@carnilia yeah that's a huge mistake made by devs, they should make the tutorial pop up for resting state that you should rest frequently because companions may have stuff to say. Instead new players (me included) think they will turn into mind flayer if they rest a lot. The plot and the mechanics of resting kind of work in opposition because the plot urges to progres story as quick as possible. Similar to Cyberpunk, I hate that in games.

also I know everyone is repeating it, but it can't be stressed enough, long resting often is SO important in this game. Maybe more than it feels natural. Because long resting is how you get personal dialogues and cutscenes with companions and you only get one per long rest, and a lot of them need to play out.. so long resting often in act 1 is super important to not miss personal stuff and developments with companions. And don't be stingy with short rests do that as soon as any combat ends on the spot.

Quality of life tip that I don’t remember if the game ever explains, but you can actually throw healing potions on the ground to splash the effect in an area. If you split up and arrange your party in a tight + formation, you can throw it in between them to heal everyone at the same time with one potion. 👌 Also, “Even though you’ve only got 1hp, you’re still dangerous. I should finish you off.” is a very good habit to get into early. Taking enemies out of combat entirely is usually better than spreading the damage cuz an enemy with 1hp can still kill you just as easily as you can them lol.

Not sure if you figured it out, but I think because your controller disconnected then reconnected mid conversation it was trying to add a second splitscreen player. The usual splitscreen process is to plug in a new controller and press start, normally the game is smart enough to auto switch the control scheme for player 1 rather than try to add a player but it seems in a conversation it's a bit iffy.

During my playthrough I did as few long rests as possible because I was afraid and I was saving my supplies "for later" (as I do on all games as a hoarder). I saw later that I missed on a lot of stuff. I don't know if there are time sensitive quests though you can miss out by taking a long time to act.

Short rests are your friend. Long rests are your friend. Using short rest abilities can also be your friend. I'm not trying to min max your game or even optimize it but as someone new to the game and D&D its things most new players wish they new when they started. As far as the rest of it goes great stuff and I am here for it. Go where you want do what you want play how you want. That's the great thing about BG3 and D&D, everyone gets to experience something a little different based on the choices they make and the roll of the dice. 3 combats per day with a short rest after the first 2 and a long rest after the third is a great general guideline. Then using that as a guideline you can adjust on the fly. There have been times where I have done 1 battle and took a long rest right after because I used so many spells. Other times I have gone 4, 5 or 6 battles because they were so easy.

Don't know if you'll read this, but I'm gonna give you tips on how to build Warlocks like Will as they're on the more complicated end of the spectrum of classes. Eldritch Blast is your bread and butter damage cantrip. It's in fact what makes Warlocks strong, one of the best cantrips. There are two Eldritch Invocations that improve on it, Agonizing Blast and Repelling Blast. They're basically mandatory. The second thing is that Warlocks have very limited spell slots, but they're all at the highest slot available, meaning that you always upcast the spells. Therefore spells that can be upcasted are best. Hellish Rebuke is a great spell, and so is Armor of Agathys, which i highly recommend you get back. Hex doesn't benefit from upcasting, but it's also a staple for warlocks because of its interaction with Eldritch Blast: each bolt from Eldritch Blast triggers Hex and it can quickly amount to a lot of damage. Another thing about Warlock spell slots is that unlike other casters who regain them after a long rest, Warlocks regain them after a short rest, to offset the very limited amount of them.

To help put the comments in context there are 2-3 unique nighttime camp conversations for each companion that you will only see by resting a couple of times BEFORE you enter the Emerald Grove. It's nothing major and i dont think ANYONE see's them on their first playthrough but they're charming and lay a bit of groundwork. Everyone's literally just hankering to see you start unravelling the companions stories 😂 Really enjoying the playthrough, and yes i was amazed by how long you managed to delay going into the emerald grove. 😂 I ran straight in and spent literally 2 solid hours just exploring it and talking to everyone, the grove was when i really knew this was gonna be something special lol.

