Your animal all get,along I think it's because of your good nature too . I wouldn't let the cats deal with the rat . Rats are nothing to play with . Do your research on it . There not good to have around either they will infest your farm . One farm brought in a ratter they killed by Dogg's while they flushed the ratt wholes with water .thirty or more .he used several kinds of Dogg's another animal like a mink . Interesting to watch but not . Good luck .

I trained my dogs to come to a plastic whistle. sure saves me screaming . what about "Prince" for a rooster name? many loved that guy. I still can't get over how you can get ALL of the cats in at night, every single one of them. your the boss. Actually that is not to level out the ground , although you could use it that way. that is stabilize your unit if you are too close to an edge or soft ground. You will know when you really need it, lol Why are you not using the claw to grab those stumps when ready to come out......you are getting the hang of it.

Hello Chad I love your videos, they are so beautiful and you are so likeable😀, I have an idea if you want for Mama Pig, if you don't have space in the stable you could build her a small hut in the summer and make a small enclosure in the meadow, like that She can also eat the grass and become a little fatter again. I myself come from Sweden and also have a few large pigs and they love to eat grass in the meadow in summer. Kind regards from Sweden😃👍

Cats aren't actually good at hunting rats, specifically. Rats are big and have a lot of fight in them, so the cats might not want to hunt them. If they do get in a scrap, rats are pretty good at protecting themselves which means the cats might get hurt and catch something nasty during the fight. This is why people bred terriers (e.g. the Rat Terrier) to deal with rats on farms, factories, and households. I'd look at another method, as long as it's not poison, as cats (or dogs) might eat a dead poinsoned rat. I had a sweet outdoor cat that probably at a poisoned creature and it didn't end well.
@HiddenSpringFarm
@HiddenSpringFarm 6 ай бұрын
Yeah you could be right, I’d say it depends on the cat. I definitely never use poisons either. If not the cats will at least catch the young rats and I’ll have to set some traps when Big Red the rooster can rejoin his flock. Cheers.

@HiddenSpringFarm
@HiddenSpringFarm 6 ай бұрын
Well bentonite can be laid but not sprinkled in the water that won’t work. It needs to be spread evenly and fairly thick like 12 - 14 inches otherwise it’ll leak. It needs to be dampened and compressed to do it right.

I found this channel recently, and I absolutely love it! It's so wholesome it makes my heart melt. I live in the swamps of Louisiana, and our rats can get pretty large. Once, my boyfriend's cat caught a rat that was about 2-3ft long (tail included). He brought it into our house, and we had to chase it out with a broom, haha. You may want to put 2 or 3 of your best hunters in the chicken coop when it's rat-catching time.

Hey Chad, we live in the country on a mountain side in Maple Ridge BC. The lot is 4 acres three of which is giant redwood trees…I am quite frightened of rodents. I learned from another You Tube Channel that rodents have no mechanism to relieve themselves of flatulence. If you make a mix of 1/2 cornmeal & 1/2 baking soda. The gas builds up inside them and they die. What I like is that this mixture will not harm their predators. I got some plastic containers and put the mixture in. I added a bit of peanut butter. 1Tbsp. Mixed it into the cornmeal mixture. It seems to have helped. Certainly worth a try. I’d pour some down the rat holes… We have two Sheepadoodles. Our female Roxy had a planned litter last Oct. we kept one of her sons, he definitely has a stronger sheepdog gene. Your dogs remind me of our male.

We had mushrooms for years, after every rain :) The tree was, unfortunately half dead and very close to the house and I was afraid of the next big wind storm.

Love your videos Chad. Check out The Last Homely Garden on KZbin. It is Kate Jackson’s channel and she hired a handy man to put in a wildlife pond using a liner. Similar size to what you want I think. We have an 8 year old ginger neutered tom cat called Gaston. Best rat catcher in the neighborhood and he has caught some big ones. Likes to eat them too 😖. Sometimes he leaves us the whole rat, or a head or innards. He’ll go up on the roof and catch bats. Doesn’t like the taste of those.

I watched a bit, definitely different than what I’ll do…not sure why they framed it with wood. Plus she used a pvc liner which is far less resistant to uv rays. I ordered an edpm liner which is a thick rubber. Either way was long as most of it is covered the sun can’t touch it and it’ll be fine. I’m sure hers will be beautiful too. Gaston sounds like a killer 🔪

🇦🇺Have you ever thought of putting an automatic chicken door on the cat enclosure? You can adjust the time it opens and closes or turn it off.

I had a wolf rat caught in a trap and my cat attacked it and they fought! We heard it in the big barn - all the animals were alerting us- went out there and our cat didn’t want any part of that huge thing! Poor thing- my husband had to do something but man yeah- they’re huge. We have caught a few opossums in our hen house areas and just took them further out to the woods and set them free- they’re amazing animals..

Rent a stump grinder

Because I’ll be building a small duck pond in the area I wanted to remove the whole stump. I could use a stump grinder I’m many spots around the property, once I have dozens of stumps a rental would be good.

Hey Chad, Just want to share my experience on the pond thing. My liner lasted about a week. Plants made it about an hour as they were eaten. Ducks and what appears to be a common sense approach don't mix when it comes to ponds. Unless you put a serious amount of 20mm stone on the liner with a gradual slope I can't see the liner work. Going the other way with clay which is what I did, the 20 x 20 pond becomes 30 x 30 in about 12 months as they eat into the bank. Thats fine if you leave enough space around it. I have a spill off into a ditch also and that helps here for replenishing from the rainfall. We get plenty of rain on the west coast of Ireland.. Just a couple of things I though I would share with you to think about. best of luck with it.

I do appreciate the info.how did the liner last o my s week? Did they eat into it? I already have the liner though, it’s a 45 mil edpm rubber liner. I may be too far into it as I have the liner, waterfall filter and pump already been delivered. The fact that they dig into the bank doesn’t that ruin the clay seal? I did have a plan for a single entry slope covered with river rock and stone all around the edges. I’ve built a koi pond like this before but I didn’t have ducks ruining it either. I’ll give it go though 😉

We have clay soil or daub as we call it. It’s like mastic 😂. The liner didn’t work because I didn’t put enough stone in there and I didn’t grade the slope enough. The water table effectively lifted the liner like a hot air balloon. But your soil looks like it drains well so probably not so much of an issue. You know how much they make a mess so no doubt you did your research.. mine are like mini excavators getting into everything. I spent €100 on special plants that I was told were duck proof .. just do a test first before you splash out on the plants.. it’s too expensive to just go at it 100%. Mine hang out around the pond most of the time which is good until I start cutting the lawn which is across a busy road.. they stop the traffic on a regular basis. Can’t wait to see what it turns out like.. now that spring is definitely in the air.. another season to look forward to. Best of luck from across the pond Chad 👍🏼
