My passion for running has changed many aspects of my life. My 7 year running journey, from my first 5k to my first 100 mile ultramarathon has impacted many decisions in my life. From small daily decisions to major life decisions. This video is about the major ways running has impacted my life.

I have met some really good people through running, including my wife. I was an 800 metre runner and she was a long jumper! And many years later when I was training for my first 100k ultra marathon I bumped into one of my track competitors and he has become a close friend. Running can lead to so many great opportunities and it is lovely to hear what running has done for you. Another thought provoking video, well done James, it has certainly made me reflect on my running journey. Thank you. 👍🏻🏃🏽‍♂️💪🏼

Lovely to see how it's led you to some really impactful and healthy changes by default! A little more chicken vs egg for me in the sense that quitting drinking 2 years ago was pretty much the reason I started running in the first place. Honestly can't imagine getting up at 5am on a Sunday to go run on the trails for 6 hours with a hangover, sod that! Interesting about coffee though - was it only a stomach issue, or have you noticed any other benefits related to things like nervous syatem, HR....etc...?

Thanks! Yeah, cutting coffee has made a big difference for my energy levels throughout the day. When I was drinking a lot of coffee, I would get tired in the morning until I had my coffee, then I would often get a drop in energy in the late afternoon. I'd obviously get the energy boost after the coffee. Since cutting coffee out, getting low energy has become far less common. I find my energy levels are pretty stable now throughout the day. My resting heart rate is also much lower now.

Not sure how you had your coffee before, but for me I noticed dairy was a big driver of my stomach issues. Cutting dairy from coffee has eliminated my stomach issues on runs, and honestly going cheese less on pizza has helpful too.

Yeah, it's interesting because I've never really had an obvious issue with diary or bread so I've not really figured out why pizza is such an issue. With coffee, it never really mattered if it was black or with milk, once I cut it out, I saw big benefits.

Very relatable! I'd say the biggest change for me has been psychological. Endurance training really seems to calm my neurotic side and it has also made me feel a lot more happy about myself and how I spend my free time! Endurance training is such a rewarding hobby to have in that it's more than just enjoyment in the moment - you get so much more back from your time and energy invested in it!

My goal is to do what you do one day, got a couple marathons under my belt and my first 50k booked for next year. Maybe a bit off topic but how do you deal with smelly running clothes? Haha. Really struggle to get the stink out of my running t shirts, wondering if youve got any tricks

Amazing. Good luck with your first ultra Jack! Good question! You can actually buy washing powder which is specifically for sports clothing which is designed to remove the sweat from running gear. It's not perfect but does make a difference!
