I gave 2 pieces as pasalubong for my friend from Versailles, France and he absolutely loved it. If a French loved your pastry... believe me, that's high praise. Apart from the fresh fruit itself and when used in savory dishes, I'm not a huge fan of coconut flavored desserts. This pie however, is more than exception. I would gladly eat the whole pie. It was beautifully described by Mitch. It tastes like super fresh coconut that you just scraped off after drinking from the fruit in wonderfully flaky and light pastry and it isn't super sweet like you would expect a pie. The sweetness comes from the fruit.

Mike you are indeed an Adopted Filipino. You have endeared yourself to the Filipino by knowing so much about the Philippines and even little ins and outs, just as if you were raised as Filipino and now, so proud that you have began to speak the language as well.

Nelly should try a new topic -- "Learning to Cook Filipino Dishes" -- where Filipino cooks (as Guest Instructors) are her teachers There are cooking tutorials on KZbin, but all are in TAGALOG or a Tag-lish mix. Nelly will have the FIRST tutorial in ENGLISH. Of course, Nelly should show the RECIPE which can be copied by the viewers. Many Filipinos do NOT understand Tagalog well -- and would appreciate the English tutorials.

I would really recommend the Nueva Viscaya's buko pie. Best in the north, arguably best in the phil. A lot of my friends that liked tagaytay buko pie was converted to it. I can guarantee that it's the best! The name is "G&B special buko pie" or "Joys special buko pie" both tastes almost the same. Please try it out! Not to discredit the tagaytay buko pie, it's good and fluffy but compared to G&B or Joys, it's night and day.

If I were you Mike, I'd start taking picture of those Filipino words you see at the restaurant, and when you get home find out what they meant, study it, why are they there placed in front of the restaurant, etc...in the first place! So, at least next time you encounter these words, you know what they are meant to you, the reader, customer, buyer! You're in the Philippines for so long now, at least, learn these basic Tagalog words, I'm sure it would help you navigate through life in Manila (especially!), and also that's where you live! Cebu and Davao, might use the Visayan, English, Tagalog mix but it's all about welcoming, if not, entice you to their place of business, whether restaurants, bakeries, or coffee shops, surf shops, sari-sari store, etc... Salamat po! 🙂
