The next thing I saw Summer Glau in was Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles that aired between T3 and T4, but in-universe retconned the events of T3 away using time travel. Its events, unfortunately, were ignored by T4, but I consider it a much better continuation of the story following on from T2. Her character in The Sarah Connor Chronicles is obviously quite different from River, but it still makes extensive use of Summer's dance background in fight choreography. It's in one of those streaming limbos, though, so it might be hard to find legitimately.

Alan Tudyk/Wash is also in it but in a *very* different role, showing off some massive range, as well as some actors who were in Buffy, or who later showed up in Cabin in the Woods. It's only 2 seasons and I do highly recommend it, it has some interesting concepts.

My suggestion of what to watch next: 1. The Firefly bloopers reel (while the series is still fresh in your memory) 2. "The R. Tamm sessions" - viral marketing ahead of the film (5 short videos available as a single video) 3. "Serenity" the film.
@lepton4Ай бұрын
It has been so fun joining you on your Firefly adventure. Your reactions have been great. A couple things: Fox aired the show in a different episode order. Once the show was canceled, they aired this and then the pilot (Serenity) was aired last (a couple shows were never broadcasted on TV in the US) - we didn't see them until the DVD came out and in the order intended. So, this episode didn't hit us as the 'last one' until after multiple DVD rewatches. also, I think someone on the DVD commentary mentioned there is a nice symmetry with this ending as River formally asks Mal for permission to come aboard Serenity. When she originally boarded the ship - she was in the box. So Mal, has fully accepted her as crew and that always make me feel nice. Per the movie: it is so fun but, as I feel you are aware - it isn't a 'let's wrap up all existing story lines' movie but more ' let's see what's up with Serenity and her crew' a few months later for another adventure. Enjoy.

This one is my favourite. Early is so random and surreal. The episode is about River being accepted into the crew. If you can find the commentaries there are very good. Including one for this episode. 1:40 Summer Glau was directed to feel or experience the ship in this shot. 8:34 It was pointed out to Whedon, by his wife, how Early deals with each character in a specific way. Mal, Jayne, Zoe, and Book have to be taken out quickly, Simon is intellectual, and Kaylee likes the ship and engines. 11:29 For these shots Summer Glau was off camera reading her side 16:10 The cast had a running gag, every time someone messed up they would yell "Summer". At the end of a long take Summer messed up a line and Nathan Fillion yelled out "Summer" from across the set. 16:16 That ball is the same as the planet at the start of the episode. 16:49 Yeeeah... that feeling never really goes away...

Juble Early is crazy scary, and I mean that in every way! Even though it's the last, and it always makes me tear up when I re-watch it, I love this episode. It's got real stakes, but it's only really stressful in moments, not throughout the whole thing. It's got heart, because as soon as River saves the day, they knew she wouldn't do anything to harm her crew, and that includes leaving. But even though I know she's not going to leave, her speech about being Juble's bounty gets me every time. Anyway, I'm glad you loved the series, and I can't wait to see your reaction to Serenity!

I have lent my DVD sets to people, and they were taking a really long time watching them. When I asked, they said they had gotten so deep into the show that they were already feeling that fear of loss with knowing this is all there is, and they were trying to save the last few episodes to make it last longer and wouldn't be over as quickly. Regarding before the movie, there is an into video from Joss Whedon that they showed before some promotional screenings of the movie. It makes me feel inspired with how unlikely it was for the movie to even have a chance to be made at all. The intro is just a few minutes and could work fine edited onto the beginning of your Part 1 of the movie reaction.

"That sounds like something out of science fiction." "We live in a spaceship, dear." "So?" A good sign to the audience that even though it's a science fiction show, it's not "anything goes." So it's reasonable for characters in universe to not know about/not believe in things the show has like psychic powers, and it's a sign to the audience that we should call bs on more outlandish things like River's "I melted into the ship" explanation.
@jeffburnham6611Ай бұрын
That final episode is the reason there is a movie. So many Browncoats and their letter writing campaigns of support for the series, gave Joss Whedon the opportunity to pitch a movie to several large movie companies.

Jubal Early was based in part on a historical figure of the same name, a Confederate General in the US Civil War. He was partially deaf in one ear, which they used in this, it's why he misheard Simon a couple times. Early was also a white supremacist, as made clear by his writings after the war. I like the irony that they cast this black actor for the role, he plays him chillingly well. 🙂 I'm pretty sure Early was so chill about floating in space at the end because he has a "come get me" beacon that will bring his ship to him on autopilot - which is also why he was so concerned about River not touching any buttons, she might turn off the autopilot!

If you think of it, the thoughts that River hears at the beginning are things that are bothering people - the things that are in the back of their heads and they just can't get rid of them. Simon has no second thoughts about the choice he made (to abandon his career), but the sense of loss and injustice stays with him. Jayne is honestly bothered with what he did. Book is haunted by something he did in his past (so the "innocent" comment is not actually meant for River - it's something he said to someone else way back in the past). Inara wants to hear in from Mal. Mal is trying to suppress his feelings, believing it's the better "option". I have a theory that River's reactions are not really hers, but rather a reflection of everyones emotional state. She experiences their emotions - that's why she has such a strong reaction to Book - she feels his sense of guilt about whatever he did to that person he was talking to. So what we see on her face is not shock, because she read Book's thought - she is simply overwhelmed and scared when she experiences his guilt. It's very interesting to rewatch this scene with this theory in mind :) Also - Juble had intel on the crew and chose the best approach to deal with everyone. He said no word to Mal - just beat him. He used leverage on Simon, fear on Kaylee, force on Inara. What's interesting here is that he took no chances with Book - which means he saw him as a bigger threat than Mal. And the takeaway from this episode: "No one likes the idea of hearing what Jayne is thinking" ;)

Yes, The Message was the last episode filmed, so in the "in world" timeline, it would have happened later (also note that Jane's iconic hat never appears in any of the other episodes). When they chose the order of episodes for the "official order" for the DVD and/or syndication, they didn't want to end on such a downer note, so they designated this episode to be the last one in sequence as it provided a more satisfying feeling at the end.
@sirmoonslosthismindАй бұрын
@@bill.godwin-austen the show team actually made the decision a little earlier than that, and it factored into the way the last few episodes were edited. they even moved scenes between episodes to try to make it work in the newly designated official order. but yeah, they did make a minor continuity error with the "mind reading genius" line.

Hahahah aw sorry! I have so much stuff in the background. The opacity is lowered so i don’t get the video blocked for copyright 💜

I have seen/tried to see clips from other viewers that are much harder to see. Some are reversed, others have a heavy pattern overlay, and the worst cut off more than half of the images. This one is pretty visible, by comparison.

@@NythicalReactsI think you'll be OK. Other reactors seem to be able to show the vids without being blocked.

I understand I might be late with this, but you should watch *THE RIVER TAM SESSIONS* before the movie, as intended. 😅

Definitely watch "The River Tam Sessions." They were released online as part of the promotional ramp-up to the movie.

Sometimes I hear people ask why this was cancelled and agree. Then I see rewatches, and realize how heavily the show leaned into misogyny and Lost Cause mythology as *core* themes, and wonder how it could have gotten by without being cancelled. Like... in the end it leans into gender violence harder episode by episode than Law and Order SVU, and while it comes out on the right side of those issues I can't see it going on for another full season that way.

And all that you've seen took only six months to film.
