Notes from Brazil: "Brazilian cherry" from the looks of it is what we call pitanga. Jatobá is a beautiful enormous forest tree which gives large pods with a green flour in them. We enjoy green pigeon peas cooked in rice with coconut milk That way you don´t need so many of them! No one cooks dried pigeon peas here- they are just too hard! But the chickens love them, of course. Three pigeon pea leaves in a glass of hot milk with honey is a popular cough remedy- and it is delicious! Dried cassava leaf meal is an excellent vitamin/mineral supplement. Just use a little of it when you use seasonings like cilantro. It actually tastes good!. Once dried it is no longer toxic. We love tithonia for chop and drop (and, dried, as chicken chow) Say hi to Geoff for me! (Marsha )

In Zambia we pound the cassava leaves, boil for about 3 hours and add tomatoes, onions and a generous amount of palm oil. Best eaten with beef stew or chicken curry.

Comfrey is the gift that keeps giving even if you dig it up any tiny bit of root will regrow. First time I used comfrey leaves under potatoes I even had plants growing up from the cut leaves. I now dry it thoroughly before I use it uber tomatoes and potatoes etc. it also stores well dried to crispy. I have been using it for 40 years 😊😊😊

15:47 talking about comfrey leaves... one reason I love it so much in my food forest, and I make so many videos about it, is because of what you are talking about here. For anyone that wants a deeper dive on it, I fell in love with comfrey after reading a research paper on a chemical analysis of it's liquid tea manure (super easy fermented liquid fertilizer), which I will link in a comment below (in case youtube blocks it, which it sometimes does with external links).

What about planting your bush turkey-vulnerable plants in a walk-in cage? Unless Bush turkeys can open doors, your produce would be safe. The cages are quite tall. You could even line them with welded wire to keep rats from digging into the area from under the ground. I use a walk-in chicken cage for my brassicas. It's 25 feet by 6 feet. Good luck!
