I'm a bit worried it's going to be much of the same as last forza motorsport. Turn 1 and 2 for overtaking 80% of the opponents and then use the rest of the race to overtake positions 1,2 and 3. That gets boring quick. Here is to hoping multiplayer will be more sim-like and competitive in nature. EDIT: it turned out to be exactly as I feared

Seems like all racing games have gone down that route now, GT7 is a horrible culprit for it. 13 out of the 16 cars may as well not be in the race. GT4 had less predictable and more interesting AI, a game released almost 20 years ago.

I'm really eager to see how it handles with a wheel. I do enjoy semi-sim games like this but the handling looks far too similar to FM7 which was absolutely terrible with a wheel, and from what you said the "heaviness" still seems to be there as well. Hopefully it's just controller assists or something... Maybe it's also a setup thing? Looking at the temperature graphic I noticed the Civic was spinning up the inside front wheel a lot.

Having many race Sims, Forza 7 can definitely be "good" on a wheel. It just 4,000 attempts to change settings a billion different ways. Only took me 5 years! 😅😂

To get the wheel calibrated correctly, you have to go into the settings and change steering sensitivity and the deadzone. After that, the wheel was actually really fun to use but only after the pain that is setting it up. I didn't feel the" heaviness" but that's just me

Despite what the developers claim, I am still seeing evidence of the classic Forza drivatar formula of all the cars bunching up in front of you so that the first 1 or 2 cars can run away, and also cars turning into you and trying to ram you off the track. It's worrisome and I hope this isn't going to become a thing.

I hope you'll do a video on wheel, and maybe cockpit camera at the same time, and tell us how the wheel feels. Maybe do a video to compare to FM7 or FH5. That gamification could be good, for some people, could help people learn how to race better, take corners better, lines, etc

Ya. I don't see why you would compare those 2. FH has been going even more arcade with every release. I can't be bothered to play FH5, I think my son might enjoy it. FM has tried to call itself a sim and I feel it just doesn't hit the mark. It needs to grow the separation between horizon and motorsports IMO. I've never owned a Playstation but would consider it as GT is hitting that mark. That's my console preference. I have a sim setup and run IRACING on PC for a few years now.

I think it has more to do with the sense of progression and feeling like you're working towards a goal and tapping into human satisfaction through progress and feeling like time put in was worth it. I just hope it's not so grindy because sometimes I just wanna hop in and go for a drive (tbh if I was feeling like that, I'd just actually go drive)

would love to see a dive into the wheel physics from your point of view, comparing it to how FM7 may feel, and even comparing your own lap times on one track on FM7 on a controller and wheel, and the same on the new FM on a controller and wheel. very avid “leaderboard hero” on FM7 on a wheel and i’d love to know if the wheel is properly competitive in this game compared to FM7. thanks for the video’s, Steve, and can’t wait to see your future videos on Forza and IRL stuff too!

It is very difficult to fully evaluate physics without a wheel and force feedback. Gamepad controls require input filtering and aids to make it accessible and easy to use, even with Simulation steering. Hopefully they get the wheel implementation right this time.

It’s still going to be important to me and other wheel users what the FFB is like. I’m happy to play in a less than hardcore sim but if there’s no decent wheel support or low quality FFB (on top of no VR), I’m not shelling out $60+. I know they probably don’t care because they’re going to make the bulk of their money on console players with game pads, but if they’re not going to provide the features I want for a properly immersive racing experience I just am not interested. I wish they would though. 😕

Saw a longer test by another early previewer before & it was deflating tbh. The upgrade system is silly, like he said, when you feel something is lacking & you know what's causing it you should be able to choose that part with your points/credits not be forced to go down some pre written route for every single car. Also he was cutting corners all over with zero penalties &...we still have Forza Aero. I mean the Subaru did have other options but the Civic Type R only had one & it was the daft big aeroplane wing from FM7 again...but new tow hooks & hood pins, yay. He was also using the same wheel setup as me & that didn't sound like anything new either, he said it took a lot of work to get the feel right but out of the box it was poor. 6 yrs, not impressed...didn't even have the new photo mode options from Horizon. It's clearly gonna be a slow drip feed of old content being introduced as extras down the line that they couldn't get done in time for whatever reason. Look forward to what's to come from you but this isn't the next gen Forza I'd hoped for right now.

