A great Canadian band. I'm an old lady and I just discovered The Dead South last year. Musically superior, great voices, tongue in cheek videos. They are rock/country/blues/bluegrass and very popular in Europe.

This used to be one of my go to videos that I had to watch at least a couple times week. It's been a while, so thanks for reminding me of it. I always loved how this video was put together... very creative concept. And the contrast between the fun of the video and the darkness of the lyrics really works well.

That was different, and fun; thanks Gitana! Suggestion, Home Free's rendition of "Man of Constant Sorrow" an old folk tune popularized in the George Clooney movie "O Brother Where Art Thou". You won't believe their creation was made without instruments. Home Free is all a cappella all the time across many genres, and they are phenomenal.

Start listening to "Bluegrass". I used to be in a punk band playing bass, then I moved to Colorado U.S. & started playing wash-tub (that I built) Bluegrass ( "Nice Marmot"). Nice conversion from punk to "Folk", to modern Bluegrass covers. Like Split Lip Rayfield, Old Crow Medicine Show, Devil Make's 3, etc. Nice crossover when you find your way. Miss my old band

I got into a music genre called southern gothic for a period of time and found The Dead South. Parker Millsap, Crooked Still, Ben Miller Band, The Civil Wars, Quaker City Night Hawks, The Builders and the Butchers, Shovels and Rope are a few southern gothic bands. Southern Gothic music is a mixture of the differing types of southern music (bluegrass, blues, country, southern rock) with the lyrics typically expressing tragedy/hardship.

Amazing women that made me love country music.
