about the "not that avi prone comment" in the video... yeah that bowl slides, even the steep skin track that's often put in slides. There's a reason you're not seeing lines in that bowl this entire season. The forecast still calls for Deep Persistent Slabs on ALL aspects in Revelstoke..
@riseandalpine Жыл бұрын
I agree with you. Any slope (especially above 30 degrees) should always be treated as 'avi prone'. Looks like a complex area to me! I didn't even notice he said that when I was editing. Thanks for flagging so people to get the wrong idea. Always check forecasts, assess snow and make your own judgements out there!

Such a great video!!! I'm thinking to go this winter there, but I have never done backcountry or avalanche courses. What takes to go the south bowl as you did? Is it necessary the beacon/shaver/rope? As a snowboard, can I just go waking or you felt it needs a split board? Are there any skiable bowl/alpine that does not need that knowledge? For example, in Whistler I could do the bowls but was not backcountry.
@riseandalpine2 ай бұрын
At Revelstoke there is really just the Greely bowl which is inbounds. Very different from all the controlled bowl skiing at Whistler. If you leave the bounds of the resort at Revy you 100% need beacon, shovel, probe a partner with all the gear and all the training. Anything off the resort can slide and kill you at anytime!

What are your thoughts on using a touring setup for resort skiing? Trying to decide my next setup and notice you have a setup similar to the one I want to get!
@riseandalpine Жыл бұрын
If you're going to use it a lot on the resort like I do I would run the Duke PT bindings, A Cast/Look Pivot system or classic frame bindings. You will have a very heavy setup but it will ride just like a resort ski, keep you from pre releasing and not wear down on your pins.
@davidcreighton-tu8ju Жыл бұрын
I have recently bought kingpin 13 touring bindings. I have never toured but thought it’s time to learn. Did you ski all runs inbound and out in tech bindings in this video. Just trying to figure out my limits with these bindings over my griffon 13 Mnc
@riseandalpine Жыл бұрын
I've got Marker Duke PT's. They've got a full resort toe-piece so not the same as riding a tech binding in bounds. However, I've got friends who often ski tech bindings on the resort. You can push those tech bindings super hard. It all depends on your weight/DIN and ski style so I'd recommend easing into it. If you're riding resort all the time in them you might risk wearing the toe pieces/breaking them faster. Let me know how it goes, I'm interested to hear.

Such a great video! Just very real and you guys were having so much FUN! Revelstoke seems like a great mountain. How is the terrain, vibe and access compared to Whistler/Blackcomb?
@riseandalpine Жыл бұрын
It was a blast at Revy. Vibe is more low key than Whistler and usually way less lift lines. The stoke chair is a high speed so you can get alot of skiing in. It has a great mix of terrain and the vertical is pretty unbeatable. Lots of super creative drops and natural features. Not as many intense chutes, steeps and alpine bowls as Whistler, but Whistler is just so damn big. Transportation there is harder, I mean you can't get any easier than the Vancouver airport and bus ride to Whistler. Backcountry access was super solid as well. Not as majestic as Blackcombs backcountry but still looked like a lot of gnarly lines.
