Karin, a strong Uzumaki, hungry for Sasuke just like Sakura. What make it worse for Sakura was because she's the main character. Kishimoto could've made Sakura better in this war arc. Just like Carson said, she could've just said 'I'm fine' when saved by Naruto. Instead, Kishimoto made her think about Sasuke, degrading her even more. This war arc could be Kishimoto's redemption for failing Sakura in my opinion.

Athough I more or less agree with you on Sakura, I think you don't give enough credit for her brief "fight" with Madara. That scene along with some context around it was executed poorly, but there is no way Sakura could've ended up better from that confrontation. You are comparing her feat against similar one done by Tsunade, but you are forgetting that Madara than could not compare to what he is now. It is estabilished that Sakura is around the same level or even a bit stroger than Tsunade (she can amass more chakra in a shorter amount of time, she does not waste it on youthful appereance and could summon a bigger portion of Katsuyu). Tsunade would've ended up the same or even worse in Sakura's situation, given that Madara is now at the level where he could easily dispose of both Naruto and Sasuke in their previous power level iteration. And even than each of them could easily trash Tsunade and by extent Sakura who is close to that level. Also she was pierced with sage's rod which could immobilize far stronger first and second hokages even though they are reanimations. So i think this rant about Sakura i a bit undeserved PS. Sakura actually contributed alot to this story arc and anyone that does not think that is just wrong so I have no idea why Kishimoto felt compelled to make her flaws so transparent towards the end of this arc. At least in early arcs it was through our own obserations that we recognized sakura's inadequacys but in this arc, he basically threw these things right in our faces. All well sakura was evolving. It was plain annoying and I think was an obvous intentional thing by the creator for what ever reason. When the writing of the story is leading to the fact that Sakura could redeem all of her flaws in one fell stroke by being the hero and stabbing Obito's Rinnegen. But no. "I finally caught up to them" Why the hell would he even write something like that when we are so close to the end of the story. it makes no sence to me. Its like your writing about a character making changes, even forshadowing it in early portions of this arc and the prospect of her actually doing something amazing for the good of the world, not to mention the build up to this moment, only to take it away at the last min and then right after that, have the gall to write Sakura saying "I finally caught up to them" followed by a scene a mere 10 seconds later with her failing yet again to strike madara and having to be saved. Its fucking stupid. I am just trying to wrap my head around Kishimoto's thought process here.

This just showcases how Sakura’s claim of catching up with Naruto and Sasuke was complete BS. It’s like they purposely sabotage any opportunity for Sakura to do something substantial. Again, the closest we got to seeing Sakura at her best was the Rescue Kazekage arc. Why they didn’t continue improving her after that arc is beyond me. She always claims that she doesn’t want to be behind her comrades anymore but she never gets the chance to actually progress in a meaningful way. She always stumbles and misses her chance. How many times have we seen the same routine of her acknowledging her weaknesses followed by the same flashback of her starring behind Naruto and Sasuke only for her to falter and never follow through her thought intent? It’s like they repeatedly show it to give us false hope that she’s going to break out of her shell only to say “SIKE!” at the end. And on to top of that, her character is still mostly infatuated with Sasuke for no reason at all. From having her falter to stab Obito, failing to do what Tsunade did earlier while still focusing on Sasuke after being saved by Naruto feels really insulting. It’s absolutely frustrating and it genuinely baffles me how some people go to hugely ridiculous lengths to defend the writing when she’s clearly capable of being so much better. The rant you guys made at the end perfectly summarised my frustration with the way Sakura is written. Even your suggestions of the directions they could have made with her already feel like vast improvements over what we actually got. It’s not like we actively want to hate Sakura but with the amount of missteps and misdirections they take with the character, it’s no wonder that she’s divided among fans.

Sakura is definitely poorly written at times but remember that she is only 16-17, and that 16-17 year old girl does more in this war than 90% of the rest of the shinobi. Also this is like the one time she ever rushed in first without thinking of the consequences. Give her a break. I always thought the "I finally caught up to these two" is always misinterpreted, if you look at context I believe she means that she is finally able to fight side by side with them not that she is at the same level as them.

I would like to preface this by saying I am a massive fan of the Naruto series However The biggest flaw in Naruto is how they never give a compelling reason for Sakura's feelings towards Sasuke, its literally a little girl having a crush on the cutest guy at school and then Sakura carrying a 1 sided interest during their rise to adolescence and finally resulting in an honestly toxic level of abuse acceptance on her part. Never once did they spend any time to develop their relationship, aside from Sasuke being attractive and talented, they never define anything from her perspective. I am not a Sakura fan to begin with but its infuriating how they reduced her character to being just a romantic anchor and constant burden in almost every situation she is involved with. Seems like you're a little confused on the Naruto and tailed beast thing so just wanted to clarify a little. When he saved the Jinchuriki he got chakra of Son Goku the four tails and then chakra from the other tailed beasts when they were in the same mind space. But he was missing the one tails and eight tails since they weren't among the revived jinchuriki. Obito stole a piece of them both from Madara and gave them to Naruto when he gave back the nine tails black zetsu stole from Minato, so now Naruto has a small piece of every beast and half of the ninetails. And no none of this was clearly spelled out so if people yell at you saying any of this was obvious they're idiots.

Everyone points out that Kishimoto doesn't really value female characters.. I mean Tsunade is introduced as one of the most powerful people left but not as powerful as Jiraya, and she relies on an 11yr old to save her. During the Pain fight, Tsunade is relegated to the healer role. She does do badass stuff in the fight with Madara, but they have the entire gang.. the only like bad ass female he's done is the Mizukage but even then Kishimoto made her husband hungry. I think that all changes in Boruto and that Kishimoto isn't as involved in the script. That or he learned from the critiques.

In the first sannin fight all 3 were nerfed (Jiraya was poisoned, Tsunade had her trauma + she was rusty for not fighting for something like 20 years and Orochimaru didn't have his arms). Against Pain she did her best to save everyone she could. She might have not fought him directly, but she was giving everything she had nonetheless. And Madara is Madara

To be honest, what bothers me the most about Sakura is that her wartime action scenes were sabotaged by the studio. In the manga, Kishimoto was very careful with details, at the time I was very excited, because the scenes conveyed emotion, at the time it was amazing to see Sakura awakening Tsunade's seal and defeating several "clones" of Juubi. It was a little disappointing when I saw this scene in the anime, the animation didn't collaborate. The scene with Obito was terrible, in the manga she was scared, but she didn't hesitate like in the anime, she didn't even see Madara coming, only Obito, she realized that Madara had gone there, when Kakashi explained what happened.

Sakura training with Lee to have a solid Taijutsu foundation combined with her monster strength would have been nice. Also she could have moved on from Sasuke (specifically around the time he tried to kill her), trained with Lee after Kakashi and Naruto saved her from sasuke multiple times, developed a connection with Lee which made her realize her self worth. That sounds like solid character growth to me. This would also make sense because Lee has had a crush on her since the chunin exams. Sakura is pretty much a nobody her parents weren't even shinobi while Tsunade is the granddaughter of Hashirama the strongest shinobi.
