31st October and 1st Novembr Kalipuja is there in West Bengal. If you come here that time then try to visit Barasat it is in North of Kolkata and 30 km distance. What you would see there , promise it will be in your memory for ever. Huge lighting, pandals and Goddes Kali Idols.

instead of taking taxi..while going to Victoria from kali temple, you should have taken metro...easiest and cheapest rout...and almost no journey...

It's better to take help from native locals(trusted ones, maybe via online) before going to a place for a comfortable journey. 1. Due to the proximity to the Coast, Kolkata is generally humid apart from the pleasant winter season. The best time to visit the city of Joy is definitely Mid November - Mid February(lots of Siberian birds too visit Bengal & other parts of India during that time as Siberia freezes badly). Durga Puja is definitely the main native festival of West Bengal, it's a heritage. 2. A lot of app cabs run flawlessly in the city, like uber, ola etc. Also WBTDC (govt.) has different tour packages. 3. If you are a nature lover, then come during winter, visit the world's largest delta Sunderbans and the queens of hills, Darjeeling (visit orange & tea farms, a toy train ride, sunrise from Tiger hills, view of India's largest peak Kanchanjungha); also visit nearby Lava, Lolegaon in West Bengal. Better to go with a reliable travel agency or group tours for comfort & safety as you don't know much about those places. Please make sure that you learn about a place from a knowledgeable native.

Welcome to Kolkata my home town! People are friendly here if possible do visit north bengal & Darjeeling side as its not that humid comapred to kolkata. Also during durga puja time it will be crowded, but if you stay in nov dec jan feb the temperature would be ideal, not much humidity

You should have taken the Metro from Dakshineshwar station(it was just on the skywalk under which you were walking) to Rabindra Sadan station(the station you went). It would have cost you only 20 rupees and 30mins in metro.
