She was sick when she recorded this but she still did a great job. A lot of IU'S greatest hits were not included in this and her B-Sides are in a lot of cases just as good so I hope she gets to do a second one in the future

"Through the Night" was a critical and commercial success in South Korea, topping all the major music sites. The song has also enjoyed tremendous longevity; as of March 2022, five years after its release, it has never once fallen out of the major music charts in South Korea, being listed within the top 100 of the Gaon year-end chart every single year since. This last song was written when she was 18 years old

And IU is more popular than Bangtan in Korea. There is no Korean who doesn't know IU. Looking at the killing voice, 36 million out of 42 million views will be Koreans.

A nasal tone is one of the Jones IU uses, along with a more head voice and chest voice (Love Poem is one good example). As mentioned below on this day she was recovering from a head cold (which is one of the reasons why she is going to her water bottle after virtually every song). She debuted at the age of 15 with the song Lost Child, a very powerful song that was about a breakup and trying to forget the person but being unable to. The song was well received by critics but the public as it was deemed to be an inappropriate song for a 15 year girl. In 2008 (when she debuted) koop fans were expecting young kpop idols to sing more bubblegum type songs. The progression you say you are hearing has more to do with the fact that she took over complete control of she music in 2014 at the age of 22. When she started writing and. Composing most of her songs.. In the Killing Voice performance that largely starts with the song 23. Although her encore performance of Hold My Hand is the 1st song where she was to sole writer and composer and she wrote it in 2011 at the age of 17 for a kdrama The Greatest Love. She also sings many different styles of music from Jazz, R&B, Hip Hop, etc. All her MV are very deep and contain much symbolism and metaphors that help to the story she is telling. Everything in an IU MV has meaning. BBIBBI is perhaps the most complex of her MV's. If you watched the DKDKTV explanation video you got a good overview. But they failed to dig deeper to the use of color, outfits and staging. For an outstanding deeper look at the artistry of an IU MV I recommend watching Tors1e explanation video of BBIBBI. Your will never watch an IU MV the same again. She is quite frankly one of the best vocal talents in the world today. You have not even scratched the surface yet.

Tbh im not sure why people keep recommending the killing voice episode to new listeners. While its interesting to see the her perform those songs in quick succession, for IU standards its actually among the worst live perfomance she has just because she was sick that day, which make her voice sound very nasal/thin compared to how she sounds normally. There are literally hundreds of live clips which showcase her live singing much better. Among the best ofcourse are those from her live concerts released on her channel. Like blueming, hold my hand, rain drop etc

@@hineakmakera5794 She still sings well, but killing voice only introduced a fraction of her long list of songs, many songs that show case her vocal range doesn't appear in killing voice, plus they're not full song which doesn't do the songs justice.

Obviously it's only a very little appetizer... But personally, I really like her performances here! Her voice sounds so warm like she is wrapping you in a hug 🥰

Finally IU, loved your reaction! Yeah, agreed on the slight “nasal” tone, it turned out she had the sniffles that day, haha! Personal opinion, her full live concerts are to die for. The audience driven en-encores are fun given her extensive discography since 2008.

IU actually debuted the same year as Shinee, 2008, around 14/15yo. In Korean age you turn 2 years older on New Years, so she started the year at 23 but turned 22 during the year, so in all of her age songs she's actually younger. This is 20s themed because her Lilac album was a fairwell to her 20s. Twenty Three is from her first self-written album and basically she got full control because she was aging out of the innocent dream girl image her label created and a huge chunk of her fandom flipped when she finally became an adult and called out toxic fans. Turned out she's a great songwriter. She completely rebuilt her career, joined Kakao Entertainment where they made her own sub-label, and is arguably the top female soloist in Korea. Her 2021 song Celebrity earned her the hilarious title 'the only one who can beat B*S and BlackP*ink' because she surpassed them in google analytics after a year of them just dominating. She also holds several streaming/digital records with the Lilac album and songs.

IU is just good in all aspects, she is a singer, actress, songwriter, with a beautiful heart. I just have no doubt because she is the ideal type or role model of many idols.👑💖💜

Oh yeah! I saw you like blueming. You might want to watch her Blueming IU Live Concert 2019. It’s phenomenal. I would always play that clip instead cause I want to follow fan chants. Seriously you need to check that out. It’s a 360 stage. And she owns it by her own. She definitely the queen of Solo in Korea. Edit: you can find it in her IU channel. It have 63M view. Yeah. The technique she was using in her singing was so unique. And using her head voice or mixed voice plus the sincerity, it really takes a lot of talent to do that..

Yes queen!!! There is difference in vocalization when we make a sound between in English and Korean. English use more behind part of vocal cord to make a sound, and Korean use more front part of it. It makes a difference of speeking voices too. And IU is famous for using well a beauty of Korean langauge in her music and lyrics. She is very specialized on using a texture and sound of Korean words. So it can be familiar in korean's speaking tone but also sounds more 'nasaly' than western artist. (And that day she was in a cold too.. 😢) It just my aspects as a Korean so it's not like a professional view of it.! 😄 Thank u for watching her performances.

Her most recent album “Pieces” is such a good story about what she has gone through, if you like eight, you should definitely check it out with the lyrics and explanation. It’ll have you in tears she’s honestly a great storyteller, she loves deeply and through her voice and lyrics you can see it. Highly recommend😍!

The last song is one of the best songs to see live, you should really react to the live version of that and blueming. She has a great performance in seoul where she does a 360 degree concert in the Olympic stadium!! I think she is the only artist to do that and to sing for like three hours straight! We have the same first and second favorite songs. I fell in love with Bbi Bbi because it is just so unapologetic. She said what she needed to say and she was in a place in her career where she could get away with it. Plus, it's just a fun song.

Hi, thanks for the reaction! I really enjoyed seeing your perspective on her growth. I think you may have gotten some wrong ideas about IU as an artist while you were discussing Eight so I just wanted to clarify a few things. She actually debuted 14 years ago and has been at the top of the charts for 12 years. She has a very special relationship with her label, they have let her have free reign in writing and producing her own songs/albums since 2012/2013 and she is constantly changing her style of music. As the album's producer, she makes the decisions on what songs to release, who she wants to collab with, and what songs she will choose as singles, as well as composing many songs herself (palette is one of them) An example would be her album Modern Times (2013) which is jazz/swing and latin pop elements. I hope you don't think of her as one dimensional and only recently breaking the mold of pop idols, IU has been experimenting with sounds and writing deep meaningful songs for more than a decade.

Korean start counting ages 1 when he/she is born and gets 1 more on new year's day. so if a baby is born on 31st of Dec, he/she is two in the next day. The ages she's talking about in the video is basically -2 if you want to count it internationally.

Actually it isn't much about the touching or people getting excited upon seeing her that she was singing about, more so the people that make assumptions about her and her personal life, and the keyboard warriors that spew nonsense about her. IU is extremely friendly up close with fans, she is always ready to interact with her fans in person and would voluntarily do so. The one thing she has always been vocal about is the fact the public that creates rumours about her and the media that makes assumptions without knowing the full truth, and that is mostly what Bbibbi is about.

IU actually has been in the industry for 13 years already i think. And its true she has been given a lot of creativity freedom than any other idols or celebrity out there. This is mostly because since she first debut she was the only artist sign under her company. She literally has one company taking care of her and she got famous pretty quickly and she conquer the nations from all age layer with her singing, acting and generous heart.
