Yeah on REALLY WET DAYS like today & yesterday we in PA have WET DOG DAYS. I got my dogs used to the cool, low Hair Dryer setting at first. Now, i use the heat setting at 2 feet away from the dogs fur & skin. And NOW, they see the hair dryer & roll over for their wonderful Spa-Dry Day. It’ll dry the thick fur in less than 10-15 minutes. (Of course, they go out & get all wet again & the whole Spa treatment begins again. My dogs ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE HAIR DRYER.

Thank you for NOT blaming our unusual WEATHER as "climate change"! All weather changes over the years and decades. When Texas experiences SNOW affecting their solar panels and energy expect the unexpected when it comes to weather. I remember brittle cold and snow growing up in upstate New York and horrid heat waves in the summer with drought, we survived. Yes, rain make mud, but don't worry the cold and snow is on its way. God Bless.

Yes! I think it was in the 90s, all the talk was that the earth was heading into another ice age & Hollywood made a movie showing New York literally freezing over. Now, we're going to burn up! It's called "weather cycles". Been happening since the beginning of time.

Today we got another 15-20 cm snow, so it's starting to look like the winters I remember from my childhood. I live in (the middle of) Sweden and according to the news, we haven't had a snowy winter like this since 2012. Hatched out my own ducks for the first time this year Chad. As I have about 4 different breeds I have no idea what I have now but they should all lay come springtime. 2 Kune Kune girls going fast and 2 rescued ponies just because they deserve a better life. Love the sound of the rain on the tin roof of the claw crew house! Brings me back to my childhood, in west central Wisconsin. A friend a long time ago called this kind of day “a deep grey day,”. And when my children were young, I would bake on these kinds of days. There is something special about coming in from the cold, and entering a kitchen redolent with scents of cinnamon and other spices. Happy New Year, from the southmost tip of Texas, where the 🌴 sway gently in the warm breeze!

I would make cinnamon rolls from scratch, too. When I got married, I asked my Swedish grandmother for her recipe for Swedish pancakes. She had no recipe, so I watched her make them, and wrote down the recipe. Which sounds good, except that she used an honest to goodness tea cup, and a tea spoon for her measuring utensils. So I had to figure out the actual measurements. Her last ingredient was ‘enough milk to make the right consistency!’ It took me 11 attempts to get it right! I have been using that recipe for the last 50 years! Good food from the kitchen is like nothing from the store!

It’s a fair point, I’ve been trying to find him a new home for months now. The trouble with rabbits is two things really…you can’t have a boy in with the girls cause you’ll have babies every 30 days and you can’t keep the boys together either cause they fight. I did have 4 boys together and 2 died from stress of fighting so that’s how this single rabbit ended up in the barn alone. I’m working on it though.

Yes that’s what I considered also…the economy and inflation could very well be the reason.

Maybe you need to raise your roosts above the nests
@HiddenSpringFarm
@HiddenSpringFarm 6 ай бұрын
Some are level with the nests and some are higher, our Light Sussex have never laid on the ground with the same setup. Maybe depends on the breed? Interesting though might be something to experiment with.

Love your videos of daily life on the farm. What about harvesting pigs , preserving and selling lard. Slavic people would buy all of it. Here in US we pay $20 a pound of preserved lard (salted and seasoned).

It’s a last resort. To be frank I feel like I’m not ready for that yet. We would love the meat and lard ourselves too just need to learn a lot more about it and have the right setup.

For a clear covering you can try vapor barrier, 8ft wide roll . Works well for me vs finding a clear tarp.
@HiddenSpringFarm
@HiddenSpringFarm 6 ай бұрын
I thought of that too but my vapour barrier is 10’ and the high side of the roof is 11’ so it would be too short, at least the tarps have grommets too. No big deal really.

@@HiddenSpringFarm I don't know if does but I suspect that it's going to change the dates or schedules we would normally be use to over past years. I think that our time change of daylight savings is making me SOOO confused cuz it's so dark so early.

That breed of pig is not ideal, unless looking for a pet. Slow to grow ,small, and as a lard breed not much meat but lots of lard. Kunekune is similar but reputation of great flavor and friendly breed. The pet pig industry is pretty small lol
@HiddenSpringFarm

Yes agreed and we got the pigs to keep as pets. The farm stay guests really enjoy the pigs and the piglets this year was a great experience. You’re right though you’d have to try to fatten them up first more than a year to get 100lbs. They are one of the smallest breeds. I like the kune kunes but they’re very expensive too. If we were to get a meat breed I’d try to get the kune kune cause they’re not really that big also compared to other meat breeds.

Then one foggy Christmas eve Santa came to say this song was created in 1949 Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer you and I weren't even born then and it says foggy Christmas Eve not snowy so we weren't born then we have to think about this if it was foggy then and not snowy so there is changes in the weather every hundred of years. Just saying it will be okay

What has never happened in your lifetime? That your neighbor had horses right there in December? Weren't you alive in 2000? Temperatures went above 70 F in Ontario on December 27 2000, and over 75 F that same day in Ontario in 1972. Just how old are you exactly? Check the farmer's almanac before you say things about the weather, and stop with climate hysteria.
