My First Time Reaction to Gary Valenciano - Spain

The song Spain was written as a jazz fusion instrumental by the great keyboardist Chick Corea. The legendary jazz vocalist Al Jarreau put lytics to it. Gary is singing the Al Jarreau version of the song, but with his own improvised solo. You've just witnessed one of the most remarkable jazz vocal performances in the last 30 years. I can see your identifying him as a theater guy because there was a lot of clean singing with very little vibrato; he also enunciates well. This is jazz all the way, though.

This is a Jazz cover. Gary is known as “Mr. Energy” in the Philippines bc of his high energy performances. He’s also a multi-instrumentalist. This is my favorite performance of his, nailed it!

It's obvious one of his influences is the late great Al Jarreau. He was even conducting his voice the way Al Jarreau used to. Jarreau would be another great classic artist to react too!

Damn Half Pint! I jumped out of my rocking chair and started dancing! He had to have had A LOT of training and work to sound that amazing. One song I'd LOVE to hear you react to is Playground Rocks by Zack Weber. The kid was 18 or 19 when he wrote the song, and the way he does the scat just blows me away.
