Akmu is made up of brother sister duo Lee Chanhyuk (the brother) and Lee Suhyun (the sister). They were the winners of the 2nd season of K-Pop Star and signed up with YG as a result, which has been their home ever sense. They have their own style. They tend to sing very ballad and soulful songs. I'm sure someone else can tell you a bit more about them. This song came out a few months after Chanhyuk came back from his manditory military service. I'm guessing their time apart also plays a part in this song, rather than maybe just a traditional love song. I could be wrong though. Suhyun did have a solo release called Alien. She also took part in another duo named Hi Suhyun back in 2014, with the other half being Lee Hi, who was the runner-up of the first season of K-Pop Star. They sang a song called "I'm Different" which features Bobby of Ikon (who I'm guessing you might be checking out in a few days). I still recommend Nakka, which has them featuring with IU. It is quite a bit different than this song but so amazing in other ways.

AKMU is real artists. Visual, music, lyric and vocal, all aspect are so beautiful in each of their music video. I would recommend you to check all songs from their album SAILING. The album was released after the brother CHANHYUK dismissed from navy so all the songs has the sea theme in them. I love all of AKMU songs and album but I think this is the most moving album for me. The most interest album with so many interest theme and genre of them to check is there newest album NEXT EPISODE- the full collaboration album of them with others artists. You may like these two album.

I'll help you understand the music video a little bit .. the release of Sailing album actually corresponds with the romance novel "Fish In The Water" that Chanhyuk also wrote . both the album and the novel were written during his military service in the marines ... the other female shown here (the one sitting on the deck of the boat and walking barefoot leaving blue footprints) is actually Hae-ya, the heroine of that said novel ... some scenes on this music video came from the novel so its a bit confusing especially if you didn't read the book .. the song "How Can I Love The Heartbreak, You're The One I Love" is in perspective of Sun, the male lead of the book .. a bit summary of the novel "Fish In the Water or Fish Meets Water" It's about a musician named Sun, he was struggling with his slump, so he stopped making music and traveled around the world to find inspiration.. he met a lot of ordinary and artistic people to understand what's the meaning of being a true artist.. he then met Hae-ya on a small cruise ship and fell love at first sight. Hae-ya is a bit of a unique character, it wasn't mentioned her true being and intentions . she also fell in love with Sun along the way of them being together. but through the later part of the book she jumped into the ocean.. as Hae-ya explained to Sun, it wasn't a form of suicide, it was to signify her true love for the ocean.. it was like coming home to the place where she felt truly belong. Track 7 "WHALE" described Hae-ya's love for the ocean Track 2 "Fish In The Water" explained why she jumped into the ocean Track 3 "HCILTH,YTOIL" Sun's real feeling when Hae-ya killed herself by jumping into the water Track 4 "Moon" describes Sun missing Hae-ya after Track 9 "Farewell" Hae-ya's real feelings when she's about to say goodbye to Sun (to everything) Track 5 "FREEDOM" definition of wanting to be a true artist Track 1 "Chantey" just a magnificent description of being in the ocean (it's actually a siren where mermaids allure fishermen into the ocean by serenading them) Track 8 "Endless Dream, Good Night" Chanhyuk simply wrote this because he felt seasick while serving in the marine ship for months Track 6 "Should've Loved You More & Track 10 "Let's Take Time" somehow Sun's love story with Hae-ya and Yang (another female character) all tracks from the album where in the novel. Sailing album is as deep as the ocean when you want to understand it. even after reading the book while listening to the whole album it's still complicated. I had to read the novel at least 3 times to understand some of it and find bits of easter eggs of songs from AKMU's previous albums

Only thing I can add is that their name is short for Akdong Musician. You asked if this was a good introduction. Well it showcases both their amazing vocals, lyrics, and artistry (geniusness), as well as being a great song, so yeah, I'd it's a pretty good introduction :)

I like your reaction and interpretation. This song is part of the Sailing album and all the lyrics and songs were written by member Lee Chan Hyuk in 2019. You can react and listen to their songs. And I recommend their latest album Next Episode and it's COLLABORATION ALBUM with a music video for the song.

