak knife to cut the comb, and a short-handle spatula to transfer the pieces into larger trays, tongs to transfer into jars or small trays. Everything is contained, and easy to clean up.

That is absolutely fantastic. Pierce is making tools that will last the rest of my life, and I haven't found anything that's made better or with better built-in parameters. I have the larger version for making squares from foundationless frames. Thanks for sharing, Kamon! Comb honey is very popular and novel :) I haven't had to use any foundation, but I checkerboard the comb honey frames. Thanks for mentioning the presentation tips for comb without drips... Happy Monday!

Here’s a tip from Virginia: use a cookie sheet pan to place under that rack . This will catch the liquid gold in order to fill one of those chunk honey jars . I sold mine $15 / jar and if the honey was a very light colored honey the price hit $20/jar .

Hi! From Eastern NC and just wanted to say, Thank you for the quick shipment of 4 jars of honey! This is my second order, and you honey is excellent! Excellent packaging, zero complaints! Didn’t know you had comb honey til I came to post this message. But hopefully you’ll still have some for my next order. Was ordering from NY, but it always got to me fully crystallized. I know honey never goes “bad”, but felt every order with multiple jars, and all fully crystallized was just too much. I felt I shouldn’t have to de-crystallize every jar before use. But I’m tickled I found you here. And your product thus far, and I expect in the future, will be as I’ve received so far. Absolutely lovely to pour, or spoon, from the jar, And mixes easily with whatever I’m making! Again, Thank you, for the care you take, creating a great tasting, and easy to use, honey! God Bless you and yours! 💞💞🙏🙏💞💞

K&L, great video. I produced a little comb honey before and didn’t have to use a wax foundation or starter strip. This year I waxed the 4 insides of some frames and they seemed to just take the wax from the frames so I pulled them and put some starter strips and the started drawing and filling the comb. I have yet to harvest that since we still have a small flow going but I plan to pull those frames and put them in the freezer for a few days. Kamon I bet this won’t bee your only year to produce comb honey. It sounds like you’re hooked!

Gene Killions book is great for people wanting to make a few boxes of comb honey. And you are absolutely correct when you said there’s very good management strategies that will work for all beekeepers. On KZbin watch the ‘simplified juniper hill split’ by Herman Danenhower. He uses this on his Hogg half combs. But it can be used for any comb honey wanted. He’s been in the journals discussing the process. I’ve used it when I made comb honey. I found it a lot easier than Killion.

I am in my second year beekeeping and learned about Ross Rounds at a class I took. I tried it and ended up with 28 of 32 possible round comb honey. I was very pleased with the ease of the Ross Rounds. But I do see that the method you used produces more comb honey than the Ross Rounds. The main advantage to the Ross Rounds is that it is a less messy comb honey.

Dadant is sold out of the "Honey in the Comb" book by Eugene Killion, published in 1981 and 1989. Searching for it shows the same titled book authored by Carl Everest Killion and Michael Bush. It looks like Eugene is Carl's son. The book by Dugene Killion is a revision of: Honey in the comb by Carl E. Killion that was published in 1951. Is the earlier book by Carl Killion and Michael Bush almost as good as the revision by Eugene Killion?

I started using 3/4" starter strips in a regular frame (per little bits honey bees recommended) and they seem to build comb faster than foundations. Also works good if needing deep comb built in brood box, drop them between open brood and they'll build real quick cause they hate a gap between brood, also they can still feed larvae back and forth.

I'm glad you brought up freezing the comb. I've heard horror stories of customers buying and saying they had "worms" in it. The chances are fairly good of having an egg from wax moth or more likely SHBs. Can you share when you treated and what you used for mites?

Wow I started comb honey supers myself this season. An also got great results from it . I put five supers on an got four supers filled an yes some frames were not filled all the way but I was very impressed with how they turned out. I chose to cut my blocks in the 4x4 squares. I will definitely be doing this every season from here on out . Thanks Kamon for showing us your success or your Bees success lol. THANKS

I have always found comb honey to look so delicious but I must also admit that I really do not enjoy eating it at all. I think I might, on the very odd occasion, enjoy a little square to chew on, but the wax is just not a pleasant mouth feel for me, so while I love the look of it I will stick with extracted honey.

@@kamonreynolds If it is just for your own consumption, and family and friends, all you need is a seeding honey (you buy a good creamed honey to start you off but then reserve some of your own from year to year), a pail or two, and a large stainless steel mixing hook (some look like giant corkscrews) that will fit on a cordless, or corded drill, and you are in business. Loads of videos on how to do it here on KZbin, and while you need to know how the process works it is not really that complicated.

Why did you not just lay the fraim on its side and use cutter to cut blocks out of it. That would save you the time of cutting the come out of the fraime then cutting it again. You could also turn it sideways and cut just the top or bottom if not all full and it would leave starter comb for when you put it back in the hive

We also use ordinary honey frames, with horizontal wires, we just cut along the wires simple eh?
