You are amazing! 🌻 A 50k is no small feat, and trail 50k at that!!! Well done! I'm Eileen N. from NC, I'm 45 years old. I am going to run my first marathon in the Spring 2022. I started trail running last year, and I'm in love with it! 💕The older I'm getting the more I'm interested in 1/2 and full marathons. Maybe one day I can train for a 50k, too!

Ok…. Now, this is what I call REAL inspiring! No hyper-edited BS….. just a REAL person doing something REAL. This is what I’ve been looking for. I’m 51, ruptured a ligament in my wrist so I couldn’t run my first 50K last year (at 50). Training for my first one this year. Thanks for the great motivation! Dr. Dave

I appreciate that! My goal was definitely to be real, the good, the bad, and the painful. You can do it! Just remember it is a lot of time on feet...and you really do have to practice fueling!

Congratulations! I completed my first 50K a few months before my 50th... I had a similar goal as you. Preparing for the next one. My favorite part was what you said at the end: "It's not just 5 more miles. It's like 3 more hours. So that's legit." Nice job. Keep running...
@JessicaReynoldsRunning3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it is crazy how much more time you just keep running in these ultras! Congratulations on completing your first too! I will be with you training for next! Thanks for support!
@danflowers85843 жыл бұрын
Your awesome ! As an ultra runner myself having done my first 100k 25 years ago please accept this advice. Walk often and early from the start. You will best your PR. Just the way it is sister. Forget about the typical runner ego (not a REAL runner cause I walked for some spells). I walk 30 seconds every 3 min on ultras. I finish tired but strong always. Keep at it, you have huge potential.
@JessicaReynoldsRunning3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much. Yes, I have been working walking into my training much more and have made peace with it. I am excited and nervous for the 50 mile race, but definitely plan to walk!
@paysonbiker3 жыл бұрын
I enjoyed watching this! I felt your emotions, the pain, the frustration, the euphoria. I ran my first 50k a couple months ago. I’m CONSIDERING a 50-miler late spring. The 50k taught me to walk the uphills if they’re hard at all, and eat more than I feel like eating at the aid stations. Stay hydrated by drinking water and getting plenty of electrolytes. The dill pickles, bacon and coca-cola at our aid stations were the bomb!!! Anyway, congrats and thanks for sharing this!
@JessicaReynoldsRunning3 жыл бұрын
Okay Wade, you can do it! But, a 50 miler is no joke, it will be the longest time on your feet in one day ever. It is hard. I just did it and I struggled. I am so happy I did it, but choose your race carefully (aka HILLS). I believe in you, GO!

I bought my Garmin in February, turned 55 in March, and have run 2 10K races since. Thanks to stories like yours and Mark Lewis', I now know that the title "endurance runner" is something i can wear with pride, even at this late start in life. Great job, Jessica.
@JessicaReynoldsRunning2 жыл бұрын
I still don't know if I am an ultra runner! But at least I know I have run ultras. It is a huge thing, and no matter what, we all need to be proud of every run (even the bad ones).
@RussellStrosnider2 жыл бұрын
@@JessicaReynoldsRunning I heard someone recently say that giving yourself a title can help with motivation. especially when you are trying to reinvent yourself. I used to be a "GAMER'' with thousands of hours sitting in front of the computer. But then I decided to become a "RUNNER" and haven't looked back. New clothes, thinner waistline, and a couple of finisher medals proves I am a runner. Not a very fast runner.... but still a runner. So once you have competed in two ultras, you should be officially an endurance runner. keep up the good work and keep the videos coming.

I’ve taken a couple of bad falls, once your legs get tired it’s all to easy. You have to work on kicking your legs up behind you, and take extra care / show down on any tricky bits. I find poles really help. Six hours is a very respectable time.