I really love Akmu! This song is so beautiful, Chanhyuk is an actual genius when it comes to writing songs. Some other great ballady songs are Melted and Happening. If you wanna check out some of their more upbeat songs, I'd suggest their debut songs 200% and Give Love (the mvs follow on from eachother). Also Re:bye and How People Move :)

Fun Fact: AKMUs Lee Su-hyun was a Vocal mentor for the BabyMonster girls for which you did some reactions to. In the Last Evaluation Series, she was teaching them how to bring out the feelings and emotions in their singing. This was the song she used as an example of techniques to become immersed in the character of the song. This is such a passionate and emotional song. Makes me want to cry when I listen to it. I love the visual artistry as well.

I probably got all AKMU songs memorized to my bones. Some KPop songs, I don't even bother reading the english translation of lyrics, but with AKMU, their songwriting is just amazing and it always hits you in places you never expect.

Korean 'high concept' MVs can be hard to decipher because they're either just going for an impression or mood, or, alternately, the message is so particular and esoteric than only a dedicated fan would recognize it. This was the first MV the duo did after the brother had returned from military service in the Korean Marines where he had served aboard a ship.

For the longest time (almost a year or more), I have put away listening to this song (judging the sad title) ... But when I finally heard it 2 months ago, I was filled with unknown emotions I didn't know was possible to experience without falling in love real-life. AKMU has a VERY wide range of styles in their catalog. You'll find everything from bluegrass sounding pieces to jazzy ones to ballads. Suhyun even did a really good disco piece called Alien that is well worth a watch!

I am glad to finally see a reaction on the first part of the lyrics in this song. "A few steps back. Imagine your life without me. And realized that I can't leave you" This part made me cry so hard. It's even more sad that the second part of the lyrics said "I realized I can no longer move forward". So the blue represents the love. and the white represents the breakup I think. The first part they color the canvas with blue which means they realized how deep their love is. But in the second part, they started painting white over blue which means that the love is disapearing. She walks on the white sand but still remaining blue footprint. But as she walks, the blue footprint is fading out. Not sure if they finally decided not to break up, but the very last part of this song is saying the break up is the hardest moment since I love you.

If you like SuHyun's voice, you might want to check or react to her recent collaboration with Mamamoo Solar on Solarsido channel for a new challenge to change parts, in which she sang Mamamoo songs and Solar sang AKMU songs. It was a legendary collaboration in a non-stop live performance setup. In particular, Solar covered this amazing song with her own sensibility, like the magic she spelled in Solar Emotions, just like how SuHyun injected new lives to Mamamoo songs with her unique tones.

Dude it's his sister. Only problem I have is their love songs are great,but they are brother and sister. Suyhun is the Brest singer in YG. Especially since Lee Hi left. And I love Rosè. OK, I am sorry I am really late to this reaction. and I already saw you reacted to Suhyun with Rose covering Alicia Keys. I get it, when you only saw her once here, and a few months later you saw her without her brother. How could you know it was her. I love her voice, and sad she doesn't have the following of other KPOP singers. She is the senior member of YG artist, Senior to BlackPink but she is age wise, younger. she has been singing under contract since she was a teenage. such a great voice as a teenager and she matured so beautifully. Back to this song. you pretty much broke down the literal meaning of the lyrics and it is a heart wrenching song, break up songs when done well always pull the right strings. But this song has another meaning. . . to me at least. This song was released in 2019, and for some strange reason, AKMU go on hiatus for 14 months. It could have been a longer break as this song was visualized as a solo song for Chan Hyuk (the brother) but people around him suggest it be sung with Suhyun, and thus he had to input verses which she could fit in vocally. So yes, Chan Hyuk wrote and produced his own music, and this song This is a break up song, but I think it was there break up song, AKMU, if you think of it this way, the words mean so much more, how can they break up, when they can not break up as a brother/sister family. so they endure as long as they can, until they couldn't Like many duo/groups, after a break up, they do have reunions, and thus AKMU did reunite in 2020/2021 but they pretty much experienced a solo career. and you say Suhyun singing on Sea Of Hope and before this, she was touring with Begin Again Korea. which they went Busker all over Europe and Korea. such great vocals from all the artist male and female along with the musicians. you should really check it out if you like hearing great vocals, they sing in Korean but alot of the songs are English.
