I honestly think some narrative reloads are fine, there's a big difference between minute metagaming reloads (if you wanna do it tho, go go) and just correcting something that you misunderstand, are learning etc. Imo, nat 1/20 in skill checks isn't always that realistic so it can bother me from an RP standpoint when especially routine nat 1 happens. So personally, rarely I adjust just for the flow - that is, unless playing on honour mode, which i have been lately, and I never thought I would.

The act 1 of this game often implies that you are under a time pressure to continue the main quest. That can lead new players to hurry and take too few rests, accidentally skipping many camp dialogues. You should know that the game doesn't actually punish you for going too slow so you can take as long as you wish. There's only a handful of time gated quests in the whole game.
@monozuki2 ай бұрын
Exactly! Also, aside from these few time-sensitive quests, the general rule of thumb is that time is not progressing unless you're in the earshot of the thing. So knowing something is happenning "somewhere" you don't need to rush, but encountering some event directly and ignoring it will probably have consequences.

@BakesKamuari that's not true at all. A decent amount of CRPGs have timed quests. Even BG3 has some(if you start certain quests and rest to much people in those quests people can die). I hate timed quest though and it's one of the many reasons I can't play the Patherfinder games.

The Dark Urge is the only origin character that does not participate in this story unless you're playing as him. If you feel like doing a second playthrough you should really consider playing as him, some even say that The Dark Urge is the true main character of this game.
@hekatebleble48002 ай бұрын
I say that. I've been there with Larian since before the Early Access and ofc paricipated in it as well. To me and many others the not-so-subtle hints from that time were suggesting the dafault character was meant to be essentially like the Dark Urge. Still, I think they hit the nail by separating the two. Not everyone would vibe with that fixed origin and everything it entails but for people who do and conciously make that choice, the DU gives a chance to go pretty dark with that stuff. The best od two world's, basically.

Fun fact, the implication of the characters here is that everyone was actually significantly more powerful, but somehow their experience on the mind flayer ship, or possibly the tadpole's influence (It's not made totally clear) basically brought their abilities back down to level one. There's basically no way that any of them could have had the adventures they have already had, like 10 years fighting in the hells or attracting the attention of the goddess of magic and dating her, without having been significantly more powerful previously.

There are so many ways of solving problems in this game and you can respec at any time essentially for free. So with that in mind, I think its totally fine to not worry even a little bit about min-maxing or the question of "how effective is this build?" (though that attitude doesn't quite work as well for Honour Mode lol). One of my main recommendations is to not be afraid to use spells and abilities outside of combat. If you think something should work if you use a certain spell/ability, try it. It may just work. Dialog is not your only non-combative solution like it tends to be in other RPGs.

The replayability of this game is bananas... at the very least, you can do a playthrough using a different race/class combo which will provide a totally different experience from each other due to the varying abilities, cantrips, and racial bonuses. Then you can play as each of the origin characters... then you can choose to do a fully evil playthrough (durge or otherwise) if you were a goody two shoes in your previous runs. The different dialogue options you make each playthrough can also have a dramatic impact on where you end up at the end... On top of all that, there are the honor and tactician modes you can do. This game will probably get multiple years' worth of play time out of me

Excited to follow you along on this grand adventure! I've put about 170 hours into my first (and as of yet, only) playthrough in the space of about 4 months, which is... Quite the achievement for me these days. I've just recently started to feel the (don't know if *dark* or not) urge for a replay. But I guess watching your playthrough will suppress that for a while. Baldur's Gate 2 was (hell, still is) somewhere near (if not on) the very top of my "RPG mountain" for about two decades, and I never expected a sequel by a different developer in 2023 to challenge it, but... Yep, it did. I didn't have trust in Larian while the game was in EA; what I've heard/read/seen didn't grab me, I didn't see BG in it. Then in the last couple of days before release, it started to click with me. Based on newer articles and videos and stuff. Something switched in me and I thought that it's going to be a masterpiece even if it doesn't really feel like BG to me. I preordered (on the day (basically the night) before release. I never preorder, and very rarely buy full priced big releases. But yeah, zero regrets with this one. And I was shocked to be able to say upon finishing it that yeah, this is up there with all of my all time faves. (I know it's a bit of an old-timer, stuck in my ways, yelling at clouds type of mentality, but I honestly thought games will never reach the heights that I percieved they did in my childhood, and nothing will come close to those Bioware rpgs (BG-s, KoTOR, DA-s, ME-s) for me...) So, here we go, The Sword Coast awaits! I hope you will find as much enjoyment in this incredible game as I did! edit.: Ah, that first Critical Fail was a classic! 🤣

Glad to see you finally get around to this, been hoping you would for a while now. Hope you enjoy, seems like it's right up your alley and a perfect fit for your style of playthrough. Can't wait to see you get around to 1 and 2 eventually as well, they still hold up well and knowing you like Dragon Age I'm sure you'll love them too.

