I got hooked on Kpop in 2008. Bi Rain started it for me. I was about 58 at the time. I am 72 now. I do not listen to Kpop as much because I do not like the “chorus” style that has been predominant in 3rd and 4th generation groups. Anyway, there wasn’t any English subtitling until fairly recently. It didn’t matter to me that I didn’t, and don’t, understand the language. Boomers tended to hear a fair amount of foreign language music in movies and some on the radio. From “La Bomba” to “Volare”. Maurice Chevalier singing in French or English. Italian songs fairly often. There was a Japanese song that charted high and a singing nun from Europe. A lot of newer immigrants from all over Europe because of two world wars. Ed Sullivan had a lot of foreign entertainers on his show. Granny most likely sang along to La Bomba and Volare when she was young. Volare wasn’t on pop music radio. But it was in movies and sung on tv shows. I think Dean Martin sang it occasionally. I am pretty sure it was in “Moonstruck” starring Cher. Fun movie.
