Old fart here: the ‘killer’ groove for me was on House of the Rising Sun. By the third lesson it was ‘revealed’-nothing but a simple arpeggio of chords I had to learn anyway- and I was floored.

The bottom line to me is always use the gear you want, whether it's tube amps, modelers, a Tube Screamer direct into a PA or whatever. Everything will be worth something at some point. Not long ago, 70s Gibsons were considered garbage, now Gibson is selling recreations of them and people are asking for a ton for them.

Great video Frank. Have you ever tried using a drum pedal and synching it with a looper? I’ve used a Beat Buddy for several years, not on all songs but for some. I’m messing around with a looper again thanks to your videos but will have to upgrade mine to get one that syncs with the Beat Buddy.

Not yet! But I am looking into the beat buddy and will sync with my dittox4 that does have midi capability.

Will there be timing issues while using my beat buddy pedal?
@FrankPersico2 күн бұрын
If you send the out from your beat buddy into the looper and capture a “loop” of the beat you are playing back you can then just use the loop pedal to play back the beat and stack your guitar loops on that. That would probably have limited use depending on how you are using your beat buddy. or you could implement the midi sync that beat buddy has but you would need a loop pedal that has midi capability like the ditto x4. I personally do not use a beat buddy (yet) but this is how I would approach it
@aaronjademusic51972 күн бұрын
@@FrankPersico I use the beat buddy for a lot of songs…say, Take it Easy by the Eagles. So I just dial up a drum beat and play over that. So I was wondering if adding a little 5-10 second fill/solo would throw the timing off. Thanks for answering my question and I subscribed to your channel, it’s great! 👊🏼
@FrankPersico2 күн бұрын
@@aaronjademusic5197 lets say if you had the beat buddy running and you go to set up a loop independently ... well if you time the in and out of the loop perfectly you may get away with it staying in sync for a few round trips of the loop. but i think inevitably it would start to veer off unless you had them synced via midi. and thanks for the sub!! i really appreciate it.

A great selection of songs Frank and I have to say I was privileged to be a teenager in the 60s in UK so I knew all about the Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel and Eric Clapton. I was a late starter only playing guitar properly when I was 18 in 1969 and I'm now 72. Do I add to this list or also put Don McLean and Donovan. And to make it very folky the King of folk guitar in Britain, Ralph McTell. Check out his most famous song streets of London and many others Clare to Here, ZigZag Line, and the epic Nettle Wine. I also listen to other players but could never play their stuff such as Stefan Grossman., Burt Jansch, John Redbourne, John Martyn.

My biggest fear traveling is that I would be forced to check the guitar at the gate. That happened once many years ago, after I was told I could bring it on the plane with me, and the little clapboard case, along with the guitar, were destroyed by the luggage handlers. The airline paid for repairs, but the guitar was never the same after that. This year, I bought a guitar at Guitar center when I arrived, and returned it the day I left for home! :P
