Rohanna F for real you aren’t free to slaughter innocent people because of bad home life. Most people those situations don’t commit mass murder
@abhyajha84014 жыл бұрын
@Mr. Brodie Agreed. It's not the parents fault, of course. The dysfunctional family might have played as a catalyst in his ultimate downward spiral but that doesn't justify his crimes. Who knows he might have killed even if he had a perfectly normal family. However I still believe there was some clear negligence, not just from the family but also from the people around him. There were some pretty clear warning signs that he was not on the right track but they were ignored by everyone. If they had noticed then maybe the number of victims would have been lesser then they are. Bullying, early fascination with cutting the skin off of animals and dysfunctional family isn't an excuse for his crimes but it sure gives an insight and explanation into his twisted mind.

Warning, this is kind of a disturbing story: I had a friend when I was a kid who was a few grades older than me. I think I was in grade 3 and he was like grade 5 or something. He was kind of a terror sometimes to other people, causing these occasional wild outbursts just to piss people off and laugh at the chaos. I liked him though because he was really nice to me and would always include me, a younger loner kid, into his friend group. His friends seemed pretty normal in general. I’d go to his house and we’d play various normal kid games in his yard. One day though, we were walking by an old broken fountain in his yard. I noticed it was filled with clean lizard skeletons, so I asked him about it. He told me that he sometimes liked to burn live lizards with matches and sometimes use whatever combustible liquid he could find and just watch them burn to death. I was a kid so I didn’t think that much of it really. Later that Christmas I got a home science kit for Christmas (I was really into science back then). It came with test tubes, a microscope, glass slides, dull scalpels, etc. My friend saw these and was like “We should experiment on a lizard!” So I went with it and we went to my yard, caught a lizard and dissected it completely while it was still alive. Even found out that is was bearing eggs. As a curious child I found it kind of fascinating, the inner workings of a living creature and whatnot, but I was also slightly uncomfortable and sympathizing vaguely with the lizard, even though I hadn’t entirely grasped empathy yet. After he left my house, my mom and older sister immediately found out what we did. I didn’t hide it because I didn’t know at the time that it was wrong. They explained to me how horrible the act was and how the lizard must have felt and I ended up crying my eyes out for hours out of pure guilt and realization. I never hurt an animal again after that. The following year though, my friend moved away and I never heard from him again. I don’t even remember his last name and have no idea where he could be. This movie disturbs me especially because I always once in a while look back at that friend and wonder... I know it’s normal for children to be curious, but that’s on a different level of curiosity, but I learned from that one mistake and he seemed to feel nothing from it. Am I gonna see him on the news one day? Lolll

There's nothing wrong with that... People shoudnt be telling a child what they should be interested in...
@kris2424 жыл бұрын
Kro Tv the basic idea of development is learning wrong from right, especially when it comes to morality. If a child never learns that it’s wrong to kill, particularly in the sense of victim vs. victimizer, they have a harder time understanding the difference when they get older. In the case of Dahmer, this lack of understanding fed into his further mental health. Developmental psychology is an extremely important science and proves foremost that lessons at a young age highly resonate into later years.

I'm not interested in films feeding on sensation, or depiction of gruesome acts. This film is concentrating on eventual cause or process of Dahmer becoming a killer. It's quite fair in my opinion. It doesn't give you ready answers, neither it's forcing any judgement on viewer.

schmoo then you don’t agree with the statement you originally agreed with then... You can’t find it sad that “Jeffrey wanted to be forgotten” if you also agree his father/family wanted his body burnt. Whether Jeffrey himself wanted his body burnt, or his family, the fact still remains it eliminates the tiny amount of evidence we could have used to actually prove Jeffrey was a monster. Whichever option, my original point is valid. Whoever’s idea it was to burn Jeffrey, was to cover up the fact he was evil, leaving only his words which weirdos like you use to hang onto the notion he was a person who not only deserved empathy, but should be empathised with in spite of how many he killed, how he chose to kill, how long he killed, etc. Bye troll

NOTHING that happens to Dahmer excuses ANYTHING he did, but I think that's why people find these movies so interesting. The thing I think people get confused is excuses versus explanations. I thought that this movie was an attempt to explain, at least partly, why Jeffrey Dahmer turned out the way he did, without excusing his behavior.
@mtfodaman18295 жыл бұрын
The movie didn't do anything. He is the protagonist, and everyone who opposes to him will be classified as a villain, even a cop. Anything bad that happens to the protagonist will make him show off as a victim.

