Lucy Lane is a two year old social media famous German Shepherd living her best life in Sydney, Australia. In this video 'My German Shepherd got into a fight | Dog Vlog' we are entering day one of the Sydney lockdown 2.0 because of an outbreak of the new Covid Delta variant. Among finding out we only have a few hours of freedom I do what any good German Shepherd owner would do and take my dog to the beach despite the rest of Sydney is stocking up on toilet paper 😂. At the beach we meet up with our good friend Phoenix the German Shepherd and have a great afternoon until Lucy decided to pick a fight 😱

I have two GSD's as well. One is a 3 month male and the other is 10 month old female. Totally agree with your comment, have lots of fun with your GSD's!

That looked like a minor scuffle. I wouldn't bring her favorite toys when playing with other dogs. Her toys are her's only. My Fred will play with any dog. His favorite is a Irish wolfhound. Don't worry his protection mode can still kick in instantly. I always keep Fred on a leash around other dogs. A simple tug and a no stops everything. Don't forget to spoil Lucy while under lockdown !

I love what you, Felicity and Lucy are doing! Your camera work and back tracking music are all of extremely high professional quality, certainly better than most! First sorry to hear about Sydney lock down .. you guys have been kickin Covids butt keep up the good work,... and mate your not to blame here Lucy did fine, couple things went wrong here , (1) reward (2) dogs is never a good idea, Lucy was being lured by the wrong toy free hand in that last go around and the sequence of commands without reward release for toy motivated dogs built the tension up just a little too high. Even great handlers make mistakes, understanding them is key! .... careful you don't diminish her drive just work with two toys in the future and ask for shorter changed behaviors before rewards are given to reduce the tension. Lucy is outstanding!!!!!!!!

There was a moment before the fight where both dogs were between the legs and Lucy was lip licking which are classic Calming signals. This would have been a signal to us humans to stop what we are asking the dogs to do right at that moment but because we did not it escalated to a squabble. I am happy though that no one got hurt. These things happen very quickly. Here in South Africa we also enter a 2 week lockdown as of today. I look forward to more of your videos. Please send love to Lucy and Phoenix.

You are spot on about this scuffle! It does happen and owners have to deal and handle it. It’s not that horrific just learn from the incident and move forward in the training. Good job Zak ! Good luck with your lock down.👍🏼❤️

German Shepherd is member of the Herding Dog family that originated in Germany and also known as the Alsatian. This Dog developed by a German Cavalry Officer and a Dog breeder "Max von Stephanitz".

At 04:45 Lucy shows that she doesn't like the situation and at 04:54 Lucy is very frustrated because she got no help/signal how to handle it.. so she did it for herself 🤷‍♀️ But your friend did a great job 🙌 Calm and quick. There is no lockdown for my 16 mo female GSD. She goes for a walk twice a day. I've done so much training in a dog park (every weekend). At beginning, I did not bring any toys. I just let her play with other dogs. Than slowly I introduced a tennis ball (or something that looked as a ball) found at a park. Now I keep few tennis balls in my car. She has been happy to share it with other dogs. Note, at home we do not use tennis balls.

Was Lucy a land shark, my baby GSD girl is often biting and snappy at me (Not always she can also be super sweet)? - I am quite dominant with her through use of voice, body language and also and put her crate / outside when she gets out of hand. This biting/ snapping normal or should I be worried in your opinion totally scares my poor wife?

Sherman occasionally gets aggressive towards smaller dogs that bark, but he moves between myself and the dog. Some dogs he invites to play. But I work work work everyday. He is now 2 years old, I have learned to read Sherman's body language towards approaching dogs. I have him sit and leave it when they walk by. We have later learned to walk along those dogs for a walk together. Just a lot of work

These things happen! My dog got into a "fight" with a Pitbull who lounged at him and tried to attack me. He jumped on the dog to block the Pitbull from me who was "in training" with the dog trainers near me, all those trainers do is walk dogs and give treats. Anyway German shepherds are great, but they definitely can get territorial and very protective if you aren't training consistently. Thanks for sharing!

My husband and I both work but really want a GS. Our plan is to get a puppy or 2 puppies. Still doing the research on that. Everyone I know with dogs makes it look so easy, but none of them do training. I feel like we are over thinking this and should just dive in but we want to be responsible pet owners of a large dog. Any realistic comments and encouragement are welcomed.

Thank you for showing how it is and being authentic. It gives a tremendous insight for a person like me who doesn't have a dog (yet) on what might happen and what is the owner responsibility. The picture of dog ownership portrayed in media can be very misleading so this was valuable to see that even such a well trained dog as Lucy can make a bad decision.

Great job Zac! It was very helpful to folks that haven’t seen how to deal with large dogs that have the inevitable dust up. rare but even best friends have an occasional tiff or large difference of opinion! Kudos to your mate who gave a great show of exactly how to deal with it! He could not have done a better job! It doesn’t matter who started it you’ve just got to deal with it, always go after your own dog first as they are less likely to bite you! hopefully the other dogs person is close by and can lend a hand by doing the same with their dog. Best wishes for all of you getting through the lock down. I’m hoping it won’t last long and that you and Lucy can get back to your adventures quickly.

That‘s just part of canine behavior. They just tell each other off sometimes without causing injuries. You just need to know when to step in so it doesn‘t escalate.

@@thedogman7846 possessive aggression or resource guarding isn't normal or desired pet behavior. It's something that needs to be sorted, like he said he was going to. My point was that Lucy has been showing that this was going to happen but it was ignored/unseen for content purposes. Also not sure if you noticed dogman, but it did escalate lol the other dog wasn't taking her shit. What if the other dog had been much smaller and wasn't Lucy's "friend".

@@lexaandco7546 Resource guarding is the most normal thing in canines. I don‘t know what you‘re talking about. Desired? Maybe not but deffinetly normal. I don‘t know what kind of dog fight‘s you‘ve seen but this didn‘t „escalate“. The dogs easely released and nobody got injured. When a conflict escalates it takes way more effort then this to separate them and even in that short time that phoenix „held“ on to Lucy, he would‘ve left holes in her skin. Could it have actually escalated and turned into a serious fight? Yes. Phoenix‘ owner reacted and broke it up with little effort and it was done.

@@thedogman7846 So if you think resource guarding is normal, do you just let it happen? This did escalate, but yes it could have been much worse (didn't say it couldn't). If these two dogs lived in the same house, it would be worse. Sounds like you ignore all the signs from dogs too and just wait to see how bad things get? We train different, I try to be proactive not reactive. My dog doesn't just lash out and latch onto things when she's uncomfortable. She needed to learn that.

it’s been 3 months and i’m trying so HARD to convince my mom to get me a german shepherd, i’ve done all the research on the breed and how it’s like to take care of one, I told her that I would full responsibility for him, but she just won’t budge 😭, i’m so determined to get a GSD but my mother is really stubborn 😂.
