After watching this reaction series.... I'm forever grateful for military men and women that endure basic training and hold the highest standard as they serve. I grew up with multiple people in the military from Marines, Army, and National Guard branches. My aunt served while pregnant overseas in the National Guard after the 9/11 tragedy. She still has military in her. I feel extremely safe when I'm around her because she knows all exits and watches everyone in the room... although I personally wouldn't join the military, I salute to all who put their lives on the line for my safety while in war or not!! Thank you Austen Alexander!

The infantry in the us army does osut. Which means one station unit training. I went through in 2009. You pretty much do your basic training (Boot camp) then go straight into your AIT or advanced individual training. With that you stay with the same drill sergeants from day 0 of basic training to the day you graduate from osut.

There are specific MOS training that is OSUT (one-station unit training), it is bootcamp and AIT together. Infantry (CMF 11) is one of the MOS that is OSUT. All other MOS will go to bootcamp and then move on to AIT. Electronics training (CMF 94) is separated bootcamp and AIT. EDIT: @Austen Alexander, it is MOUT (Military Operations in Urban Terrain). Pronounced like "mount" but without the "n".

Army Basic Combat Training (BCT) is 10 weeks long. Specialized military occupational specialties (MOS) such as Infantry, Armor, and MP go to OSUT. OSUT is One Station Unit Training which means both their basic training and AIT (advanced individual training) are at the same location and coincide with one another. Other MOSes usually go to a different base to have their AIT.

Army basic training lasts 10 weeks once soldiers get picked up from reception. From there, they send each soldier to their AIT os MOS school. I did my training at Ft. Benning, GA. and was sent to Ft. Lee, VA. The 22 week training is for the infantry soldiers. They go thru their 10 weeks of basic and then continue into their infantry training. After they are pinned with the blue cord, they are sent for further training like airborne or sent to their duty stations

It's insane how different the army is these days. Back when I joined in 2006, the Drill Sergeants would gang up on you (which is what an actual shark attack is, not whatever they were doing at the beginning of the video), and they'd get so close to you, their brown rounds would be smashing into your face. Spit flying everywhere. And then they'd punish the entire platoon for one person's mistake. I went to OSUT at Ft. Leonard Wood. I think it was like 19 weeks long total. Maybe 20 weeks. Don't remember. We weren't allowed to eat the "sweet" parts of our MREs. We had to throw them away as soon as we opened them up. And may whatever god you believe in help you if you were the unlucky one who got the vegetarian breakfast omelet MRE. Looked and tasted like vomit.

Might have been said: Basic Training is 10 weeks (9 when I went in 03), AIT is immediately after. Some are OSUT (Infantry, MP, Chemical, Engineers) but others go to other bases for training. BCT (Basic Combat Training) is done at 5 military bases : Benning (was male only, now Co-ed), Jackson (Co-ed), Leonard Wood (Co-ed), Knox (Male only), and Sill (Male only). If your MOS (Military Occupational Specialty) falls under OSUT, then your Drill Sergeants are your primary MOS instructors. In my case as an MP mine was OSUT so I pretty much had basic training for 17 weeks.

Yeah, they mistitled the video. This video covered US Army Infantry One Station Unit Training (OSUT.) For most MOS' in the Army, a trainee will go to Basic Training for 11 weeks (Ft Jackson, Ft Leonard Wood, Ft Benning, etc.) and then proceed on to a different post for their Advance Initial Training (MOS training.) OSUT, which is primarily for combat MOS', basically wraps both Basic Training and AIT into one cycle. So for Infantry OSUT, Trainees will show up to Ft Benning, do reception for 2 weeks, then the Basic Training portion for 11 weeks or so, have a family weekend pass, and then go straight into the MOS (Infantry) specific training.