I discovered your channel a few weeks ago and I was already getting sad because I’m almost running out of videos for the Bioware games (Trespasser today!), but BG3 is literally the *one* game that I believe tops ME and DA in terms of RPG and immersion. Sooooo happy to be along for the ride with this one 😭🙏🏼

Mapocolops, (I'm not sure if you already learned that, since it looks like you already recorded 5 episodes but) you can attack with a Quarterstaff and then do Unarmed Strike, it appears on the right-most panel after you attack with your primary weapon (basically after you used your Action). Flurry of Blows is a special Bonus Action that allows you to make *additional* 2 Unarmed Strikes, but it uses your Ki points, which you only get 2 per Short Rest. Also, you might prefer using Jump (Bonus Action) in order to get through your allies, rather than to run around them, to get within melee range. You do forgo your Bonus Action attack, but at least you can use your Action to fight.
@BusinessSkrub2 ай бұрын
Best spoiler-free hint for the game is don't forget about Jump, and that your Jump distance increases with your Strength score. Having a STR score lower than 12 can basically cripple your ability to navigate in and out of combat without using spells or potions all the time.
@Nick_Vendel2 ай бұрын
@@BusinessSkrub Honestly, my PC has STR 8 and i was completely fine navigating most areas (in at least Act 1), if needed i could always switch to Lae'zel and use her _athletics_ to reach places other characters couldn't. I do wish game would allow use of ropes though, that would make it sooooo much easier to reach areas below you.
@BusinessSkrub2 ай бұрын
@@Nick_Vendel Mmmm that's fair, I felt like there was a TON of navigation in small places where my whole party couldn't get across a gap, so I'd have to have one character always use a potion or scroll. Which, I suppose, is kind of intentional, but it drove me nuts so I just boosted Gale's STR to 12 and said screw Wisdom haha. I do agree about ropes though, biggest disappoint of the game for me and my buddies was rope being useless inventory fodder :(
@Nick_Vendel2 ай бұрын
@@BusinessSkrub in these situations, i typically just split the group and use one character, most of those exploration things are optional and typically don't require a lot of skill utilization, so one character typically can just get there, do whatever needs to be done (like just open a chest) and then get out of there. The only time my PC actually stuck in such a place i just used quick travel to get out of there. + Lae'zel gains Githyanki ability to cast "Enhance Leap" pretty early, so in rare cases where even she can't get somewhere, she can just buff herself to reach it. Also, "Enhance Leap" is a Ritual Spell in BG3, so Gale could also be a huge help without wasting any resources.
@BusinessSkrub2 ай бұрын
@@Nick_Vendel yeah, that's true too I guess; I'm just remembering places where multiple paths were available, but obnoxious or roundabout and time-consuming, like the door in the back of the Grove or the navigating outside the Monastery. Maybe I just like the party stuck together cause i find mildly annoying to move everyone around individually after a few hours haha

I must thank you for your efforts! I just found your channel because I have been curious about a few games. I watched a part of Cyberpunk 2077 start and this video as a whole. I love how you take your time, go through everything, read stuff and you are also pretty calm and not as hyperactive as some people. It's a pleasure to watch these videos. This was exactly what I was hoping to see. Now I know what these games are like without spoiling too much. Your introduction to these games was perfect. I will most likely get both games I mentioned once I upgrade my PC! 😁 I'll definitely have to check out other games you have played too! 🙂

Fun fact about the abyssal face tattoos: they literally translate to the part of the face they're on. So the one on the forehead just says "FOREHEAD", so on and so forth. It's like the equivalent of people getting cool chinese looking characters as tattoos only for it to mean "HOOKER" or something 😂

Dark Urge was originally going to be the default choice, but the devs decided against it. That's why its so customizable, almost as much as a custom character. Makes a lot of sense, honestly. Custom characters don't really get any story of their own, sometimes feels like you're just the generic guy going along with your companions. You don't even get to develop a story of your own as you play unless you roleplay it for yourself like a headcanon. Kinda awkward. Most fans also strongly recommend playing Dark Urge if you've played BG1 and BG2, or are planning on playing them, because it "makes BG3 feel more like a real Baldurs Gate game" Apparently they only decided against Dark Urge being default because they were afraid it would be too dark for a lot of the potential audience. Understandable, I suppose.

Wait where was the genitals customisation that everyone gets surprised by when it pans out to the naked character!? Why wasn't there an option for the genitals on mapos game!? That was one of the things I was looking forward to the most in the character creation, always to see the shocked faces of people when they see the genitals lol.

Nudity probably is disabled in the game options
@ArcTV.2 ай бұрын
@@plants.plants I remember there being a full screen window presenting me with an option to show nudity or not with a bedroom as the backdrop and mapo didn't get that, or maybe that screen is before the "press any key to continue" screen and he already selected to have nudity disabled before starting the vid? Does it get him demonetized or something? Just that I imagined not since it's part of the video game and I've seen one or two snippets of other youtube playthroughs with it on. But knowing youtube they probably will anyway considering his cyberpunk incident.

"Were not going to reload saves." Thank god!! I think thats the best way to play this game. Otherwise you lose alot imo. Skills mean very little if you just reload until you succeed.
@mithikz76082 ай бұрын
I agree with this, but it also sucks to lose access to quests in act 2 and 3 simply because you rolled a 1 with no inspiration in act 1, even when you've maxed the skill out.
@ArcTV.2 ай бұрын
Fully agreed. It's so much more immersive that way. And lets be honest like you said, everything means so much less if you just keep reloading, it's cheating but if you find that fun then by all means its a single player game, but for me it ruins everything except the story and for watching a lets player it would ruin the watching experience for me, mapo is doing the right thing by saying this imo, of course there are fringe situations where he may reload and maybe to see more story/dialogue outcomes.
