Great info - interesting the differences between 100km and the 50/60km distances - I just did a video on my gear for the 58km race I did recently and we are pretty similar (except for the mandatory gear and our nutrition plan). Always useful and interesting to hear from other people what they do, thanks for sharing!

Thanks! Totally agree. I've always found seeing what gear people take useful. It's how I discovered salt tablets and the impact they can have when running longer distances.

A tip I picked up for wearing a running vest with a hydration vest is to tape your shoulders where the vest would be to avoid rubbing. It works well. Do you have time to order the single measure of tailwind sachets? They were only thing I carried on my 54 miler last year. Just topped up at the aid stations with other stuff.

Interesting. I'll have to get some tape and try it out. Only nervousness would be if the tape ended up making me warmer. Maybe a t-shirt would be a better option. On the tailwind, I thought I would fill some small plastic sandwich bags with tailwind for refills. I saw Ryan Clayton do it and it seemed to work quite well. Possibly cheaper than the single measure sachets? Haven't actually seen the single measure sachets before so will have to do some research.

Sunglasses and maybe headphones. I also pack an eye bath thing in my first aid kit because typically something will fly into my eye and annoy me. I broke my ankle on a trail race (on the least technical section) and am scared of doing that again, so I also carry stretch and non-stretch tape to brace a sprain if needed. Lately I also take dish sponges in a sandwich bag to wetwipe down & dry after a race and freshen up a bit for any hanging around before I can get to a shower.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've never run with sunglasses or headphones. I find hats more comfortable shade from the sun when running and I find music a bit distracting. Breaking your ankle mid-race sounds awful! Totally get why you would take precautions after that. I've never broken a bone so I'm completely ignorant to what that must have felt like! Good suggestion on the post run sponges. I'll definitely add that to my drop bag!

@@jamesday1 I live in London where all the trees are male, so they are shedding. It's impossible to run without getting something in my eyes, so sunglasses are like PPE. Countryside I suppose would be less risk My first time breaking a bone too - I had thought I was maybe Wolverine before this incident.

😅 I'm in London too and I've just been battling through the pollen. Sun glasses would probably be a better idea. It's definitely a bit unpleasant at the moment! I didn't realise it was because the trees are all male. Just been reading an article about it. Very interesting!
