IU has the highest viewership on killing voice 52M views. She is also the number one artist in Korea. It's hard to succeed if you're a soloist, and I'm not from a big, well-known agency but IU has succeeded and beat the biggest groups ,She’s tops the charts without promotions or new songs. She also won the Writer of the Year Award, I think you saw her words, as she does not write anything. She also won many major awards such as Album of the Year and others. We will not finish counting her achievements. She is also the most followed Korean female artist on Spotify, She is also the best actress, won many awards, acted with director Hirokazu Koreeda, and was nominated for Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival, she's called the national treasure of Korea

thank you ... so basically here's the context : there are 2 sides of kpop/ kmusic... (1)the idol group side --> international oriented, banger songs, usually dance songs, very flashy, backed by fandoms (2)the indie/ ost/ k - hiphop/ rap/ ballads / folks etc side ---> local oriented, variety of genres (Korean love ballads tho), for everyday listening, backed by general people/ casual fans in S.Korea actually, what people/ fans in west perceive as "kpop" is just number (1) , and SK citizens actually love (2) more than (1). Just few of idols who are widely known by general people in Korea. then we got IU, who got both sides : she's SUPER popular, but also very well loved by casual people. she's an idol (not in the sense of "idol group", but in the meaning of "idol fame/ personality"), but also a songwriter and artist.... Its sad that many new fans from west dont know who she is, bcs she's super successful in kpop/ kmusic. For example, all songs in this Killing voice is iconic and well known in public (maybe except Coin, coz its a coupling side of Lilac, coin peaked "just" in #4). And she can make one more Killing voice with her other hits, and still consist of only hit songs (= number 1 songs/ very well known songs)

IU is a digital chart monster in Korea, when ever she releases any song, she will smash all the local charts, doesn't matter whether it's released without any promotion or at midnight. IU is indeed the lyricist for all her recent releases, I believe she fully took over writing at the beginning of her 20s.. Hold My Hand, the song for encore in this video is written and composed by her at the age of 18. IU was born in May 1993 so she's 29 yrs old but her age songs were based on her korean age (which is +1) but she already celebrated her 14th debut anniversary back in September. The last song she sang 'Hold my Hand' is a kdrama ost (self-written and self-composed) released in 2011 but climbed back on charts in 2021 (due to a viral clip of her singing this song on her 2019 concert). I'll guess your faves were 'Autumn morning'- song she started with acapella and maybe 'Blueming' with the drums😊

With the exception of 'Every End of the Day', 'The Meaning of You', and 'Autumn Morning', she wrote every song you listened to. She has been effectively her own boss since she released the Chat-Shire album when she was 23 years old, and is considered one of the best songwriters in South Korea. Also, if you want to hear her belt, check out her biggest early hit 'Good Day' and her quite recent song 'My Sea'. The former brought her immediate fame; the latter has a very high and long note that she was able to get right on the first take. Though to be clear, she doesn't belt very much - her vocals are extremely dynamic and accurate and are less about impressing the audience and more tuned to telling the song's story.
