Excellent advice Frank, As a gigging solo musician (as a hobby) I agree it is all about building business relationships with the venues/clients. I have been lucky to deal with venues / clients who appreciate what I do and repeat gigs are the result. It’s a 2-way street of respect…When clients Cancel you for “Something better” in their eyes, I Really like your advice on “the next time” they book you, tell them you require a deposit upfront and if they Cancel, you keep the deposit. Great way to see if they are worth keeping as a client. Keep up the Great videos!

Love your channel, Frank! I'm not at the 'gigging' stage yet, but find your guidance very interesting and useful. Perhaps you're too busy, but have you ever considered an occasional episode on how to begin the gigging process? Also, for we neophytes, perhaps a lesson or two on what types of equipment and even some instruction on how to properly use the various (myriad?) pieces of equipment? I only ask out of respect for your ability to explain things very clearly, which (to me) is the essence of teaching. Just curious.

Hey Frank- you mentioned an example of weather but curious about your opinions on this scenario: We play a lot of outdoor gigs in the summer. Given that I have over 5K worth of equipment (we do a trio), I am always looking at the weather. The day before (or day of) you see 30-40% chance (or even higher) of thunderstorms- venue doesn't really care- they want you but I am concerned. I don't want to put my equipment in harm's way BUT I don't want to tick off the venue because we really like playing there. Thoughts? PS- love your channel- you points are always spot on :)

Yeah well first thing I would deff only play outdoor gig if I had some sort of overhead cover. This way at least your gear doesn’t get wet if the rain comes out of nowhere. It is a tough call though because thunderstorms can come out of nowhere or not at all and you don’t wanna cancel a gig because it “might” rain. I would say (and this is from personal experience) if there is any lightning or thunder whatsoever close by even if it doesn’t rain UNPLUG all gear and wait it out.