In other MOS training, a soldier will complete basic training at a basic training installation, and then will report to a different unit for Advanced Individual Training (AIT) to learn their MOS specific skills (i.e. aviation, quartermaster, MP, etc.). With Infantry OSUT it’s a total of 22 weeks (14 when I went years ago), is conducted only at Ft. Benning, GA, and includes basic training and advance infantry training all in one place. You stay with the same unit for both basic and MOS training, and you stay with the same Drill Sergeants and classmates all the way through till graduation.

OSUT is basic training and job training all in one. Some jobs in the Army have OSUT where there is no pause in between Basic and job training. It carries all the way through. You don't switch post, instructors, etc. You keep the same Drill Instructors from start to finish. There are jobs in the Army that have 13 weeks of basic training then they are shipped off to their job training that varies in length.
@Rickdog7874 жыл бұрын
So it’s actually basic training, not like marines “boot camp”. OSUT is just your 9 week BCT (basic combat training) then its 7ish weeks of “job” or MOS training. So I’m a 19D (cavalry scout) here at Fort Benning, and my OSUT was 17 weeks. The infantry guys I’ve talked to have 22 week cycles. But that’s how BCT and OSUT works for the most part. Obviously various with MOS’s. So yes you are correct there at the end of your video.
@jessecrockett81274 жыл бұрын
I'm a 19D shipping to Benning for OSUT in about a month, and I get told by some people that it's ~16 weeks and others tell me it's ~22 weeks. I talked to an 11B who went through the 22 week OSUT, told me I'd probably do 22 weeks as well, but you say yours is 17 weeks, so I'm rather confused.
@Rickdog7874 жыл бұрын
Soulless MMA so from what I’ve been hearing with the new troop that picked up, they are a 22 week cycle because of covid. A lot of it is PNN (private news network) so take it with a grain of salt. For the infantry MOS which is 11 bravo, you’re automatically going to do your basic training at Fort Benning which basic training for everybody is nine weeks and then the infantry MOS training follows right after. For me once my nine week basic training was over, basically a day or two after graduation, I got on a plane to my MOS training. I can say that people who sign up for the infantry training job our house and are trained separately from people who are there just for the basic who are going to do another job. OSUT. It’s One Station Unit Training and it’s a combined basic training and Infantry training that is 22 weeks long. From there you go to Airborne and then RIP (RASP now) or go straight to a leg unit or go airborne and then Special Forces, etc. Say, if you are 101st you would leave OSUT for your unit and at your unit you would be trained in air assault or complete air assault school since the screaming eagles are now an air assault unit. If you’re going airborne infantry you graduate OSUT and paint some rocks waiting for airborne school. The idea was to streamline the process to include better training. When I went through we had a sort of tiny celebration where the DI’s said we were at the phase where we would graduate basic and they let us go to the px and pizza place for a Sunday I think it was. Something like that.

OSUT is specifically for combat jobs like infantry and green beret candidates. Normal basic for other jobs is 10 weeks, but infantry is 22 weeks
@huntermoreno7404 жыл бұрын
What you watched was OSUT (one station unit training) that applies for infantrymen. It is a 22 week training cycle. Standard bootcamp for anyone in the army is 9 weeks
@caelanserrano3 жыл бұрын
Basic training is 9-10 weeks, infantry training is basically extended basic if you're not going to AIT (for other MOSs) from what I know and understand.
@devanguzman88004 жыл бұрын
Infantry, MP, and combat engineers do what’s called OSUT (one station unit training) which means they go to there training station and go through basic training (red, white, and blue phase) then after they’re done with basic training they start schooling specific to their MOS while remaining at the same basic and have the same drill sergeants as they did through basic and they do not have a graduation until the very end of all the training. Now BCT/AIT soldiers go through basic training which is 10 weeks, then they will graduate once they’ve completed it and be sent to whichever station or unit wether it’s on the same base or not to do their school. For me as a 12D I did basic training with combat engineers in ft LWood, once BCT was over I left the unit and moved to a different one but remained on ft LWood while everybody else remained at the same unit to complete their combat engineer school