That is true but he clearly had mental problems to begin with
@alexandrat82024 жыл бұрын
I think this movie and the real interviews and stuff generally aren't there to excuse his crimes but more explain how he spiralled out of control. He had a lot of problems mentally to begin with, with his parents not handling them the way they should, doctors and the whole justice system just overlooking stuff cause he was white he didn't get the therapy he needed to maybe be stopped or at least keep him from society. I just recently listened to a three hour podcast about his detailed life and he did try a lot of things to stop his urges, most prominent thing he tried was turn to alcoholism. He knew something was wrong, he knew what he did was wrong but when the chemicals in your brain are all screwed up and no one notices and you don't get help yourself, like proper help, there's nothing you can do to stop those urges. One doctor explained that what he probably suffered from was a disorder that hit the brain in the stop that usually responds to sexual arousal, but with that disorder the brain sort of seizes and arousal and aggressions are mixed. In his case everything else just pushed him into murder

No one failed to realize what he eventually became. This movie highlights all the warning signs that Dahmer showed when he was still in high school that people just ignored like him faking a seizure in the hallway in front of his classmates or him fantasizing about killing a male jogger that he was attracted to. He was deeply troubled from an early age and it’s sad because the crimes he eventually went on to commit could have been prevented if he had just willingly gotten the help he desperately needed early on.

There are thousands of psychopaths and sociopaths that chose societal morality and do not murder, he could have done the same. He was a selfish coward and that isn’t cute at all. Dahmer was not even remorseful. He was a lying manipulator. His bragging and disrespectful behavior led him to his death. Why should we care about his feelings? He didn’t care about the feelings of the 17 that he killed. “There are a surprising number out there who view Jeffrey Dahmer as some kind of antihero, a bullied kid who lashed back at the society that rejected him. This is nonsense. Dahmer was a twisted wretch whose depravity was almost beyond comprehension. Pity him, but don’t empathize with him.” -Derf Backderf

Dahmer is an extreme example of what can happen when the mind and heart of the social animal are grotesquely asphyxiated from a lifetime of alienation: familial, social, cultural ... He must've known nothing but bitter loneliness and anxiety from youngest age, with so little love, warmth or meaning to illuminate his bleak inner world. It's only in such a place of bleak abandonment that total possession of (the remnants of) others through their killing can become an addictive, momentary reprieve from the psychological suffering.

It sounds bad but people who said he was a freak were right but instead of just laughing, they should have done something about it.

Everyone saying "what's up with Disney stars playing serial killers?" but seriously Ross was really good at this one

Yes he was. And like Vanessa Hudgens once said, "I've got to move on and be who I am. I just don't belong here. I hope you understand."

Although Lynch pretty much approached playing Dahmer like Napoleon Dynamite, his resemblance to Dahmer completely made me forget about that. This film focuses not so much on the gore of Dahmer but rather the Dahmer he was before and in-between killings. And so the killer comes off as almost comical and even endearing. It leaves you scratching your head that such a person would have the capacity to bludgeon and disembowel someone, as was Dahmer’s wont.

Well the thing about most serial killers is that they don't come off as evil. I mean, they wouldn't have gotten away with it for so long if they did.

After watching the netflix series, I have to say, its hard to pick which portrayal I like more... Evan Peters AND Ross Lynch both went all-out for this role, and both added a necessary subtlety to their performances.

I think ross lynch was slightly better the only problem with even Peters potrayl was his threatening expression politeness and non threatening presence is dahmer 's biggest weapon which evan peter got wrong
