This is such a well constructed song... the verse is in a minor key while the lyrics are sad, then it switches to a major key in the chorus as the lyrics become more hopeful. And where some songs struggle to find 1 hook, this song has 3 hooks. Definitely one of my favorite of their songs.

Later in their careers, ABBA made a push to get more respect for their songwriting. Many thought them just pop, or worse teeny-bop. But they were serious musicians that knew how to construct a song. Their music is timeless.

So many awesome songs by them! Both the women have fantastic voices, and blended together they are otherwordly. But I personally like Frida's voice solo more, Bit deeper, which I like. A great song that highlights her (like Chiquitita highlighted Agnetha) would be Knowing me, knowing you. Recommendation for other ABBA reactions would be Take a Chance on Me or Tiger,. If you want to explore more diversity from ABBA, try a couple of songs where the guys take the lead or co-lead vocals. Dance (while the music still goes on) or does your mother know would be two of those. If you do Does your mother know, I suggest you do the version that is live (from ABBA in concert.)

@@kennyhuskisson2684 So do I - I was 11 when "Take a Chance On Me" came out. It was one of the first singles I bought and another being "Video Killed the Video Star" by The Buggles. Both singles blew my young mind. Just growing up with this level of musical talent was a privilege and then (obviously) 80's synth-pop and metal bands in the UK. I love rock and metal bands but still love ABBA even now. The wall of sound they produce in the chorus of "S.O.S." is just unbelievable - such a well constructed and well produced song. The one we sang along to as kids was (of course) "When I kissed the teacher" ... erm ... maybe one you shouldn't play now 🤣🤣🤣

ABBA were NEVER FOR EVEN A MOMENT "...the largest Corporation in Sweden..." - what a silly, ignorant notion - because ABBA, to begin with, was not a corporation like VOLVO and SAAB, etc. Both of which employing thousands upon thousands, for starters, a workforce that absurdly dwarfs whatever was the actual number of people on ABBA's payroll at any point in the pop group's existence.

@@starvictory7079 So phonetically, the G and the N are reversed from the way its spelled? Interesting. I would have thought the G was just silent. Thanks for clarifying.

ABBA is a super great band!👍 My mother introduced them to me in the 80s. I love their songs, Ring Ring, SOS, Honey Honey, Dancing Queen, Fernando, I Do I Do I Do I Do, Another Town Another Train, Mama Mia, and there are a couple of others, but I can't remember them at this time! Thank you for your reaction!🔥🤙

How is it 'Dancing Queen' is not on your checklist yet? Or 'The Name of the Game' or 'Fernando' or 'Knowing Me, Knowing You' or ... we could go on. They have a lot of awesome tunes for sure. Great comments as usual. Cheers.

Benny Andersson is a genius - Abba's chord progressions are wonderful. Such quality music that I only came to appreciate in my latter years. It wasn't cool to be an Abba fans as a teenage boy in 1970s Australia!

I was around 18 or 19 when Abba swept through like a disease and took hold of the music world. They were massive for a while. This reminds me of what was going on in my life at the time and it gives me strong, strong memories. Especially when I hear Waterloo.

You’d be the first as no other reactors on KZbin have reacted to these two songs by ABBA - so please could you do either ‘Lovers (Live A Little Longer)’ or ‘If It Wasn’t For The Nights’ If you could, that literally would be amazing as these two songs are incredibly underrated and hardly ever played - Plus, I can guarantee no one in the comments is going to request either of these two songs because like I say, they are so underrated! ❤

One of my favourite ABBA songs all-time. I respect their professionalism. Always great in spite of their personal drama like Fleetwood Mac.I always heard the theatrical sound of their music. Which would happen on films and on broadway by Bjorn in "CHESS." Suggestions would be ABBA related. Murray Head's "One Night In Bangkok" and "There's Something Going On" by Frida of ABBA produced by and featuring Phil Collins on drums.

I suggested the Frida song to them earlier this week. I think they'll be surprised because it sounds nothing like ABBA, and more like Phil Collins.

Kristina, too, later on, though that show never got off the ground outside Sweden. And, of course, Mamma Mia. One of my favourite ABBA songs isn't quite: Story Of A Heart, from the Benny Andersson Orchestra album of the sane name. Bought the CD just because it was Benny from ABBA and I knew what a marvelous composer he is. Listened to it and heard the title track, which is pure circa 1980 ABBA, just with a different lead singer...

"Dancing Queen" "Fernando" and "Waterloo" should be your next ABBA reaction. BTW "SOS" by ABBA is the only song in US chart history where both artist and song title are palindromes meaning spelled the same frontwards and backwards.

Going to get a vote in here for Summer Night City or Eagle as your next ABBA song: both excellent. The blonde singer's name isn't 'Agatha' by the way, it's 'Agnetha' pronouced Ag-Knee-Tha (although I've also heard it pronounced Ag-Nyee-Ta as well). The other members were Ani-Frid (aka Frida), Bjorn and Benny (the guy with the beard).