Always online is a major reason why im staying away and if it gets removed then ill hop in. Edit: Night time does look good, props to having raytracing in game too. Question I have (maybe to answer once released): I heard long ago that they planned to let you transfer your FM7 liveries here, how accurate are those liveries carried over or do they get misaligned like 7 with its paste to left/right? Also how do the car sounds compare to FM7?

Well, it certainly doesn't look like a sim as realistic as GT7 or other sims. BUT it does look great, looks like a lot of fun, and from what I've heard about online play, it strikes me as a racer that doesn't require you to have the best fannatec setup and still have fun on a controller in a fair way. I play GT7 with a Fanatec DD Pro and I'm pretty sure I'm easily faster on a controller. I may just be stupid though.

My only issue with GT7 is the lethargic force feedback. There is barely any feedback from curbs, bumps, grass, etc. I play gt7 on a logitech wheel, and I recently picked up fh7 (also on a logitech wheel), and whil gt7's wheel support is way better, fm7 feels way better, way more communicative. And that's already an old game. Anyways, neither GT nor FM are "real sim", and that's probably never gonna change

@@VictorioLopesyeah dull force feedback is a deal breaker for me. I didn’t spend $1700 on a steering wheel to just feel some generic centering force and basic bumps. I have to have that feeling of weight transfer, tires slipping at the edge of grip, the vibration from curbs, etc. lots of people have steering wheels these days even if some of them may be more budget oriented wheels. They need to spend more resources on dialing in force feedback and making it as realistic as the visuals. Every system comes with a controller and I understand the need to have a great experience on a controller but that doesn’t mean they can’t put in more effort for those of us who bought a wheel and want a more authentic experience.

The AI still does that irritating thing where they go (already slowly) into a corner, and then inexplicably slam on the brakes right on the apex. Makes it impossible to follow closely through a turn.

Yes I noticed this straight away. Dan Greenawalt said the AI is improved now from what's in this video though, but whether that's true or not, we'll have to wait and see. I mean, he used to claim the old AI was very good, which was never true.

Would like to see what the inside views are like and also wheel support as well. First impressions to me were it’s still very FM7 feeling. The fact they haven’t even bothered to change the start sequence to the race is annoying. I really don’t want to see any copy and paste in this game but it seems to be showing already.

I heard in other reviews that in this build of the game, the AI had an old training model and that its supposedly already been somewhat fixed but we will see. I REALLY hope they change the leveling system of cars to something like unlock any part you want at each level to allow much more realistic personal feedback changes with upgrades instead of a forced path of upgrades.

This game seems right up my alley. I love racing, but I don't have the time or energy to get into the hardcore simulators like ACC and iRacing. If it can provide clean racing and a simcade fell, I'm happy with it.

They said is a new AI but is the same garbage AI from Horizon 5. The rubber banded top 2 and the middle markers break checking you at the racing line. I am dissapointed because I really wanted to buy this game (top version) pre-release.

Great video! These will probably be covered in a future video, but my big questions at the moment are: 1) With the upgrade system changes does that make it hard/impossible to make a crazy build on a car you haven't driven before? Being able to buy a car, crank out a silly build, and try it online was a big part of past Forza games. 2) What kind of implementation, if any, is there to combat "meta" cars for online. That was one of the sources of the homologation system from FM7. I actually enjoyed that after they added the class lobbies back. Making more cars viable in races kept things from feeling stale. 3) The devs talked some big talk about way more realism and "ground up" rebuilds, so saying it just feels like Forza seems like they didn't deliver? Will you be elaborating in a future video?

Really curious what you'll think of it on a wheel, specifically the intro race in the (corvette?) apparently feels pretty good. With the controller, even set to simulation, they add a little smoothing to prevent from feeling too twitchy, at speed, etc. The main complaint Ive seen is that bigger, more slainted curbs dont provide enough feedback (the way a caster would behave).

Purely based on the gameplay footage, I don't think that this game was built "from the ground up". Maybe the menus were built from the ground up. Also, I have no idea why but whenever I see footage of this game it reminds me of project cars 3. That's probably not a good thing. I really hope its good though. I started on FM2 and own all the Motorsport games. Just feels like the studio lost its way in the Xbox One generation.