The video depicts U.S. infantry OSUT( one station unit training). U.S. army basic training is 9 weeks, 10 if you want to include reception. Infantry soldiers will stay with their basic training unit to complete their additional MOS training to equal their 22 weeks as apposed to most other soldiers who will attend AIT ( MOS training) at another unit. Their are several MOSs that practice OSUT but considering the over 150 MOS options in the army it is not common.
@markgomez14294 жыл бұрын
Out of all the MOS in the army Infantry and Calvary Scouts are the only ones that are 22 weeks because they have OSUT which is “One station unit trading “ which is Basic training and AIT which is basically MOS school both in the same place rather than 11 weeks of Basic training that any other MOS would normally get .
@tyler44754 жыл бұрын
OSUT combines a recruits bootcamp and special school into one process. They call it one station unit training because for example an infantry soldier would go through bootcamp, then straight to their infantry school while at the same place, or “one station” they just don’t leave and go somewhere else.
@dakotaburchett774 жыл бұрын
O.S.U.T. (one station unit training) is a combination on basic combat training, and advanced individual training. primarily used for combat-based MOSs like infantry, combat engineers, artillery, cav scouts, and MPs
@Timmy-qc1ss4 жыл бұрын
They have Basic Training in different places depending on their MOS (occupation). For example, you would go to Fort Benning for boot camp if you were an infantrymen, or you would go to Fort Leonard Wood if you were in the Military Police. And also, OSUT is basically training that comes extra with boot camp for some occupations. (I'm not in the army, so correct me if I'm wrong.)
@HeReignsOverlanding4 жыл бұрын
OSUT is back to back basic training followed up by AIT (Advanced Individual Training) “job training” on the same base. Some MOS’ only have OSET such as Infantry, engineers, MP’s etc.. while others such as HR or Medical have their AIT somewhere else. - Army 68W Combat Medic

Actual combat specialties (i.e. Infantry, Cav Scouts, etc) go to OSUT. It is basic training and advanced (job) training in one. If you are non-combat, such as supply, you go to bootcamp, then to advanced training afterward.
@hays764 жыл бұрын
Yes, Fort Benning is designated for infantry. There are 4 locations for basic combat training in the U.S. Army.
@jjjkinnemore4 жыл бұрын
So to clarify, if you are infantry you go to a different basic training than other jobs in the Army. What you saw here was the Army Infantry Basic Training, which is known as OUST. The marines have their own combat training after basic but it wasn't shown in the video you posted.
@CarterIsAway4 жыл бұрын
Yeah training is halted everywhere, Im Canadian forces the training is going to resume in about a months time. Totally different.
@patmangus20144 жыл бұрын
It's OSUT which stands for One Station Unit Training meaning that the first 9 weeks after the 2 week reception phase is Basic Training and the rest is their AIT portion or Advanced Individual Training. OSUT training means that it all occurs at that same base which is most likely the branch school base for that MOS, Mililary Occupation Specialty. Infantry and Armor soldiers are all trained at Fort Benning.
@bonosos804 жыл бұрын
Yes. They already went to basic for 10 weeks, then train infantry, which is pretty much advanced basic all over again with more tactics and such, for 12 more weeks. And that’s all they’ll do, fight.
@th96434 жыл бұрын
OSUT - One Stop Unit Training. They go to basic at Benning then go to AIT at Benning. They literally just put them on a bus to drive to another location on base for AIT.

