This is an adaptation of the Marvel Zombies story from 2005, which was written by Robert Kirkman, the man who brought us The Walking Dead (It's also a full circle for Danai Gurira lol) and Invincible. Just like in here, what makes the zombies in this special is that they have full motor control, and can use all the skills and powers they previously had, but in the comic, It's MUCH more gruesome, because they can talk too, with a new warped personality, and it goes into places... The show also adapts a very famous and disturbing moment with T'Challa. In the comic, Zombie Hank Pym goes behind the zombie collectives back, and captures T'Challa, and takes pieces of his limbs to keep food for himself. Here, it's just as disturbing, which I never thought this show would go, except for Zombie Galactus, we have a Zombie Thanos, man the world is SCREEEEEEWWWEEDDDD lol

For an episode that is rife with doom and gloom, the one liners and humor were plentiful throughout this episode. From Happy's "BLAM BLAM BLAM" to Sharon's listed talents (eulogies) to the Harry Potter reference spouted by...um...the glass encased head of Scott Lang donning Strange's cloak, this turned out to be a brilliant episode. So brilliant that I turned on CC so I wouldn't miss any of the dialog. The visuals of the character designs and the animation were again wonderful. What If...? has exceeded my expectations and I salute Marvel for not half-assing this series. I might be in the minority here but this was the best episode yet. The only problem I have is that this wasn't longer. Easily 9/10

So, I'm gonna be THAT guy and explain that in the Marvel Zombies comics, the Zombified heroes actually retained their consciousness. They talked and were fully aware of their actions. But once the hunger kicked in, they simply gave in and devoured anything uninfected, and after they were "full", they reverted back to the normal personalities, and Spider-Man was the most emotional out of all of them, always crying and wishing that somebody killed him because he devoured his own family. Later on, some of the Zombies (Spidey included) spent nearly 40 years without eating, and they realized that they weren't as hungry as they believed, and realized that the "hunger" was psychological, and they joined Wakanda (the only community left alive) to fight the Zombies that refused to overcome the hunger and had accepted their newfound life, and helped the living humans fight off and kill the remaining Zombies.

This episode also acts as a “what if captain America civil war ended with the avengers reunited” since we get the avengers together before the outbreak, probably rejoining to battle the zombies. It doesn’t impact the plot but it’s something to note Also The way they handle Black panther is exactly out of the comics, but instead of him being slowly fed to Wanda by vision he’s being experimented on by Hank and fed to Janets zombie head in a jar (obviously they replaced that with alive Scott’s head in a jar). The zombie virus is also comic accurate, they are basically themselves with all the powers and abilities but with the appearance and flesh lust of zombies. the comics the main emotional beat was a Zombie Peter who regrets eating MJ and aunt may, and although it’s a bit dark I’m surprised they didn’t adapt that via showing us a zombie ant may

Enjoyed it overall best element was the brutality was not expecting it at all with Disney at the helm. This was still nothing compared to the Marvel zombie comic's you really need a whole show or arc to do justice to the comic. Wasn't a fan of the emotionless reactions and jokes but overall it was fun to see our favourite characters face off against zombies. Should've been a two part felt very rushed in terms of the story and would've loved if they toned down the jokes (besides Peter) and had more of that sadness from the Doctor Strange episode when characters dies/turns instead of laughing them off when they kill their former friends lol but yeah 7/10 for me hope next week's episode is better. Edit: When i say i wasn't a fan of the jokes I'm referring more to the lines we hear when character's die along with the lack of emotion from the characters which was my biggest problem with this episode. Loved the dialogue in between these moments like Happy shouting "BLAM BLAM BLAM" when shooting to Peter's movie comments these i loved.

Same wish we got another episode along with more dark moments not overshadowed by the jokes. Peter and his zombie video was great but they should've gone for a more depressing feel and tone when we see someone die or even when an undead Avenger dies. Carter making that joke after killing happy was just so out of character same goes with Bucky's reaction to Sam getting cut in half. Overall it was a fun episode but wish the story went somewhere more interesting along with having more weight like we saw in the amazing Marvel zombie comics.

Generally people turn quickly if they're already dead. If they're alive and get bit, or in this case, blood in a scratch, the virus has to kill them first, and then turn them. So in Hope's case, the virus is slowly battling all of her living cells that are trying to fight it off. So she turns extremely slowly compared to Sharon who didn't have any living cells to fight off the virus.

People speculate the zombies were doing what they could because of muscle memory. Strange and Wong making the portals, Iron man firing his laser, Hank resizing in his suit, Falcon flying with his wings, Hawkeye using his bow and Wanda using her powers were all things they did so many times that it became natural to them.

Yeah that is part of it but they clearly had memories from before zombification. The scene where zombified Wanda sees Vision dead she is clearly griefing of his death. So they clearly had memories and could recognize the people they knew. I would say they could do anything they could do before as long as it did not require them to speak. The zombified Avengers retaining their combat skills and use of powers (magic by Dr Strange, tech by Iron Man etc), how T'Challa lost a leg in the camp, and how Ant-Man was a decapitated head are all references to the comics. I’m surprised that nobody is talking about how gorey this episode is. Probably the most violent MCU media we’ve seen. Falcon got cut in half down the vertical midline, Wong and iron man got decapitated (Tony had his head eaten), Cap got cut in half horizontally, happy had his head blown up, and more

This show has litearlly been getting better every single episode, this is how you do an animated series. I seriously dont know how the MCU can churn out such sick content movie after movie and show after show. I was so worried Endgame was the end but Feige has proven to everyone that they were only getting started. Damn Holden never read the Avengers Zombie run that this story was based on. He needs to get on it asap. This was completely comics cannon. Just with different characters in different roles. Like Vision being Hank Pym’s character.

They took innovation from the marvel zombies comic series. In it they were zombies but were able to retain their wits and abilities as zombies. In the comics instead of BP being eaten on by Wanda he was being eaten by Hank Pym I believe. He was trying to find a cure as a zombie but realized that if they would eat moderately or not at all then eventually they would lose their hunger and be their regular selves but in zombie form. The comic is crazy lol

I don’t know if y’all knew this but Danai Gurira, the voice actor for Okoye in this episode that Jen rightly identified as the voice of Michonne in the Walking Dead is also the actor who plays Okoye in both Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War/Endgame.

Jen listens to After The Burial? I’m liking her music taste. Also I’m with Holden on being surprised on how gruesome some of the zombie kills were. Especially Sharrons like my jaw dropped when she exploded not just because she exploded but because it happened on a Disney platform lol but I was not upset about it at all.

Today's episode was good. In the comics, they had their same personalities as long as they didn't hunger. Holden, I have, and am wearing, the same shirt. I know it's a common shirt, but still...

They also retained their speaking ability in the comics along side their powers. So happy they did marvel zombies and didn't shy away from the blood and gore. Not the hard R but more than I thought they'd do

Was really looking forward to this episode because I love the marvel zombies comics. Was interested to see how the outbreak started since in the comic it was from a crossover with the evil dead. Also cool to see them do their own version of of the story line of someone cutting bits off a living person to feed to a zombie partner.

In the comics, they actually keep their speech and train of thought as well. They're able to fool people into going with them saying that they're alright, and they just look like that Ect.. In the comic that this is based off of, the virus is called "The Hunger". They're still pretty much themselves, but the Hunger takes over all of their natural instincts. Once they feed, they're back to being themselves for a little bit. Which is a cool take on what is otherwise a boring, generic movie monster.

This episode gived a great development to MCU Spider-Man: Uncle Ben was first mentioned, we learn how Peter deals with all his loses and we learn a little more of how important is aunt May in Peter's life.