All the popups mid race would be extremely distracting. I hope there is a way to customize what I see during the race, or at least how I see it. I do like the gamification aspect of it, but they are using quite a bit of screen with lots of flashing colors to draw your eyes away from the race and towards the alert. Show me the car level changes and such when I go into the pits. Or when the race is over. Etc. Keep making the good content :)

14:30 one cool thing I spotted out: it seems they integrated real life star constellations because I can see what looks to be the big dipper. Also an indication that you're facing somewhere North, for Polaris (the North Star) is right above it

Thats Kyalami, which is in South Africa in the Southern hemisphere. Ursa Major would be flipped upside down and the north star would be impossible to see in real life so this isn't accurate

I'm honestly a little disappointed by this game from what I've seen. Personally I don't think they leaned enough into being a sim. Hearing that it feels like typical Forza is actually something I was hoping not to hear. Ultimately I'll try it out for myself through Game Pass, but it sounds to me like I probably won't play much of this one.

Forza motorsport was designed in such a way that you have to adjust the settings to get the more simulation type racing because the wanted it to be more approachable by casual gamers if you didn't adjust the setting you can't really assess how simulation it actually is.

Thanks Steve. We all need a modern day Forza title to deliver big time, but it just looks like a standard Forza to me. There doesnt appear to be much different to make it stand out head and shoulders above FM7, which was very average I'm sure most would agree ( well maybe apart from the most fanatical FM fans). The obvious thing to take from the gameplay as a viewer is that of the AI looking pretty underwhelming. Although, I did like that the AI doesn't just form a train around the circuit and seems to spread out nicely 3 wide at times during some sections of the race. BUT we need to talk about them race starts, OH MY DAYS, they are so bad. The AI appears to be completely unable to utilise any space on the track or be aware of what is around them. It wouldnt be fair of me to be critical of the handling or physics just watching you playing , but looks like there's that typical heavy steering and car body weight, weird body roll, but I understand thats probably just down to you playing on a controller. I take it this is on a Series X too, as the frame rate and visuals did look a little janky. Any idea if proper triple screen support has been included this time around on PC obviously? I just want a total motorsport title for all of us car enthusiasts and racers to enjoy, but it seems like the golden period of Forza (FM2,FM3 and FM4) is long gone and unable to return. I'm still interested, I want it to be good as a casual alternative to sweaty online racing, but this first showing has left me a little underwhelmed. Will look forward to future videos for sure.

I've seen videos of GT7 where it looks soooo good, and then other videos where it doesnt Look that good. Depends on the car and color. On one Hand i think the shiny Sun reflections on the cars Look cool in GT7 and make it Look much more spectacular. But on the other Hand it also looks a lil bit TOO shiny...it could be a bit distracting while playing? Gt7 car models is better their no questions about it, forza is also recycle cars in x360 era, cars have look as good in forza specially headlights looks much more realistic in gran turismo, enviroments and track detail can be a bit better in forza, but the car models is svar bring those great looking tracks down, gran turismo has also better lighting witch makes it look more photorealistic, forza look a bit more like game in camparsion

GT7 is almost brilliant. It severely annoyed me how there was zero choice in your starting position in any given race, or any way to affect your place on the grid. And the way the race doesn't start until you cross the line, so in a 20 car race you're already half a lap down??? Utterly bizarre... Good physics though, but not perfect. A lot of cars just seem to float around a bit but on the whole pretty good

Not baiting... You can see from the way the cars waddle round the track, and Steve said himself it drives like "classic forza". It's 'a balance between sim and arcade". If its that advanced, they should follow the codemasters/EA WRC 23 model: keep it sim and authentic, but create plenty of assists to make it more approachable for new players. Forza has always, always, always made cars feel super heavy. I thought for once they would have that sorted. Steve also mentioned the 'forza glitch', in terms of the way you handle throttle through corners. With the all-new physics, there's no reason why it couldn't be more sim-like in the way you drive it, if that's what you want... With the opportunity to make it more arcade-like through assists if you're new to driving games