Some of the best sleep you will have in your life. I did my training at Ft. KNOX for CAV SCOUT, but you never leave until your OSUT is over it’s basic and job training all together when I went through almost 10 years ago the drill Sargents never went easy on you, it was like that first week or basic for the full 22 weeks till the day you graduate. I don’t regret making my choice to join the ARMY.
@aidanehst4 жыл бұрын
Well the Army video followed Infantry soldiers going through OSUT. The Marine video was all MOS’s which is why it may seem more combative based training
@Hunter-hz9vq4 жыл бұрын
Combat training, the infantry especially trains at GA, the infantry is known as OSUT and is 22 weeks. Basic training can be held at Ft. Jackson, Fort Benning, Fort Sill, and Fort Leonardwood. Go to Fort Benning to see the real deal training and the National Infantry Museum
@9601danb4 жыл бұрын
OSUT is One Stop Unit Training so they do basic and AIT at one spot. So its 10 weeks of basic and 12 weeks of AIT for Infantry training
@loneranger55934 жыл бұрын
It's called Infantry OSUT. ''One Station Unit Training'' I went to Fox 2-58, 22 week cycle on Sand Hill. It's basic training combined with AIT to form the 22 weeks.
@AirsoftReaper4 жыл бұрын
Correct, they’re infantry and they were doing their basic training and once they pass phase 1 they’ll move onto phase 2 of training their actual infantry training. It’s like the British infantry we do phase 1 (basic) then phase 2 (infantry training) which I am joining.

I went to Basic training at Ft. Jackson! Then to Ft Eustis Va. for my AIT. Became an Aircraft power plant mechanic. Worked on mostly helicopters in my almost 12 year’s in the U.S. Army! I enlisted on the delay entry program in 1975. Went Active Duty in October 1976. Ended up out on a Reduction in Force June 1988.

OSUT stands for One Stop Unit Training so you go through your basic training which is 10 weeks then go through AIT with the same people right after basic you stay in the unit you started in at the very beginning
@Chuck558924 жыл бұрын
OSUT is when trainees spend their basic training and AIT at the same place. For example, infantryman do boot camp and infantry training at Fort Benning making is OSUT. However, someone who is an attack helicopter repairer would go to two different places for boot camp and AIT, if that breaks it down easier for you.
@andrewjones6754 жыл бұрын
For Infantry, Military Police, Combat Engineers, Bridge Crewmember, M1 Abrams Crewman, and Cavalry Scout do not goto basic then AIT. They have basic training the whole way through basically. It is called One Station Unit Training(OSUT). It's significantly harder than the training other MOS go through, due to the fact that they have Drill Sergeants the ENTIRE way through, and AIT for other MOS is MUCH more relaxed.

My son is getting ready to leave for the Army BC and it’s 24 weeks. If they are infantry they will do the full boot camp and AIT all in Georgia. This is what my son will be doing.
@DrewHuggins4232 жыл бұрын
In the army instead of going to BCT and AIT separately, they go to OSUT (which combines BCT and tech school (AIT), that’s why it’s so long) it’s not all boot camp. 11B infantry training happens all at once. There are four (correct me if I’m wrong) posts that have OSUT. Everyone else, non OSUT MOS go to BCT at Ft. Jackson, SC. It is the largest TRADOC post and houses the school for Chaplains as well as the AIT for Chaplains assistants.
@laangelsfan4 жыл бұрын
It's 22 weeks of Infantry OSUT combined with Basic and AIT within all together. Then just Regular army Basic Training with 10 Weeks and from there they moved on to their AIT location

I was the white that the drill sergeant was yelling at saying “WHY ARE YOU MOVING, WHY ARE YOU MOVING” when I got off the bus it was a surreal experience knowing that I’m stepping in the footsteps of those who may not be on earth anymore. I was in Echo company 1-81 AR we were a 22 week cycle

The DS in the video, DS Laitila, was one of the DS’ when I went in. 3rd PLT “Slayers” A Co 3-47. Also it is universally agreed, straight out of basic, that all of us would rather die than go back to 30th AG again
@Kafkodesu4 жыл бұрын
It's both Infantry and Armor OSUT (One Station Unit Training) at Fort Benning on Sand Hill and Harmony Church. OSUT Combined basic training and AIT into one continuous period of training. The Armor OSUT shown in this video was the unit I graduated from last year.
