Be sure to check out Ray Stevens' 1969 album "Gitarzan." It's brilliant! When you listen to the track "Freddie Feelgood and His Funky Little Five-Piece Band," keep in mind that Ray Stevens is vocalizing ALL the instruments except the piano. That's his OWN voice making the sounds of the drums, trumpet, trombone and stand-up bass.

Several others here have recommended "Everything is Beautiful." I agree. Ray Stevens's Grammy Award-winning song (1971) is worth checking out. It's a complete departure from his comedy, and it has a wonderful message. Watch the 1970 version. Ray looks so young.

Ray Stevens and Donna Fargo was my first actual concert, I went with my mama and daddy, I was probably around 6 or 7. They were playing at our state fair, I've been a fan ever since. If you can get to Nashville before the year is out, you need to go see Ray Stevens live at his CabaRay Nashville. The show was amazing! He won't be doing regularly scheduled shows in 2025. Ray also had a show you can find on KZbin. Really a lot of people do not realize how important Ray has been in the background musically. He's spoken about being called as a session musician for Elvis and a lot of other artists. He's done many patriotic songs, gospel, and the standards. Ray even has a Frank Sinatra cover album. Really, ya'll need to do a Ray Stevens deep dive and explore the variety of what he's done.

My dad was a Ray Stevens fan. Ray did his own commercials to promote the VHS for these comedy songs. I believe it was 1980's (maybe early 90's). My dad ordered the VHS from the commercial. He really enjoyed it! As others have mentioned. Ray was an extremely talented (serious) singer as well.

This video of his...which I had on a VHS tape back in the 90s growing up, led to a long running joke between me and my grandmother when I'd have to call her multiple times when I went grocery shopping for her later in life after cellphones became much more common and I was old enough to drive. If I had to call her a 3rd time and after to get her to clarify a brand or something (she was born in 1941 and was pretty particular about her brands) I'd say "It's me again Margaret" and she'd say "Hello again Ethel" who is the main female character in Ray Steven's "The Streak" song. We did that for YEARS cause we both loved Ray Stevens' music and comedy. Everybody else found it funny she would do that as well since I'm a guy but they didn't really know the joke outside the family lol.
