Sloth was played by John Matuzak who hailed from Oak Creek, WI. "Tooz" as he was often referred to, played 11 years in the NFL most notably with the Oakland Raiders where he was a two time Super Bowl Champion. He once picked John Madden up and bench pressed him three times. He also competed in the 1978 World's Strongest Man competition and finished 9th. He began acting in the late 70's, appearing in notable films such as North Dallas Forty and Caveman with Ringo Starr. He also appeared on several popular TV shows such as M*A*S*H, The Duke's Of Hazzard and Miami Vice. He's best remembered for his role as Sloth on The Goonies. Tooz died at the age of 38 in 1989 from an accidental overdose of the prescription painkiller Darvocet. He was also found to have a damaged heart from years of steroid use.

It’s THE decade to beat. Pure movie-magic like The Goonies, The Karate Kid, Ghostbusters, Indiana Jones, Back to the Future, Star Wars, E.T (the list truly goes on and on) EVERYTHING with Spielberg attached to it is just UNbeatable! The love, the craft, the heart, the charm, characters, GREAT stories, and the overall iconic movie-making on display is just unfathomable. All of that NetFlix BS-produced soulless crap now a days, truly is CRAP in comparison! We’ll never ever again receive such a beautiful time for films.. “Let me guess. YOU grew up in the 80s?”.. Well there's a reason they can't make movies like this now. Can you imagine the uproar if they did the truffle shuffle today. Every but hurt over weight fat person would be up in arms-

@@ChristianKrogh-Denmark They tried remaking Heathers. A few years back. It was a total disaster. Than they tried Remaking Pump -up the Volume. They took away all the edgy stuff that made the original movie good. And than disneyfied it. And it totally failed. Not surprisingly. Both the originals with Christian slater, still hold it's own, the new ones flopped

Miranda, have you watched Gremlins (1984) yet? when Chunk called the Sheriff, the Sheriff asked if it was about something that sounded like the movie Gremlins

Such a good old childhood favorite, glad you enjoyed it 🙂 Just in case you didnt know, its directed by Richard Donner who also directed Superman a fww years earlier, wich explains the easter egg when Sloth rips his shirt to reveal a superman logo t-shirt. Such a silly joke, but a good one

The kid playing Data, Ke Huy Quan, recently won on Oscar this year(2023) for Everything Everywhere All At Once. Another fun fact is that the actor playing Chunk, Jeff Cohen, is his real life entertainment lawyer and handles his contract for Everything Everywhere. And if you haven't figured him out either, the dude that plays Sam/Mickey's brother, Bran/Jeff Brolin is Marvel's Thanos and Cable in Deadpool 2. RIP Richard Donner. Dude always made sick movies, from Superman 1978(Which Sloth references with even the movie's score by John Williams when he rips the shirt open revealing the S) to Lethal Weapon. Goonies is one of those "comfy" movies for me to see especially during end of year like from Autumn like Thanksgiving/Christmas season, same with Die Hard etc. The Sandlot is more of a summer watch. Horror or teen spooky movies like Silver Bullet, The Lost Kids, Monster Squad, Fright Night etc are good also for October/Halloween season.

So glad you watched this movie and I also HIGHLY recommend Stand By Me, it’s a really great movie that’s also kind of sad at parts tbh

I think this movie ranks up there with one of my favorite . I was about these kids age when the movie came out; it reminded me a lot of me and my friends roaming South Mississippi when kids actually went outside

This movie popped on and the level of nostalgia I felt is almost a sad happy. There's music and specific shots that I can see or hear a second of and it brings me back. There's plenty of movies that give me the nostalgia feels but this is the King of it. So glad I got to enjoy this as a little kid.

Great reaction to one of my favorite childhood movies. I have been loving your reactions. You look and remind me so much of a good friend of mine from college many years ago. And a lot of your comments are the same things she would have said so I love seeing your stuff

This was my favorite movie growing up and still ranks up there for me. In my head canon Sloth and Chunk grew up together and went on adventures for the rest of their lives.
