Great progress! I would suggest if you are going to stain the walls to use similar color to the stands so that the stands ‘disappear’ and the focus is on the tanks. I think darker background color behind the tanks will also help with filming. Try an oil based primer (cover your tanks for VOCs) like Kilz to hide the stains for the door to the bathroom and exterior door and then repaint . Keep up the great work!

You need to seal the plywood and when you talked about the white wall brown posts and plants I thought that would look amazing. And REALLY bright! Also there are many types of plants you can have in your tanks to help clean the water - which I am 100% sure you already new about. But you could get some LED grow light strips (you can get white ones they don’t have to be pink) and place them along the outside edges of the roof for the plants and it will really bring the room alive. Oh I love it 😍

Def. paint the walls white and the pillars brown. It will look so good! Also remember when you paint the walls you need to fill in the screw holes with probably wood filler since it is a wood wall and then sand the filler down when it cures and then paint the walls. It will look so much better with it all painted. 👍🏼

Ryo your room is looking amazing. My recommendation is paint the ceiling a ( gun-metal color ) it will look industrial and won’t be as dark as brown. Do not use Eggshell paint ... Use “glossy paint” So it won’t get dirty , paint the beams gun-metal color As well as the doors glossy paint ( gun-metal Color too ). No need to replace the doors try the gun-metal color paint and see what you think. The walls I recommend a light dark grey so it contrast and makes the space feel bigger and airy. If you want to make the place feel earthy you can always add some wall art. Either way good luck with the build ‘ P.s glad you left the beams !

I think staining the wood a dark color would be a good option, maybe with some cream colored or black beams? But i also think your idea with white walls and brown beams would be great. Definitely paint the ceiling white, to brighten things up. Before you start staining, i'd suggest that a lighter colored room not only looks brighter, but it also feels a lot bigger, and a lot more open and less "heavy", than a room with dark walls. :) I don't think leaving the wood as is, would look very good either way. :) Might i also suggest that you go to the home center, and pick up some cheap shelving for all your uncles car parts. Having them organized against the back wall would be a nice thing to do for him, it would also look less messy. Best thing i ever did was invest in shelving for my garage and all my parts. Also, totally incidentally and completely not an agenda at all, it would also open the room up more, giving you more usable floor space, that could be taken up by, oh i don't know, more fish tanks? XD Or at least it could give you a more open space in between the ones you have. :)

Ok. my idea and vision is different from the rest. lol. Soooo, I LOVE THE METAL BEAMS. Please keep them all. This is Ryo's EPIC Fish Room. No gray, or black. White is nice. I think keep the metal beams the dark shiny green color. It is actually natural and beautiful! I would either do white, or cream colored walls, or even a pale green. Green IS your favorite color. My bedroom walls are pale green and I love them. Your mini studio has it's own look, the light natural wood and white. It is perfect. But this room is INDUSTRIAL. Which is unique! And super cool. It is ageless. Unlike other places that do gray and modern; those will age and go out of style. If you work with the unique qualities of this room, it will last forever. So cherish its industrial vibe. Dark green shiny metal beams and all. And paint the walls cream or pale green. That's my take on it all. It is gonna be GORGEOUS!!!
@LeilaSoleil3 жыл бұрын

Paint the walls Ryo, it will protect the wood from moisture from the water from tanks. Otherwise, you could get some swelling. In lew of paint use a wood oil if you want the wood look.
@cinnamonsparrowdesigns3 жыл бұрын
What about staining the walls same as the racks, then painting all the metal an oil rubbed bronze/dark brown color and it'll give it a cool industrial look. Then with all the plants you want to hang and the planted tanks it'll give it the natural vibe you want. I think staining the floors or adding some type of flooring would be cool even. One of my fish stands is darker stained wood with metal pipe legs spray painted that bronze color I mentioned and it looks so good with my natural scaped tank. Regardless what you choose it's looking good so far! You moved fast with this project!

If you stain the plywood the stain will absorb at different rates so you will have light spots here and darker spots there. Plywood is basically scraps of different types of wood, pine will soak up stain quickly as where oak or any type of hard wood will soak up the stain so much slower. Please talk to the people at you home center, I'm sure they will agree. I would paint it a light tan. It would give the warm feeling your after and it will look nice with the green metal work.

@mildnomsed3 жыл бұрын
Ryo, I think you will need to paint the plywood. Either white or some kind of varnish/preservatives. It's a fish room with high humidity. Natural wood won't last long as raw wood. If you decide on clear varnish, you may want to fill the screw holes with wood filler, it will look much much nicer... 👍🏻😊❤
@richanthony29143 жыл бұрын
A nice deep natural stain, BLACK painted beams and replace any struts / screws with shiny silver (metal) new ones. Don't want too much light bouncing around. You want any excess light to be absorbed. I say black beams bc when you think about storage for rocks and wood, the nice stuff is black.

The best fish rooms and professional aquariums I have seen, are blacked out. Everything is uniform. Forces your attention on the fish and tanks. Makes you feel underground and a in different world. Painting walls contrasting colors with the beams, different colors for ceiling, different color tank stands stained. Way to much going on. All black. Everything matches. Gives off that whole Zen feeling. This is one place you want to abandon all traditional interior decorating design.
@RyoWatanabee3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the advice :) I really dislike black rooms though. I hate the dark feeling and it also makes the room feel small. I’m going for a minimalistic look. White walls, white ceiling and brown beams. Definitely doesn’t seem like that’s too much going on. Oh yeah, all the attention doesn’t need to be on the tanks. I want the room to get some attention too. Look at the ADA gallery in Niigata Japan for example and also Adam Paszcela’s ADA Idea studio. Those are two of my favorite aquarium rooms
@wigglewiggle37893 жыл бұрын
I would look at what are the best colours for filming as well a gloss, semi gloss or matt paint. Personal I would do a matt finish on all surfaces for glare when filming. The other thing is darker colours will make the room feel smaller. But you may want that. I would do the walls a lighter gray. The metal posts a slightly darker gray and the ceiling white. Get a paint that can be easily cleaned as well. Get some sample colours and do some patches on the wall and see how they look through the tanks and especially on camera with lights. I would paint the ceiling first. Clean it really, really well. If they have a product called sugar soap in Japan use that. Excellent for cleaning. Install the ceiling lights then have a look at the room und e r full light. That may very well lead you what colour to use on the walls when under full light. Especially for filming.
