For me the updates are anything BUT vague: 1. The team is focused on finishing up Chapter 3, Chapters 4 & 5 are in development; 2. Chapters 3, 4 & 5 are being released together; 3. Toby Fox is very tired; 4. And he wants the game more than you or anyone. Chapters 1 & 2 were released for free. The newsletter is available for anybody and is not an exclusive content for Patreon. Nobody makes you buy merch and the team actually needs food sometimes. What would y'all like to hear? There was enough future chapters' content released already, and an estimated release date... well, everyone knows how these usually work out. We all may have expectations and wants, but they are ours only

Really folks should want the game to be released when it's done. Nothing would suck more IMO than for any of the next chapters to be rushed and underwhelming as a result, and honestly Chapter 2's quality has me a little worried that Toby and co might just run out of steam near the end. Honestly I kind of hope Toby takes a break or something judging from what he's said recently. I really don't want the guy to burn out.

The amount that Toby Fox does for those who consume his content is unimaginable. He released chapter 2 for free, and simply brings countless new features every year, reporting on the progress of the chapter and revealing everything from images to some music and all this while working intensely on the chapters, in addition to working on music for other games or videos, as a fan I completely respect Toby Fox's decision and may he rest as long as possible because I know that sooner or later the chapters will be released

honestly my personal prediction (under no basis other than ‘ that seems about right ‘ ) is somewhere around summer/autumn of 2024 at the earliest and spring of 2025 at the latest. And I’d wait that long w/o issue. I will admit! I’m impatient! I hate waiting long stretches for things to happen! But I’ve worked in very minor game dev roles before and it is one of the most stressful and time consuming things I have ever done. So, I get it. So, I’ll bite my tongue and wait. not even gonna lie i think the newsletter was SUPER exciting, the fact that he scrapped something he didn't find fun tells me that he's putting his all into this game and it's going to come out SUPER polished. toby's in a place where he could easily slap some unity assets together and have people singing his praises, but he's going to make deltarune as good as it possibly can be, and i think it's worth waiting a couple extra years for that

I cannot tell you how annoying this is. Back in late 2022, I did a bunch of mathematics based off the current progression reports and went to myself "Ok, a reasonable expectation would be late 2024 if we follow a certain line of progress". The anniversary newsletter has made me reconsider that prediction to a 2025 possibly 2026 release. Meanwhile, the community has been on copium for the past couple months thinking that 3, 4 and 5 are going to release in 2023. Yeah right, game dev takes time, I would know, since I actually did some, even if on a far smaller scale. I will however say that in a world where Toby actually DOES release 3 on its own, it'll probably be on October 31st of this year, but the chances of him reconsidering his release plan are non-existent for multiple reasons I will not get into here (Even though the community has come to an agreement that releasing separately would be better, which I agree with). At least holding my expectations on 2025 and 2026 give me a win win scenario: Either the game releases earlier than that and I'm pleasantly surprised, or I avoid being disappointed like the rest of the community right now. It is awfully hard to ignore all the predictions and theories though.

OH MY GOD!! YES PLEASE. At the beginning I thought that the chapters could come out this year (That being more than a year ago), since the newsletters of this year I had erased that thought of my mind, but is also natural that people is dissapointed since they don´t have new content to show for this year. I feel that people doesn´t understand development, in some parts of it there is no new content and they are just coding everything and making it work. I think that they don´t have more content they can show without spoilers. The progress they have done is clear if you read the newsletters carefully. March: Programming the middle of it, June: Programing the final part of it, September: All programmed, putting the last stuff that is missing, libe maybe some mini games or battles or secuences. Idk, is clear that they are working on it, progressing even at a slow pace but progressing nontheless... And is all I need right now. I am also waiting for Silksong and in that game NO events, NO comics or interviews, NO updates just a trailer... Idk is okay if you are disapointed because they usually give us a lot more... But also you can be more understandable and thank all they did to keep us engaged in the hole year and in the past year. I think they don´t have more content to show since they are only programming, and I prefer they focus the energy they have in working in the actual game. I don´t want a rushed product, I want the game that Toby wants to make.

Ngl i think people need to be more appreciative of the fact that literally just 2/7 of the game was good enough to get a huge fanbase and has nearly as much content as undertale already. It's completely normal and reasonable for fans of a medium to be excited for its release, and then be disappointed when it doesn't. To be fair, if literally nothing happens people will just leave. The more engaged fans won't though. It's disappointing that apart from 3 paragraphs of the newsletter, we didn't get any game screenshots, for example. Last year's status update was much better, and at least it's on the official site, so those who didn't have the newsletter could actually read it. It's most likely super difficult to create a game such as Deltarune. It's so abundant of content it must take a really long time to just code all possible dialogues for one npc. I think Toby and his team are working on the quality, because as he likes to say, it's his "dream" project. It's also a good move that they don't announce a release date, because that would ruin a lot. I'm personally disappointed that the "status update" didn't even make it to the official website. Oh well, I'm still gonna wait. I have high expectations for this game, and I hope it's worth it. (also if I were Toby I'd release the chapters completely separately, because if we're gonna be hit with 3 chapters at once the fun will be over sooner) On the other hand I also don't understand why would you uh... "hate" the game if it didn't release? Like just move on. But also don't shit on people who are just simply disappointed, because it's a perfectly normal reaction.

Maybe there is no new content, they are programming what they already shown that was a lot, last year with the Sweepstakes they dropped like 3 times more content than with the actualization we had in 2020 of chapter 2. Other part of the team is working on Ch4 but I don´t think they have much since the bigger chunk of the team is with chapter 3. I just think that maybe they are tired... I also wanted something more and obviously the content was very meh, but we have being given a lot in the past and we should consider that.

From what I remember, that was nothing but speculation, and never actually on the table. Toby said that Ch 3-5 would be released simultaneously pretty shortly after the release of Ch 2 and, if I remember right, never said otherwise.

Toby hasn't made any official statements that I know of, but going off the Chapter 2 development time as well as the Chapter 3-5 Leaks, Deltarune Chapters 3-5 should be out sometime between October 20th to December 15th. Likely on the early end of that as well.