Hey a fellow Way of the Four Elements monk first playthrough! Love to see it. 🤜🤛

25:18 I will say just cause I think it’s interesting because I’ve never seen this happen before. If you loot the dwarf here outside of combat you get a cutscene. Because you looted him in combat you never saw the scene xD. It’s not *super* important or anything all the info you learn there can be learned elsewhere but I thought you’d find it interesting for future playthrough reference.

I play with both controller and m/k 🤣 I use controller to sit back walk around and explore areas, talk to ppl etc... and when combat triggers I just press any button on keyboard and switch to m/k for combat, also for inventory management :)

also hint.. if you are playing on controller... pressing UP on d-pad gives you automatic shortcut to jump, so you dont have to go into radial menu for jumping :)

In case you missed it (most people seem to) the voice that said, "You should inspect that corps," (where you fought the human brother and sister to the dying dwarf on the way to the Owlbear cave before you met scratch) was the voice of your Guardian

Aaron (the vendor in the grove encampment) looks like Mark Knopfler, so it's no wonder they're in dire straits.

One really nice thing in BG3 is, your companions don't run blindly into traps you already discovered. In other games you move a little, and your group steps into it like idiots. ;D

Really? So my followers are doing it on purpose? :P

In the cave, Astarion did get death saving throws, but because he was burning, he continued to take damage which is an auto fail.

speaking to the scared boar is even funnier when you know it has the same VA as wyll

Guidance lasts for 10 turns. So, you can have Shadowheart cast it on you, then go on your own when you know you will need help on proficiency checks, like when you approached the owlbear solo. That is also good to do on areas when you know there might be multiple traps and you don't want everyone to walk all over them. Have her cast Guidance on 1 person, then separate that person and have them walk around with the bonus to their perception checks to find hidden traps. you can do this 1 by 1 on all for party members if the first person failed a check or 2.

Little quality of life feature, you can shift click in your inventory to select a range of items (Works like windows' shift click for files), as well as ctrl click to multi-select multiple items, and then you can drag the whole group (to move it to someone else's inventory, or sell it to the vendor, etc).

A little combat tip - if you stay close to the enemy, they have disadvatage to ranged attacks. Also, Astarion can use sneak attack (ranged or melee) as he will have an advantage even though when not hidden in this case. Sneak attacks are quite powerfull, do not sleep on them ;)

Mapo doesn't read comments with advice or backseating so this is something he'll have to work out on his own - or not. lol It took me two acts to figure out how to use rogues properly, but that's just the nature of a game that doesn't really tell you what to do. The point is to learn by doing!

Never tried using the controller but may need to try it after watching this episode - the camera angles feel a bit more immersive

Chests and barrels you can pick up and send back to your camp. I like to collect an assortment of different styles of chests to keep in my camp supplies. Then I can organize things that I am storing in my camp chest. All weapons go in one chest, all books in another all and so on. There are quite a few different styles of chests.

It's funny, despite having Astarion in your party, you never have him do the disarm and pick lock attempts.

1:05:50 Shadowheart got her subclass right away. Clerics are one of the classes that choose their subclass at level 1. Trickery Domain in Shadowhearts case.

i also tried this with a controller. But: You don't see all tooltips/itmes, and the inventory management is a nightmare...

I'm assuming you've figured this out by now or that someone has informed you... You can (and need to) sneak to be able to not be seen and pulled into combat/dialogue. I don't know the keybind off the top of my head, but you can have the entire group sneak at once as well This isn't something you have to do in combat or in turn-based mode, your entire group can sneak whenever you need to

Anyone know what happened at 1:37:45? Initiative rolls like he entered combat but no combat, i do know that the npcs were probably supposed to get mad at the looting but i haven’t ever seen that before

Potions (that give you conditions, healing potions don't count) you drink also last until a long rest, but you can only have the effects of one potion at a time, so if you drink a potion of Hill Giant Strength, and then drink a potion of Speak with Animals, you will lose the benefits of the potion of Hill Giant Strength.
